John Douglas Kraus, 91, of Madrid, passed away on February 28, 2024, at the Imperial Manor in Imperial, NE.

Doug was born on July 23, 1932, in Madrid, NE to John P. and Barbara K. (Zieons) Kraus. He attended country grade school northeast of Grant until the 8th grade before graduating from St Patrick's Catholic School in Sidney. Following his education, Doug entered the US Army, where he served during the Korean War.

On January 14, 1956, Doug married Esther Lanckriet at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Julesburg, CO. The couple settled on a farm near Madrid, NE, where they raised their four children: Christine, Debra, Timothy, and Mark. John's life was deeply rooted in the values of hard work and family.

Following his education, John dedicated himself to farming and had a special love for the corn harvest and all that was involved. Doug started his trucking business later in life, which was something he also really enjoyed.

Throughout his life, Doug was known for his strong work ethic and his commitment to his family. In addition to his farming and family life, he loved Cornhusker Football and working on puzzles.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Kraus; his siblings, William, Karl, and Lou; and his brother-in-law, Len Johnson.

Survivors include his children, Chris Wendell of Grant, Deb Kraus of Madrid, Tim Kraus of Ogallala, and Mark Kraus of Madrid; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Marty Ising, Marietta Johnson, Tom (Janet) Kraus, Gerry (Shari) Kraus, Chris (Janice) Kraus, Kay (George) Meeks, and Pat (Joan) Kraus; sister-in-law, Patti Kraus; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Sister Rita Ann Mazanec died February 27, 2024, at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS. &nbsp;She was 94 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 73 years. &nbsp;She was born in Colby, KS on February 3, 1930 to Adolph and Hattie Kobza Mazanec, the sixth of seven children, and was baptized Irene Joan. &nbsp;She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, Kansas on September 8, 1949. &nbsp;On March 18, 1950, Irene received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Rita Ann. &nbsp;She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1951 and final vows on August 15, 1954.

Sister Rita Ann received an BA degree in History from Marymount College in 1968. &nbsp;She taught primary grades in Aurora, IL; Tipton, Plainville and Aurora, KS; Fairbury, NE, Beloit and Oakley, KS for a total of 42 years. &nbsp;After retirement she moved to Concordia and did various duties and served as bookkeeper for the community. &nbsp;In 2007 she moved to the Motherhouse.

Michael "Mike" Allen, age 63, of Julesburg, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at his home.&nbsp; Mike was born on June 16 1960 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to John and Anna (Day) Allen.

Mike's early life began in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he grew up and attended school.&nbsp; He joined the US Army in 1967, where he served as a Combat Engineer.&nbsp; His commitment to his country continued beyond his active duty, through his involvement in the guards for many years after his discharge.

Following his military career, Mike demonstrated exceptional skill as a master mechanic.&nbsp; His early work at Montgomery Wards in Cheyenne and subsequent construction work in Casper, Wyoming showcased his versatility and mechanical prowess.&nbsp; Mike's expertise extended to massive engines and auto mechanics, earning his associates degree in Auto Technology in 1994, which he would later put to use at a Ford dealership.&nbsp; Mike was so good at fixing anything with a motor, that he could listen to the sound over the phone and both diagnose and instruct a person verbally on how to fix it.&nbsp; However, his primary focus remained on his family, for whom he provided through various means, including property management, in later years.

Mike's love for animals, particularly the cats that found their way to his home, spoke volumes about his compassionate nature.&nbsp; A teacher, soldier, artist, mechanic, property manager, plumber, Mr. Fix-It, lifelong student, stock-trader, husband, father, and grandpa.&nbsp; Mike was a man of many talents and gifts who wore every hat well.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Preceding him in death are his grandparents, Elmer Arthur and Dorothy Day.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Brenda, of Julesburg, CO; daughter, Alicia (Felipe) Saenz of Cheyenne, WY; sons Nathaniel Arthur (Ashley Gibo) Allen of Cheyenne, WY and Matthew Ardn (Cheyenne) Allen of Omaha, NE; Nick Tucker and his family; grandchildren, Victoria Saenz, Michael Saenz, Logan Allen, Arthur Allen, and Nick; siblings David (Virginia) Allen of Laramie, WY and Amber (Joe) Eggleston of Cheyenne, WY; and many other relatives and friends.

