Charles Leon Epperson, age 90, a longtime Lemoyne resident, passed away on March 18, 2024, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Charles was born on May 6, 1933, in Pilot Point, Texas. His parents, Roy and Leva Epperson, raised him in the small farming community of Windom, TX, where he graduated high school.

Charlie worked for the American division of Dow Chemical in the oil industry, starting at the bottom washing trucks at the age of 16 and ultimately retiring as a regional executive.

Charlie married Mozelle (Moore) in Snyder, TX in 1951. This union was blessed with two children, Lydia and Doug. The family moved to El Tigre, Venezuela in 1956 due to Charlie's career, and then to Vernal, UT where they made their home. Charlie and Mozelle divorced in 1967.

In 1970, Charlie met Winifred Schooley, while both were involved in stock car racing. They married on August 8, 1970. This union was blessed with two children, Leslie and Russ. The family made Denver, CO their home until Charlie's retirement. In 1984, the family moved to Lewellen, NE and in 1990, Charlie and Winnie bought the Lewellen Lumber company. They successfully ran the business until age and failing health forced them to retire in 2016.

Charlie was a master at many things. He had a life-long passion for gardening. He spent his life as an outdoorsman - hunting, fishing, hiking, white water rafting, and arrowhead hunting. He played semi-pro baseball as a young man. He was an avid golfer. Charlie and Winnie were classic car collectors and enjoyed touring car shows. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Winnie, in 2017.

Survivors include four children, Lydia (David) Gardner of Washington, Doug (Carrie) Epperson of Grand Junction, CO, Leslie (Dennis) Miyamoto of McCook, and Russ Epperson of Lemoyne; grandchildren, Shoen, Brian, Jaron, Devin and Wyatt Gardner, Amy and Quinn Hammond, Michael Epperson, Christian and Chase Miyamoto; along with many great-grandchildren and friends.

A note to my mom... It is still so unbelievable to me that I am struggling for words to do your life justice such a short time after losing Dad. I am so shocked that I can't just pick up the phone to ask you what you'd like me to say. But I do know this...life will never be the same without you. We had such a tendency to butt heads and drive each other to near insanity, but I always knew that you were my biggest cheerleader. You gave me my love of nature, animals and children. You taught me to work hard for whatever I wanted and above all you taught me never to give up. I will miss you. I will miss your crooked smile, the bratty way you shrugged your shoulders when you didn't like what I had to say, and I will miss your amazing sense of humor. Most of all, I'll just miss knowing that you're there. The kids and I will make sure Chloe and the cats are loved and fed. Hug Dad and Tony for me please...I love you, Go rest now.

Cheryl (Cheri) L Newkirk, age 79 of Hershey, passed away in her home April 4th, 2024.&nbsp; Cheri was born in Imperial, Nebraska September 14th, 1944 to Charles and Eula Briggs and was raised near Lamar and Grant alongside her siblings, Billie and Dan.

Not long after graduating from high school, Cheri met Jerry and they were wed just 10 days later. That union lasted more than 61 years. They settled into the Newkirk ranch where they worked alongside Jerry's parents and raised their two children Tony and Cyndi. Jerry and Cheri moved around a few times trying to make a better life for their family, but eventually ended back in Lewellen until their children graduated.&nbsp; In 1985 they moved to Imperial to farm and during their time there, Cheri learned to become an amazing florist. She also worked at the county courthouse for quite some time. In their retirement years, Jerry and Cheri moved to their home by Hershey to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. In those last years Cheri could most likely be found playing in her garden, caring for Jerry or bathing dogs at her daughter's grooming shop. She absolutely loved spoiling the dogs.

Cheri is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Eula; brother Dan; husband Jerry; son Tony; grandchildren Corey and Casey; great grandson Esiah.

Cheri is survived by her sister Billie; daughter Cyndi; grandchildren Jazmin, Jon, Jackson, Joey, Amelia and Seaira; great grandchildren Ethan, Emelio, Javier, Ki'auna, Dominik, Aiyana and Skylynn; along with many other family members and friends. Cheri will be missed.&nbsp;

Cheryl Lee Newkirk (1944-2024)

Lucille, age 99, passed away on April 4th, 2024, at Westview Healthcare Center in Sheridan, Wyoming, surrounded by her family.

Lucille was born August 27, 1924, in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Aloysius &amp; Elizabeth Gunther. She came from a family of&nbsp;11&nbsp;brothers&nbsp;&amp; 1 sister.

When she was 24, Lucille met Jess Swick Jr at a country dance, and he became the love of her life. They were married on May 27, 1948, at the St Joseph Catholic Church. Then they moved to a small farm near Gates, Nebraska.&nbsp;

They went on to have 8 children, James (Wanda), Thomas (Brenda), Charles (Debra), Anna (William), Sharon (Phil), Jess, William, and Chancy (Teresa); 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren and their extended families. &nbsp;

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers &amp; sisters. She is survived by all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many extended families.

Lucille enjoyed reading,&nbsp;embroidery, &amp;&nbsp;cross-stitching&nbsp;gifts for her family &amp; friends.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on April 12, 2024, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow, Nebraska with Father Jim Hunt officiating. &nbsp;The burial will be in the Gates Cemetery. &nbsp;Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements. Lucille Anna (Gunther) Swick (1924-2024)

Ralph E. Anderson, 87, of North Platte, passed away April 5, 2024 at Great Plains Health. &nbsp;He was born April 1, 1937 to Harry and Geneva (Larue) Anderson in his paternal grandparent’s home in Gothenburg.