Doris Nell Walker  (1933-2024)

James Dennis "Jim" Klein passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 at Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living at the age of 80. Jim was born in Callaway, NE on October 2, 1943 to Edd and Daisy (Helmuth) Klein. &nbsp;Jim was the fifth of six children. &nbsp;He attended school in Merna and was an Honor Society member and a very gifted athlete. &nbsp;He never spoke about his athletic prowess and his own children didn't learn of this until they were in college.&nbsp;

Jim married Janet Davy on May 25, 1962. &nbsp;It seemed like a natural thing to do since Janet had been driving him around town since he was fifteen years old. &nbsp;They had three daughters Julie, Joni and Jill and his number one son Jeff (to which Jeff replied, "I'm the only son, Dad").

&nbsp;Jim went to work for Monroe Auto in Cozad after completing high school and worked there until 1978. &nbsp;When the workday was over, he worked on his top-flight golf game with family and friends. Jon Wilson and Gary Jobman were two of his best golf buddies among many others. Weekends consisted of Mass on Saturday night and sunrise golf on Sunday morning (with a pellet gun for shooting varmint gophers along the way). He claimed it helped with his shot for hunting season. A little fishing could be mixed in along with after-hours construction projects. &nbsp;As young adults his children went to college with coat trees, bookracks and any other wooden project that was requested.

&nbsp;When the itch of construction needed to be scratched, he left Monroe's and ventured out on his own as a contractor. &nbsp;Initially he teamed up with Gene Schroeder in Brady, NE at the Cabinet Shop. &nbsp;Jim eventually built homes, did remodels and additions and built cabinets that were installed from Maxwell to Lexington, Eustis to Merna. &nbsp;He even did concrete work when he could keep from knocking himself out from getting the sledgehammer caught in the clothesline. He was a naturally gifted engineer and construction manager without the degree. &nbsp;He made sure that all of the trades didn't box each other in on his jobsites. &nbsp;He and Bill Marhenke had a lot of stories to tell. Fortunately for many, Bill loved music on the job site but Jim was meh about the music....work was the music. &nbsp;And oh, did he have standards, "If you're going to do it, do it right" was heard many times. &nbsp;Jeff later would use that to get him to do things a new way with the same high-quality results. &nbsp;Boy, that made him grab a Bud.

&nbsp;Above all of the doing, Jim was about being. &nbsp;He was a St. Joseph. &nbsp;Always guiding, protecting and serving his family and friends. &nbsp;He served on the Church Council and Knights of Columbus, along with being on some city boards. &nbsp;He maintained a large garden that was raved about by many people. &nbsp;He would arrive at people's homes with arms full of his harvest. &nbsp;The horseradish was top-shelf and that legend continues to live on. Many brats, sauerkraut and other goodies were traded to get some of it. &nbsp;You didn't want to get him started on potato planting unless you had the time to commit to listening to the entire process.

&nbsp;Family was at the #1 spot of his list. &nbsp;He never wanted a cell phone but checked in often with his family on it. &nbsp;Jim was a gentle, steady and ready influence for his family and will be missed greatly by Janet, Joni and Jeff Pharris (Jared and Jordann), Jill and Steve Sweeney (Patrick and Kelly), Jeff and Karen Klein (Mackenzie and Collin Thompson and daughter Blake, and Olivia and Isabella), his Brothers Gene and Clifford (Judy) Klein and all of the Cali and Merna Kleins. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Julie.

He was a great Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa. Be humble, faithful, healthy and at peace for he is and ever will be, wanting us to be too.

Jim’s wishes were to be cremated. Memorials are suggested to the family to set up a Trade School Scholarship. Rosary will be recited Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church.&nbsp;

Memorial Mass with cremains will be held April 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church.

Jim Klein (1943-2024)

&nbsp; Pauline Brandt, age 90 of Imperial, died February 27, 2024. Pauline was born April 15, 1933 in rural Chase County. She was the oldest child born to James Calvin and Edna Jaeger Gardner. She grew up on the family farm north west of Imperial. Pauline attended country school District #22 where she was the only one in the class each year. She graduated from Chase County High School in 1950.

Pauline taught in rural schools for four years. She attended summer classes at McCook Community College.

Pauline was married to Gilbert Brandt on June 5, 1954. They spent the first year of marriage in Norfolk, VA while Gilbert finished up his four years in the Navy. Gilbert and Pauline returned to their family farm and she resided there the rest of her life.

Gilbert and Pauline farmed together and did most other activities together. They were able to travel across the United States and Canada in their lifetimes. They both enjoyed time with family and friends.

Gilbert and Pauline belonged to a neighborhood card club that lasted 52 years. All their time together, they loved to dance. Pauline always had house plants in her home. She loved to take pictures and had filled over 75 albums. Pauline kept a diary since she was married.

In addition to her parents, Calvin and Edna Gardner, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Brandt; son-in-law: Dennis Holmes; her sister: Maurine Ransdell and Maurine’s husband, Gale; brothers: Larry Gardner, and Myron Gardner; Brothers-in-law: Dick Reynolds and Duane Goff. She is survived by her daughter: Deena Holmes; her son: Troy (Judy)Brandt. Grandchildren: Shelbi (Preston) Jueneman; Skye (Royce) Mercer; David Holmes and great grandchildren: Preston Holmes, Quincy, Rhett and Presley Mercer. Also survived by brothers: Delvin(Loneta) Gardner and Lauren(Pam) Gardner; Sisters: LaVeta Reynolds and LeAnna Goff; Sisters-in-law Carol Gardner and Shirley Gardner. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Pauline always had house plants in her home. She loved to take pictures and had filled over 75 albums. Pauline kept a diary since she was married.In addition to her parents, Calvin and Edna Gardner, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Brandt; son-in-law: Dennis Holmes; her sister: Maurine Ransdell and Maurine’s husband, Gale; brothers: Larry Gardner, and Myron Gardner; Brothers-in-law: Dick Reynolds and Duane Goff. She is survived by her daughter: Deena Holmes; her son: Troy (Judy)Brandt. Grandchildren: Shelbi (Preston) Jueneman; Skye (Royce) Mercer; David Holmes and great grandchildren: Preston Holmes, Quincy, Rhett and Presley Mercer. Also survived by brothers: Delvin(Loneta) Gardner and Lauren(Pam) Gardner; Sisters: LaVeta Reynolds and LeAnna Goff; Sisters-in-law Carol Gardner and Shirley Gardner. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.At her request, her body was donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska in Omaha. Pauline Brandt (1933-2024)

Local racing legend, Russell G. Small Sr., 64, of North Platte, NE took life's checkered flag on Feb, 22, 2024 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO.

Russ “Animal" Small joined this race we call life at the Sutherland Hospital on Aug. 30, 1959, when he was born to Julian G. and Luella M. (Smith) Small.

Russ resided in North Platte the majority of his life, aside from a few years spent in Sutherland in his late teenage years. When Russ was 15, tragedy struck and he lost his dad to a fatal heart attack. This was the reason for the move to Sutherland. Upon his graduation from Sutherland High School in May 1978, he moved back to North Platte. He also graduated from Mid Plains Voc-Tech that spring with certificates of accreditation in Auto Body and Paint and Auto Mechanics.

He worked as a mechanic at Cooper Motors and K-Mart Automotive Center until Sept. 1978, when he was hired as a Carman at Union Pacific Railroad. He gave almost 40 years of loyal service to the railroad before having to be pulled from duty due to injuries. The safety of himself and others was a high priority, and he was even recognized for going the extra mile. He was awarded many letters of recognition through the years, as he helped prevent derailments by finding defects in the rail cars.

When Russ was just 7 years old, he met Kimberly Cain and told his dad he would marry her one day. They would indeed end up married on July 21, 1979 and would celebrate almost 45 years of marriage and the birth of 5 children.