Ralph attended rural schools, mainly in the Hayes Center area and then graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1954. &nbsp;He married Mary Jane Wendeborn on June 18, 1961 in North Platte. &nbsp;He worked at various ranches in Nebraska and Colorado until 1966. &nbsp;Ralph then went to work for State Department of Roads while Interstate 80 was being built. &nbsp;Following the completion of the interstate, he worked for Nebraska Public Power District for seven years. Ralph and Mary Jane moved to Phoenix and later to Congress, Arizona where he was employed by Speedie Corporation from 1981-2003 at which time he retired. &nbsp;The couple moved back to North Platte in October 2013 because of Mary Jane’s health.

Edna Merrell peacefully passed away at the North Platte Care Center on April 6, 2024.

Edna, the daughter of Allen and Dorothy Francis, was born November 24, 1937, at Big Springs, NE, where she grew up and attended school. &nbsp;Edna then began waitressing in Big Springs and Ogallala.

On June 6, 1961, Edna married Robert "Bob" Merrell in Julesburg, CO. &nbsp;They spent the first year living in Big Springs then moved to Colorado, living in Sterling and other places until settling in Nunn. &nbsp;They owned a shoe shop in the town of Eaton and Edna worked at the A&amp;W there so they made many trips between Nunn and Eaton. &nbsp;After Bob died, Edna moved to North Platte to be closer to her family.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Neva Francis; daughter, Rotelle Merrell; and great-granddaughter, Misty.

Survivors include her children, Robert Merrell of North Platte, Charles Merrell (Esther) of Papillion, Roberta Murphy (Robert) of Cozad and Robecca Wolever of Greeley, CO; her sister, Mary Bowker (Richard) of North Platte; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and other family.

Edna Merrell (1937-2024)

Dorothy&nbsp;Smith of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away December 26, 2023, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook at the age of 96.

Dorothy was born April 4, 1927, to Edward and Josephine Hopkins in Chadron where she grew up. &nbsp;After graduating from Chadron High School, Dorothy held several different jobs, her favorite was as a bookkeeper at a Chadron Car Dealership.&nbsp; On August 17, 1947, Dorothy married Gene Smith in Chadron. &nbsp;They made their home on a farm in the Deadhorse Community where they raised their five children: Alan, Carol, David, Ruth and Daniel. &nbsp;In 1970 the family left the farm and moved to Bridgeport, then to North Platte six years later with Gene's job. &nbsp;Dorothy worked at Herberger's Department Store until retiring.&nbsp;

Dorothy was a member of Diamond K Kiwanis Club, the Extension Club, and was a faithful member of the Water Lilies swimming group at the North Platte Rec Center for many years. She also spent many hours volunteering at the Lincoln County Historical Museum.&nbsp;

Dorothy loved family get-togethers and playing games with family and friends. She could always find the good in anyone, and something positive in every situation.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; and her parents, Edward and Josephine Hopkins.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Alan (Joan) Smith of Kingwood, TX, Carol (Jerry) Young of Columbia, MO, David (Jan) Smith of McCook, Ruth (Kevin) Uhrich of North Platte and Daniel (Mary Ann) Smith of Fulshear, TX; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at 11 a.m. (CT) on Friday, April 26, at Odean Colonial Chapel with Pastor Michael Evans officiating.&nbsp; A private family inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Chadron.&nbsp; Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Lincoln County Historical Museum.  </figure>Dorothy&nbsp;Smith of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away December 26, 2023, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook at the age of 96.Dorothy was born April 4, 1927, to Edward and Josephine Hopkins in Chadron where she grew up. &nbsp;After graduating from Chadron High School, Dorothy held several different jobs, her favorite was as a bookkeeper at a Chadron Car Dealership.&nbsp; On August 17, 1947, Dorothy married Gene Smith in Chadron. &nbsp;They made their home on a farm in the Deadhorse Community where they raised their five children: Alan, Carol, David, Ruth and Daniel. &nbsp;In 1970 the family left the farm and moved to Bridgeport, then to North Platte six years later with Gene's job. &nbsp;Dorothy worked at Herberger's Department Store until retiring.&nbsp;Dorothy was a member of Diamond K Kiwanis Club, the Extension Club, and was a faithful member of the Water Lilies swimming group at the North Platte Rec Center for many years. She also spent many hours volunteering at the Lincoln County Historical Museum.&nbsp;Dorothy loved family get-togethers and playing games with family and friends. She could always find the good in anyone, and something positive in every situation.She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; and her parents, Edward and Josephine Hopkins.Dorothy is survived by her children, Alan (Joan) Smith of Kingwood, TX, Carol (Jerry) Young of Columbia, MO, David (Jan) Smith of McCook, Ruth (Kevin) Uhrich of North Platte and Daniel (Mary Ann) Smith of Fulshear, TX; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at 11 a.m. (CT) on Friday, April 26, at Odean Colonial Chapel with Pastor Michael Evans officiating.&nbsp; A private family inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Chadron.&nbsp; Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Lincoln County Historical Museum. Jo Murner, age 93 of Indianola, passed away at the Community Hospital of McCook on April 2, 2024. She was bon in Mott, North Dakota on September 14, 1930, to Gale and Cora (Oliene) Rounds. &nbsp;She and the family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where Jo graduated from Rapid City High School.