The other love of Russ'&nbsp; life started when he was young too, and that was dirt track racing. He would ride his bicycle from North Platte to Lexington and back just to watch the races at Dawson County Raceway. Then in 1980, he started his racing career at the very same track. In 1985, Russ joined a small group of other racers and brought racing back to North Platte for the first time in 20 years. He helped build Lincoln County Raceway as it sits today. He eventually hung up his steering wheel and race gloves and passed his now famous number 47 down to his son, Russ Jr. He continued to be an integral part of racing for the remainder of his life. He volunteered many hours helping many track promoters. He was knowledgeable and active in almost every aspect of preparing and running the tracks.

As the saying goes, “he had mud in his blood”. The track was his ultimate happy place, and he and his family proved “the family that races together, stays together.” His wife, kids, and even 2 grandkids raced either stock cars, karts, or demolition derbies.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include: his wife Kim, four children; Jennifer (John) Hunt, Russ Small Jr., Alicia Small (Tim Sanders), and Jeff Small, all of North Platte. Grandchildren; Jeice, Brennan, and Reese Hunt, Emily Winter, and Joseph Small (the apple of his Grandpa Grouchy's eye).

He was preceded in death by: his parents, his infant son Kenneth Ray Small, and his angel grandbabies. He was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by the many cats he loved and cared for throughout his life. Russ is now reunited with the many close racing friends he lost over the years.

A special memorial race will be held at Lincoln County Raceway at 7pm on July 6 th , 2024. A celebration of life will take place at the Lincoln County Ag Building from 12-6pm on July 7th , 2024. Adams and

Russell G Small (1959-2024)

Lois Elaine Anway passed away at North Platte Care Center on February 27, 2024 at the age of 83. &nbsp;She was born April 28, 1940 to Lester G. and Vada I. (Harvey) Anway in McPherson County near Tryon.

Lois’ family moved around to various places. &nbsp;She graduated grade school from District #12 in Arthur County. &nbsp;Lois attended McPherson County High School and graduated May 16, 1957. &nbsp;Lois and her mother worked at the café in Tryon and helped serve food at the Tryon sale barn. &nbsp;She helped paint houses and Lois and her brother worked in the hay fields in the summertime.&nbsp; Lois helped her Grandpa Harvey with his business, sold Tupperware and Beeline clothes. &nbsp;She worked at the Pawnee Retirement Hotel as kitchen manager until she retired. &nbsp;Lois enjoyed watching Nebraska Cornhusker football and volleyball and also enjoyed playing Bingo. &nbsp;She collected stuffed Dalmatians.

Lois is survived by brother, Leslie (Beverly) Anway of North Platte; numerous other family members and friends.

Lois Elaine Anway (1940-2024)

Eugene&nbsp;Langemeier of North Platte peacefully passed away on February 27, 2024, at the age of 78.

Gene, the son of Harvey and Anna Mae Langemeier, was born October 6, 1945, at Osmond, NE, and grew up on a farm near Magnet, NE. &nbsp;He graduated from Wausa High School.

On November 29, 1963, Gene married Cheryl Plog in Wausa, NE, then went on to serve in the U.S. Navy. &nbsp;Following his discharge in 1966, Gene returned to his bride in Wausa.

The couple moved to Stapleton in 1972 then to North Platte in '78 where Gene worked 28 years with Hild Propane. He later worked for his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Teresa, driving for Cornhusker Delivery (hauling supplies for Menards) and at the Laundry Zone. &nbsp;Gene liked working and socializing with customers.

If he wasn't working, Gene enjoyed pitching horseshoes, bowling, playing cards and fiddling in his garage. &nbsp;He was also a member of the V.F.W. &nbsp;Gene was a great husband, father and grandfather who leaves us with many wonderful memories.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cheryl, and their children, Brent Langemeier, Brad Langemeier (Teresa) and Kim Richter (James), all of North Platte; grandchildren, Tara Schultz (Zach), Karsen Falcon (Jimmy), Kaden Langemeier, Braden Langemeier, Bryce Langemeier and Maylah Langemeier; great-grandkids, Greah and Boon Falcon and Rhiannon Schultz; his brother, Gary Langemeier (Janet) of Hemet, CA; sister-in-law, Diana Langemeier of Wayne; and numerous other family members.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Anna Mae; and brother, Wayne.