On March 18, 1948, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Murner in Rapid City. &nbsp;To this union four children were born: William, David, Lorri, and Kimmie. Bill preceded her in death on March 18, 2016.

&nbsp;Jo and William owned a GM dealership in Custer, where Jo helped by keeping the books. &nbsp;The couple traveled to Hawaii and all over the United States. &nbsp;They would winter in either TX or AZ. &nbsp;In February of 2018, Jo moved to Indianola to be close to family. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Jo was an avid bird watcher and loved feeding them. &nbsp;She enjoyed the Casino’s, crocheting, making quilts and Christmas Stockings. In her younger years she and Bill would go to square dances. She loved being around family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents Gale and Cora; and a brother, Gerald Rounds.

Jo is survived by her two sons, William and wife Patricia of Custer, SD, David, and wife Colette &nbsp;of Rapid City, two daughters, Lorri and husband Ernie Schleuning of Rapid City, SD, Kimmie and husband Brent May of Indianola, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.

Mary Lou Crews, age 84 of Brule died Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Edgewood Memory Care Facility in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Mary Lou married Paul D. Crews on June 14, 1959, at the First Congregational Church in Brule, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Ogallala and had such a great love for Lake McConaughy that they built a log home on the lake.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Crews; a daughter-in-law Melodee Thompson Crews; a brother Jimmy Comer and, a sister Maxine Kipp.

Mary Lou is survived by her son Craig (Wendy) Crews of Summerset, South Dakota; her daughter Julie (Kim) Hothan of Ogallala, Nebraska; brother Kenny (Fran) Comer of Brule, Nebraska; sister Lois Schuett of Kearney, Nebraska and sister-in-law Rosie Comer; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M.

Mary Lou Crews (1940-2024)

Beth died peacefully at Great Plains Hospital in North Platte, NE, April 3rd, with family by her side. &nbsp;She was born on April 6, 1977 in Skagway, Alaska to Del and Kay Almond. &nbsp;She completed their family joining sisters Kelly and Jennifer.

The family soon moved to Alliance, Nebraska and into a neighborhood filled with friends and family including her cousins, Travis, Trevor, and Todd.

She attended St. Agnes Academy, graduating from Alliance High School with the Class of 1995. She furthered her education by attending LPN school receiving her diploma alongside her childhood friend Hilary (Bauer) Gomez.

Beth was united in marriage to Chris Cook in July of 2001, and to this union Hunter Thomas and Kennedi Kay were added making their family complete.

Her desire to continue in her nursing profession led her to receive her R.N. and BSN. &nbsp;She worked in the North Platte area most of her career. She always had a love for the elderly and disabled. &nbsp;This led her to a new career role at the North Platte Opportunity Center while still carrying on her duties in the nursing field at Lighthouse LLC.

Her greatest joy without a doubt were her children, Hunter and Kennedi. &nbsp;She was their biggest cheerleader and advocate in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Delton.

Beth leaves her children, Hunter Thomas, Fremont, NE, Kennedi Kay, North Platte, NE; mother, Kay Almond, Alliance, NE; sisters, Kelly (Sean)Lowry, Omaha, NE,&nbsp; Jennifer (Ryan)Gasseling, Hemingford,NE; nephew, Karston Lowry, Omaha, NE; nieces, Natalie(Jon)Gasseling, Big Springs, NE, Lauren(Brandon) Gasseling, Bridgeport, NE; numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins. &nbsp;Also left behind to mourn her passing is Copper, her faithful dog.

Elizabeth "Beth" Almond Cook (1977-2024)

Michael Julius Soper passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the age of 68 at Sedgewick County Health Center in Julesburg, CO.

Michael was born August 2, 1955, in Ogallala, NE, to Max and Phyllis Soper.&nbsp; He attended school in Big Springs, NE.&nbsp; Living in the Big Springs community his entire life, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Jimenez, where they pursued their love for farming and ranching while raising their 3 daughters.&nbsp; Michael was not only Judy’s husband, business partner but also her best friend.&nbsp; While on the farm, the girls worked alongside Michael and Judy as a family.&nbsp; During his farming, Michael won the High 10 Sugar Beet award.&nbsp; He served on the Big Springs CO-OP elevator board and 4-H livestock board.&nbsp; Michael’s fondest memories were the years that he spent with his daughters on their market steers.&nbsp; Michael found so much joy in following his children and then his grandchildren to their sporting events, school activities, and the Deuel County Fair.&nbsp; After years of farming and ranching, his health began to deteriorate but he still tried to help where he could.&nbsp; Farming was Michael’s life, and he took much pride in raising his crops.&nbsp; His friends and family will miss his rough exterior but heart of gold, his orneriness, and his ability to always tell a story.

Michael is survived by his wife, Judy and three daughters, Jessica (Chet) Brooks - Alliance, NE, Jennifer (Zach Ziegler) Evans - Big Springs, NE and Joy (Michael) Cearns - Big Springs.&nbsp; He is survived by his father, Floyd “Max” Soper - Big Springs and 4 sisters, Mary Rochlitz - Big Springs, Melodie (Ken) Woodworth - Big Springs, Michelle (Mark) Armstrong - Big Springs and Mona (Christopher) Garcia - Cheyenne along with numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He has 4 granddaughters, Aubrey DeNae, Makala Gene, McKinley Saige, and Trinity Jo and 5 grandsons Cooper Jacob, Conner James, Hudson Duane, Ryker Ray, and Max Michael.

Michael is preceded in death by his infant son, Michael Julius Soper, II; his mother, Phyllis Soper, and his grandmother, Margaret Soper.

Merl “Buzz” Kettleborough age 89, formerly of Sargent, died April 1, 2024, at the Emerald Lake Care Home in Grand Island.

Merl “Buzz” Dean Kettleborough was born on October 29, 1934, at home in Comstock, NE to John and Verna (Newcomb) Kettleborough. He grew up in Custer County, NE. Buzz lived southwest of Anselmo where he farmed for many years. After selling the farm he met Alta Wilson, they married, and then the couple moved to Sargent. They bought and ran a carnival for many years. Later, they sold the carnival, and the couple moved to Taylor. Buzz took up trucking to support his family. Buzz and Alta ran the Bar/Café in Sargent and Taylor for many years. Alta passed away on July 4, 2005. Buzz continued to drive truck until 2017, when he finally retired and moved to Sargent. Buzz said, “I’ve backed more miles than most guys have drove.” He also liked to say that he had driven coast to coast and border to border. Due to failing health, Buzz became a resident at the Emerald Lakeview Care Home in Grand Island in 2022.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Buzz is survived by his children; Danny Kettleborough, Debbie (Rich) York, LeAnn (Scott) Weaver, Tim (Julie) Kettleborough, John (Brenda) Kettleborough, and Casey Kettleborough, stepchildren; Daisy Jackson and Robbie (Cindy) Wilson, and numerous grand and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alta, a stepdaughter Laurie Rudnick, a stepson Randy Wilson, and brothers Glen and Gary.

Ann worked as the manager of Stockman’s Café in Broken Bow and later as a waitress at the Tumbleweed Café in Broken Bow. &nbsp;She spent over 40 years serving the customers of Broken Bow. &nbsp;Ann was also well-known in the community for her 52 years of selling Avon. &nbsp;Ann enjoyed bowling with the local women’s bowling leagues. &nbsp;Ann was a member of the Broken Bow Doe’s and Rebekah’s.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband “Red”, and a daughter Kennetha.

Ann is survived by daughter Kenda (Mike) Ekdahl of North Platte, son Troy (Betsy) Nelson of Falls City, grandchildren Mick Ekdahl, Luke Ekdahl, Mackensie Nelson, Riley Nelson, and Connor Nelson, and unofficial adopted daughter Carmen (Anson) Bumgarner.

Justin Sprague, age 43 of Thedford, NE passed away March 30, 2024, due to injuries from an auto accident.

Justin Jesse Sprague was born on April 9th, 1980, in Alma, Nebraska to Dale and Jane Sprague. &nbsp; Justin was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and remained a devout member throughout his life. He spent his younger years riding and driving horses with the family and was active in junior rodeos and 4H. &nbsp;Justin attended Wilcox Public Schools and graduated in 1999. &nbsp;He high school rodeoed in Nebraska, riding bareback, saddle broncs, and bulls.

Justin went on to attend Colby Community College where he rodeoed as well. After college, he continued to ride bareback and was a qualifier for the Mid-States Rodeo Association and Nebraska State Rodeo Association year-end finals several times.

Justin had another passion he picked up along the way, bullfighting. He was voted Bull Fighter of The Year in the Mid-States Rodeo Association 3 times. Whether it was while he was competing, or fighting bulls, Justin met an innumerable amount of friends along the rodeo trail and loved to share stories and memories from those travels.

Justin worked on multiple ranches over the years, where he met lifelong friends and became part of communities that were always close to his heart. Most recently he enjoyed his work at the Upper Loup Natural Resources Department in Thedford, NE.

One of the proudest moments for Justin was when Emmett Dale was born on April 4th, 2011.

Justin never knew a stranger and was happy to visit for hours with anyone he happened to cross paths with. &nbsp;He loved catching up with an old friend or anyone he had met throughout the years. &nbsp; Justin had the biggest heart and would go out of his way to help someone out.

Justin’s special friend, Amy, and her daughter, Braylee, were also a special light in his life.

Justin was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Warren &amp; Jayne Sprague, maternal grandparents Jim &amp; Katherine Eliker, and a stepson, Taylor Rowan.

Justin is survived by his son Emmett Sprague, parents Dale &amp; Jane Sprague of Huntley, NE, sister Jill (Kelie) Bates of Kearney, brother James (Megan) Sprague of Tryon, nieces, and nephews Bailey Bates (fiancé Coby Cassidy), Gabriel Bates, Ryder Sprague, &amp; Piper Sprague, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Douglas William Moog, 65, of North Platte lost his battle with cancer on April 2, 2024. &nbsp;He forged his fight with grace and courage.