Gene Langemeier (1945-2024)

Marvin Clifford Boesen was born in Murphy, Nebraska on March 21, 1927 to Harry and Mildred Boesen. He was the first born of identical twin boys. His twin brother Marcus, who was the long-time Dean at Black Hills State College in Spearfish, South Dakota died at 59.

Marvin was preceded in death by brothers Marcus, Clarke, and Curtis and sisters Mary Jane and Gretchen. He is survived by his youngest sibling, his brother Kelly (New Braunfels, TX).

When in high school, Marvin enlisted in the Navy to serve in World War II and was a gunner on the battle cruiser U.S.S. Alaska, in the South China Sea. &nbsp;He graduated from Hastings College with post-graduate studies at the University of Nebraska and Colorado State University. At Hastings, he majored in English with a minor in Physical Education. He taught English and coached for 25 years, including several state champion teams and individuals. Along the way he was also a counselor and superintendent. While coaching and teaching in Rapid City, South Dakota, he worked as a seasonal ranger at Mount Rushmore. In 1970 he leveraged his doctoral work and become a school psychologist and moved to North Platte where he worked for Educational Service Unit #16 for 20 years.

Marvin married his wife of 70 years, Marjorie, in 1953 and raised three sons: Michael (Fort Collins, Colorado), Mark (Rockford, Illinois), and Monte (Malcolm, Nebraska).

He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish, hunt, hike, camp, and play golf. He fished from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. Two of his favorite fishing places were in the Black Hills, casting for trout in Sylvan Lake or Deerfield Reservoir. Much of his golf was played at Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte where there is a stone bench in his honor by the first tee. He was particularly fond of his chocolate Labrador retriever, Maxi. He spent many hours training her for field trials. &nbsp;In retirement, Marvin and Marjorie wintered in Rockport, TX where he fished, played golf, and enjoyed the friendship of fellow snow birds. At home, he was a voracious reader of mysteries and historical nonfiction.

From Marvin: “Weep not for me. I have spent my allotted time on this orb. It’s time to move on. I’ve heard you can’t take it with you, but I’m taking memories with me . . . of a loving wife and our three boys, and the things they’ve said and done over the many years of growth and development.”

Marvin is survived by his wife, three sons, grandchildren: Christopher (Tomball, Texas) and Matthew (Cypress,Texas), Michelle (Mito, Japan) and Mark Jr. (Gurnee, Illinois), Heather Lovejoy (Roscoe, Illinois), Andrea Featherston (Roscoe, Illinois), John (Malcolm, Nebraska), Kyler (Pingree Grove, Illinois); and great grandchildren: Brooke and Beau (Tomball, Texas), and many nieces and nephews.

Inurnment will be at Loup Fork Cemetery in Boelus, Nebraska with many generations of his paternal ancestors.

Robert (Bob) Gollner (76) passed away at his home in Omaha, Nebraska, on December 28, 2023.

Bob was born on May 21, 1947, in Imperial, NE. He graduated from Venango High School in 1965 and Kearney State College in 1970. He taught history for the Omaha Public School District before spending the next 28 years as a probation officer in Omaha. He approached his work, and his life, with compassion, care, humility, and a wonderful sense of humor. Bob retired from the District Probation Office in 2009.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Hart Gollner, father Harvey Gollner and brother Donald Gollner. He was a dear uncle to Brent and Patty Gollner of Hastings, NE; Donya and Rick Hengehold of Edwardsville, IL; Nikki Pfeiffer of Madrid, NE and BJ Gollner, also of Madrid, and brother-in-law to Judy Gollner of Imperial, NE and Billie Shelton of Council Bluffs IA. He was cherished by a wide circle of friends and family, former colleagues, neighbors, and anyone lucky enough to know him. Robert Gollner (1947-2023)

Deborah Ann Bostwick, 67, life-long resident of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at her home.