Doug was born January 22, 1959, in Madison, South Dakota to Delbert &amp; Nola (Bachkora) Moog. &nbsp;The family moved to Clark, South Dakota where Doug attended public school. &nbsp;Ther family moved again when Doug was 11 years old to North Platte, Nebraska. &nbsp;While in high school, Doug enlisted in the Army delayed entry program. &nbsp;He graduated from North Platte High School and within an hour of receiving his diploma, he was on an airplane and heading to Fort Dix, New Jersey. &nbsp;After his basic training he was stationed in Fort Ord, California. &nbsp;It was there that he met Danette, the love of his life. &nbsp;Doug &amp; Danette were married on May 8th, 1982, and have been married for 41 years. &nbsp;To this union two sons were born: Robert William 1983 &amp; Nathan Douglas 1986. &nbsp;Doug left the military after 14 years, completing tours of duty in Korea &amp; Germany. &nbsp;

When returning to North Platte, he was employed at Sixth Street Foods &amp; shortly thereafter began his career at the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired from the railroad on August 1, 2023, after completing 30 years of service as a machinist. &nbsp;Doug was considered as “one in a million” because of his sense of humor and dedication to helping family, friends and anyone he met. &nbsp;Doug believed that everyone should have the enjoyment of riding a motorcycle to experience what he called “wind therapy.” &nbsp;He found contentment in traveling on his motorcycle with his wife and friends Mike &amp; Sheila Sneed through various trips they went on. &nbsp;Doug was a mechanic at heart &amp; was desirous to investigate &amp; fix vehicle repairs whenever the opportunity arose.

Douglas William Moog (1959-2024)

&nbsp;&nbsp; Delbert Henry Maris was born on a farm north of Stratton, NE on August 23rd, 1931. His parents were Floyd &amp; Mildred Bahlke Maris. He graduated from Stratton High School in 1949/1950. He played all sports in high school. After he graduated, he worked in construction and helped build the Trenton Dam.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; He had one brother, Ervin, and two sisters, Elaine &amp; Jean.

&nbsp; &nbsp; He entered the Army in August 1952 and received his training at Fort Ord, California in the infantry division and served overseas in Korea. &nbsp;He received his honorable discharge in June 1954.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; He met Roberta the day after he got home from being discharged from the Army. They were married a year later in Maywood, Nebraska at the Methodist Church. They had four children: Darlene, Gary, Gerald and Ron.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Delbert is preceded in death by his daughter, Darlene Geihsler in 2004; grandson, Craig Geihsler in 2015; brother, Ervin Maris; sisters; Elaine Bley and Jean Wach; brothers-in-law, Ron Wach and Ervin Bley; sister-in-law, Sandra Maris.&nbsp;

Delbert Henry Maris (1931-2024)

Funeral services for Frank E. Harding, age 102, of Mullen, Nebraska, will be held on June 14, 2024, at 10:30 AM Mountain Time at the Lariat Auditorium, with burial at Cedarview Cemetery and a lunch following at the Lariat. Fr. Frank passed away on March 26, 2024, at Great Plains Hospital in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Frank was born February 15, 1922, in Mullen, Nebraska, to Lester L. and Pearl Crain Harding on their ranch southwest of Mullen. He attended District #4 Hooker County School southwest of Mullen for 8 years. He was active in one of the first 4H clubs in Hooker County. He attended Hooker County High School in Mullen and was chosen to attend the first Boys State Program in 1938. Frank graduated from Hooker County High School in 1939.

After high school, Frank worked on the Harding ranch until the beginning of WWII. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with the Navy’s 7th Fleet in the South Pacific. He earned a bronze star in the Battles of the Bismarck Sea, a bronze battle star in the New Guinea Campaign, a bronze star during the initial invasion of the Philippines on Oct. 20, 1944, and a bronze battle star during the Naval battle near Leyte Harbor when the Japanese Fleet was finally defeated.

Frank was discharged from the U.S. Navy on Dec. 22, 1945, but remained in the Naval Reserve for 4 more years. After the war, Frank bought some land and formed a partnership, the Harding Cattle Company, with his brother Forrest and father Lester Harding.&nbsp;

On March 17, 1956, Frank married Iva Tucker Malony. They had two daughters, Patricia Ann and Karen Marie. In 1960, they purchased the Garrett place west of Mullen. Frank was a charter member of the Hooker County Agricultural Society and served on the Mullen Public School Board from 1962-1968 at the time the new high school was built. He helped organize the Mullen Fire District and served as its first treasurer. He served as Hooker County Commissioner for over 30 years. Frank assisted in nearly every County Government Day since 1955. He became a member of the St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in 1962 and was very active in the church. He joined the American Legion Marcy Upton Post #109 in 1946 and served in most offices through the years. At the time of his death, he was the Post Chaplain. He was a member of the firing squad for military funerals and Memorial Day.

His wife Iva passed away on June 16, 1975. He married Beth Simonson Anders on Feb. 24, 1979. They lived on his ranch west of Mullen until they retired in 1984 and moved into Beth’s house in Mullen.

Frank and Beth were active in community affairs. They were on the Cedarview Cemetery board for several years and were the co-chairmen of the Hooker County Centennial Celebration in 1989. They helped restore the old Commercial Hotel and establish the Hooker County Historical Society’s Old Hotel Museum. He wrote several “History Moment” articles for the Hooker County Tribune.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Iva and Beth, stepdaughter Sandra Norton, brother Forrest and sister-in-law Jean Harding.

He is survived by daughters Patricia (Steve) Gannon and Karen (Harold) Juzenas, stepdaughter Cheryl (Jim) O/Brien, stepsons Richard (Nancy) Anders, Charles (Karen) Anders, and Gary (Becky) Anders, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He loved them all.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be given to either St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church or the Hooker County Historical Society.

He earned a bronze star in the Battles of the Bismarck Sea, a bronze battle star in the New Guinea Campaign, a bronze star during the initial invasion of the Philippines on Oct. 20, 1944, and a bronze battle star during the Naval battle near Leyte Harbor when the Japanese Fleet was finally defeated.Frank was discharged from the U.S. Navy on Dec. 22, 1945, but remained in the Naval Reserve for 4 more years. After the war, Frank bought some land and formed a partnership, the Harding Cattle Company, with his brother Forrest and father Lester Harding.&nbsp;On March 17, 1956, Frank married Iva Tucker Malony. They had two daughters, Patricia Ann and Karen Marie. In 1960, they purchased the Garrett place west of Mullen. Frank was a charter member of the Hooker County Agricultural Society and served on the Mullen Public School Board from 1962-1968 at the time the new high school was built. He helped organize the Mullen Fire District and served as its first treasurer. He served as Hooker County Commissioner for over 30 years. Frank assisted in nearly every County Government Day since 1955. He became a member of the St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in 1962 and was very active in the church. He joined the American Legion Marcy Upton Post #109 in 1946 and served in most offices through the years. At the time of his death, he was the Post Chaplain. He was a member of the firing squad for military funerals and Memorial Day.His wife Iva passed away on June 16, 1975. He married Beth Simonson Anders on Feb. 24, 1979. They lived on his ranch west of Mullen until they retired in 1984 and moved into Beth’s house in Mullen.Frank and Beth were active in community affairs. They were on the Cedarview Cemetery board for several years and were the co-chairmen of the Hooker County Centennial Celebration in 1989. They helped restore the old Commercial Hotel and establish the Hooker County Historical Society’s Old Hotel Museum. He wrote several “History Moment” articles for the Hooker County Tribune.Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Iva and Beth, stepdaughter Sandra Norton, brother Forrest and sister-in-law Jean Harding.He is survived by daughters Patricia (Steve) Gannon and Karen (Harold) Juzenas, stepdaughter Cheryl (Jim) O/Brien, stepsons Richard (Nancy) Anders, Charles (Karen) Anders, and Gary (Becky) Anders, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Frank E. Harding (1922-2024) 

In the early, quiet hours of March 28, 2024, Jimmie D. Baney of Benkelman, Nebraska, a man of faith, steadfast character and unwavering dedication passed away with his wife, Mary, of 68 years by his side. Jim, as he was affectionately known to many, a loving husband, Dad and Grandpa, was a pillar of his community, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Born on the Baney homestead in rural Dundy County on May 28th, 1934, Jim's roots ran deep within the soil of his family farm. For over 50 years, he toiled on the land that shaped him, embodying the spirit of a true farmer and rancher. &nbsp;In 2018, Jimmie and Mary received the Aksarben Foundation Pioneer reward celebrating and honoring 100 continuous years of family-owned farm ground since 1918. His commitment and love for the land transcended time, as he continued to live his life on the family farm.

Jim's passion extended beyond the fields; he was a master craftsman with an unparalleled talent and keen eye for restoring antique cars, collectables and things of old. From his prized 1902 Holsman Horseless Carriage to his beloved 1929 Ford Model A with a rumble seat, Jim's expertise in reviving these treasures earned him numerous accolades at car shows and surrounding community fair parades. As the owner of the Wagon Wheel antique store in Benkelman, he curated a treasure trove of memories, history and stories waiting to be discovered. His hands were his tools, and his creations were testaments to his skill and dedication. Jim could fix anything and loved taking something from shambles and making it anew. He could make a doohickey for a thingamajig. He never could sit still and was always working on the next project. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Jim was blessed with the power of persuasion, loved to barter, attend auctions and "make a deal". &nbsp;He was well known to every auctioneer in the Tri State area and very seldom missed a farm sale.&nbsp;

A man of many talents, Jim found joy in various pursuits, an avid basketball and baseball player and a skilled bowler in his younger years. He loved sports and loved watching his children and grandchildren’s activities; he couldn’t help but be a bit of a bleacher coach. But, more important, he loved to spend time with an opportunity to teach, especially with his children and grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In matters of the heart, Jim found his lifelong companion in Mary Janicke. Their enduring love story began in Parks, Nebraska, where a chance encounter on the baseball field blossomed into a beautiful union on September 25th, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Bladen, NE. Together they raised a family enriched with love and laughter.&nbsp;

Jim’s personal relationship with the Lord was evident, especially with his family. His servant heart and devotion to helping others brought him joy and touched many lives. He served on the board committee of the Benkelman Friends Church where his family attended for years.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Baney, brothers and sisters-law Dale and Delores Baney, Evertt Baney and Billie Baney; sisters and brothers-in-law Velma and Max Cline, Elila and Jack Whiteside, Leta and Junior Andres and Bonnie and Delbert Nelsen. As well as, Milton and Fayetta Janicke (parents-in-law), Lyle Hansen, Wilfred Hansen, Ronald Janicke and Verlin Rose (brothers-in-law)&nbsp;

Jim is survived by the love of his life Mary; his children, James Douglas Baney (Lora), Mary Jane Shorman (Darcy), and Nancy Ruth Baney. His adoring grandchildren, Meghann Rachelle Pursley (Andrew), Aaron Douglas Baney (Kate), Joel William Shorman, Jessica Rosemary Shull, Nicholas Ivan Baney and Marina Grace Baney; two great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Faye and Isaiah Martin Pursley; his loving sisters, Ruby Stock, Helen Hansen, Barbara Lea Pursley (Neal) and sisters-in-law Donna Baney, Lois Janicke and Jane Barton (Evart); and numerous nieces, nephews and countless others who were touched by his kindness. &nbsp;

As we bid farewell to Jimmie Baney on this earthly journey, we celebrate in knowing that his spirit lives on through the enduring legacy he created. &nbsp;The best Grandpa, Papa and Poppo anyone could ask for; a devoted Husband, a wonderful Dad, a true collector and craftsman. A favorite scripture marked in Jim’s personal Bible is from (Acts 2:28) “… you have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.”&nbsp;Heaven welcomed home a remarkable man, a faithful servant, a caring farmer, a spirted rancher … and a true cowboy!&nbsp;

The visitation will be held on Friday, April 5th from 5:00-7:00 P.M (MT) at Benkelman Memorial Chapel followed by a Funeral Service on Saturday April 6th at 10:30 A.M (MT) at Benkelman Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Benkelman Cemetery in Benkelman NE.

Randall Jay Mayer, 66, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away March 28, 2024 at his home in North Platte. &nbsp;He was born February 2, 1958 to Clarence Dale and Beverly Ann (Sheets) Mayer in California. &nbsp;

He graduated from high school in El Camino, California in 1976. &nbsp;Randall worked for Hussman Electric in California, traveled across the country, eventually settling in Nebraska. &nbsp;He lived in Ogallala and moved to North Platte in 2015 where he worked as a handyman. &nbsp;Randall was a very talented woodworker and could build anything. &nbsp;He had a great love for fishing and was always accompanied by Cole.

Randall is survived by his sister, Pamela Ross-Hunziker, Sacramento, California; 2 nieces, Shantelle (Dan) Roth, Kristy (Hans) Roscher, Sacramento, California; 4 great nieces and nephews, Joseph Roth, Rhiannon Roth, Nathaniel Roscher, Mya Roscher, Sacramento, California; along with other family members and friends.

Cremation was chosen. &nbsp;Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ruth K. Foote, age 90, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Funeral services are 11:00 AM, on Friday, April 5, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend Steve Weispfennig officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. &nbsp; Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, on Thursday, April 4 at Wintz &amp; Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. &nbsp;Visitation continues one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Pallbearers are her grandsons: Kolby Foote, Donavan McConnell, Nathan Flanagan, Zachary Flanagan, Haiden Magnussen, and Charlie Foote. Honorary pallbearers are grandson, Dennis McConnell Jr. and her granddaughters: Kelsey Bryan, Brittan Flanagan, Katie Stacey, Hannah Magnussen, Chloe and Claire Foote.

Ruth was born April 21, 1933 in Okaton, South Dakota to Phillip and Alvena (Buxcel) Eckert. &nbsp;She was the 3rd of seven siblings born into this union. She grew up in Okaton where she attended country school. &nbsp;After school ended, Ruth stayed on the farm and babysat and kept house for other families in the area. &nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth then moved to Pierre, SD where she worked at Ben Franklin’s. &nbsp;She met Harold Foote on a blind date and 10 months later, they were married on October 21, 1962 in Midland, SD. &nbsp;After their marriage, they moved to Huron, SD where Harold received his teaching degree and they began their family. &nbsp;While Ruth was focused on being a mom, she also loved to cook and could most often be found in the school cafeteria serving lunch at wherever Harold's teaching opportunities took them. &nbsp;In addition to the school cafeteria, she also cooked in various other establishments. &nbsp;In 2000, Ruth fought a battle with breast cancer and was proud of being a survivor. &nbsp;In 2010, they moved to Yankton where she got to be a full-time grandma, which was by far her favorite thing to do. &nbsp;She passed her love of cooking on to her grandkids at every opportunity. &nbsp; There were always “grandma cookies” and pie in her freezer when you stopped by for a visit. Ruth also loved quilting and watching the birds in the backyard. &nbsp;She especially enjoyed working outside in her vegetable garden which often resulted in jars and jars of pickles that were always ready to be shared. &nbsp; In addition to the vegetables, there was never a shortage of flowers both inside and outside of her house. &nbsp;Later in life, Ruth developed a love of sports and could usually be found watching sports on TV. &nbsp;She was especially fond of cheering on the Yankton Bucks or Gazelles. &nbsp; She treasured the time spent with her family and will be greatly missed.&nbsp;

Ruth is survived by her five children: Kathy (Dennis) McConnell of North Platte, NE, Jeffrey (Deb) Foote of North Platte, Krista (Rod) Neugebauer of Ethan, SD, Jennifer (Scott) Magnussen of Pierce, NE and Jason (Jessie) Foote of Yankton; 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren: Ireland, Tucker, and Jack Bryan, Sutton Foote, and Saige Martinez-Magnussen; five sisters: Helen Oldenkamp of Omaha, NE, Freda Peters of Pierre, SD, Phyllis (Lloyd) Filler of Winner, SD, Lois Quatier of Yankton and Grace (Gary) Schmitgen of Pierre; one brother, Bill Eckert of Okaton, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Foote; grandson, Joseph Flanagan; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Oldenkamp, Olin Peters, and Roy Quatier; and sister-in-law, Donna Eckert.

Ruth Foote (1933-2024)

Kip A Svejkovsky, 59, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024 at his home.&nbsp;

Kip was born on November 5, 1964 in Butte, Montana, the son of Pat and Jan Fitzpatrick.&nbsp; He graduated from Butte High School and went on to get two degrees in business and computers from Montana Technical College.&nbsp; He was a diesel mechanic for various companies for several years, until he became disabled from complications from diabetes.&nbsp; He loved Minnesota Vikings football, eating out, watching westerns on TV, and listening to books on tape for the blind from the library.&nbsp; He also enjoyed woodworking and working on cars.&nbsp; Kip will be missed by all who knew and loved him.&nbsp;

He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Svejkovsky.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish his memory are his partner, Laurie Truax of North Platte; mother and dad, Jan and Pat “Fitz” Fitzpatrick of Butte, Montana; father, Kenneth Sam Svejkovsky of Grand Forks, N.D.; daughters, Amanda Svejkovsky (Robert) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Shaylene Grisewood (Nick) of Belmont, NY; several grandchildren; brother, Kerry Svejkovsky (Carrie) of Sutherland, NE; brother in law, Tag Ng of Canada; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.&nbsp;

Cremation has been chosen.&nbsp; Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.&nbsp;

Kip A Svejkovsky, 59, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024 at his home.&nbsp;Kip was born on November 5, 1964 in Butte, Montana, the son of Pat and Jan Fitzpatrick.&nbsp; He graduated from Butte High School and went on to get two degrees in business and computers from Montana Technical College.&nbsp; He was a diesel mechanic for various companies for several years, until he became disabled from complications from diabetes.&nbsp; He loved Minnesota Vikings football, eating out, watching westerns on TV, and listening to books on tape for the blind from the library.&nbsp; He also enjoyed woodworking and working on cars.&nbsp; Kip will be missed by all who knew and loved him.&nbsp;He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Svejkovsky.&nbsp;Those left to cherish his memory are his partner, Laurie Truax of North Platte; mother and dad, Jan and Pat “Fitz” Fitzpatrick of Butte, Montana; father, Kenneth Sam Svejkovsky of Grand Forks, N.D.; daughters, Amanda Svejkovsky (Robert) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Shaylene Grisewood (Nick) of Belmont, NY; several grandchildren; brother, Kerry Svejkovsky (Carrie) of Sutherland, NE; brother in law, Tag Ng of Canada; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.&nbsp;Cremation has been chosen.&nbsp; Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.&nbsp;In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for future designation.&nbsp; Online condolences and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at <a href="http://www.carpentermemorial.com/" target="_blank">www.carpentermemorial.com</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mary Aidyl Loop, 84, of Paxton, passed away on March 25, 2024, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

 </figure>Mary Aidyl Loop, 84, of Paxton, passed away on March 25, 2024, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.Mary Aidyl (Stohler) Loop was born March 8, 1940, at Imperial, Nebraska to George and Bessie (Tipton) Stohler of Grant. Mary Aidyl attended Rural School District 76 before graduating from Perkins County High School. She graduated from McCook Beauty Academy before starting Mary's Beauty Bar in Grant. She later moved her shop to Benkelman, where she joined the Catholic Church.On April 26, 1960, Mary Aidyl married Leo J. Loop at Benkelman. She moved back to Grant, where the shop was sold. They started their family, and their union would be blessed with eleven children: seven boys and four girls. Leo was a farmhand, and they lived in several states before settling in Paxton in August of 1981. Leo was killed in an auto accident on July 18, 1984. At that time, Mary moved seven children into Paxton, ages 18, 17, 15, 14, 7, and 2 six-year-olds. During this time of her life, Mary stopped using her middle name; only her 'old-time friends' know her as Mary Aidyl. She was contracted by Social Services a year later and went to work. The families she worked for started calling her 'Mother Mary,' and the nickname stuck with her ever since.Mary was an active member of the Catholic Church, caring for the flowers for the altar on Sundays and for Memorial Day at four different cemeteries. She enjoyed the yard and flower gardening until her health would no longer allow it. Mary's collections of Nativity sets were always enjoyed at Christmas. Her family speculated that she had over 125 sets. Mother Mary was also known for making rugs, a craft she learned from her mother-in-law, Mabel Loop. Mary started crafting the rugs from blue jeans, socks, and bread sacks, later developing a rug she made from grocery bags.Mother Mary is survived by her children, Earl (Beth) Loop of Imperial, Sarah Morse of Imperial, Lydia Lenhart of Roscoe, Paul (Katy) Loop of Fallon, NV, Frank (Kelly) Loop of Yuma, CO, Mary Mag Loop of North Platte, Veronica Loop of Paxton, Gabriel David Loop of El Cajon, CA, Gall "Gale" Edward (Angela) Loop of El Cajon, CA; fourteen grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George (Bessie) Stohler; her husband, Leo; and her sons, Andy and Patrick.Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology, 7335 S.