Deborah was born on December 18, 1956 in North Platte, NE the daughter of Harlan and Shirley (Floro) Herrick. She grew up in a large family along with her eight siblings and attended school in North Platte graduating from North Platte High School in 1975. It was while in high school she met the love of her life, Robert Ray Bostwick. They were married on August 2, 1974 in North Platte and together had three children.

There was nothing that Deborah put her mind to that she could not accomplish. She was a very talented interior designer who eventually put all her energy into establishing her own business in 1998 out of her home. She owned and operated Deborah’s First-Class Interiors, eventually moving to its downtown location serving clients from all over Nebraska and beyond. Working&nbsp;alongside her daughter Jill, her clients became more, they became her friends. She made time for everyone, often spending hours listening to clients wishes and dreams for their home designs. In 1999 she was awarded by the American Society of Interior Designers, the National Excellence in Design Award. She was also top of her class in brick laying school, again showing there wasn’t anything Deb put her mind to that she couldn’t do. In the last several years of her life Deb dedicated herself to growing and designing beautiful floral bouquets sharing them each week with local nursing homes, and homeless shelters in the area. She also made seasonal decorative wreaths that were freely given with love to all. Deb was a member of the Berean Church in North Platte and had a very strong faith in God and Jesus. She was always very giving of herself, and her kindness flowed over to everyone she met. Family was most important to her, and she absolutely adored her grandchildren. Deb will be very missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Shirley Herrick, and by a sister, Lori Dougherty.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Robert; children, Robert “Bob” Bostwick of North Platte, Jill (Brian) Baxter of North Platte, and Jacob (Bianca) Bostwick of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren, Chloe and Josie Bostwick, Bryson and Rhiannon Baxter, Jacobi and Jasmine Bostwick; siblings, Harlan Herrick of North Platte, Donna (Mike) Coleman of Hershey, Randy Herrick of North Platte, Sharon (Dave) Christensen of Papillion, Cindy (Perry) Hall of North Platte, and Dan (Jacque) Herrick of North Platte; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Berean Church with Pastor John Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, February 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.

She grew up in a large family along with her eight siblings and attended school in North Platte graduating from North Platte High School in 1975. It was while in high school she met the love of her life, Robert Ray Bostwick. They were married on August 2, 1974 in North Platte and together had three children.There was nothing that Deborah put her mind to that she could not accomplish. She was a very talented interior designer who eventually put all her energy into establishing her own business in 1998 out of her home. Deborah Ann Bostwick (1956-2024)

&nbsp; Richard W. Newman of Champion passed away Feb. 20 at his home just days after returning from a nearly two-week hospitalization in Greeley, CO. He was 75.

Richard’s roots ran deep in Chase County. His great-grandfather Clarence C. Cottrell was among the founders of Imperial. His grandparents Inez and John N. Newman were early farmers, ranchers and business owners in Imperial. His maternal grandparents, Katherine and Thomas Cruise, ranched near Champion.

Richard was born July 6, 1948, in Imperial to Carmen (Cruise) and Wayne C. Newman, a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II. After the deaths of his parents when he was a young boy, Richard and his older brother, Bruce, were raised by his Newman grandparents. A younger sister, Jean, was adopted by an aunt and uncle, Lois and W. F. Greenlee, Jr., of Oshkosh. Bruce died in an automobile accident in 1965.

Richard was in the Chase County High School class of 1966. He joined the Army after high school and served in Arizona and Alaska. After his discharge, Richard moved to a log home on the Poudre River west of Fort Collins and lived there for many years. He later moved to Arizona and worked in the used car and car rental business. In the early '90s he moved back to Chase County, eventually settling on Main Street in Champion.

Fiercely independent and curious, Richard followed many interests: old cars, pool, music, antiques, Western history and memorabilia, coin collecting, guns. He befriended and mentored young people and took joy in their accomplishments. He always had one or two dogs by his side. Over his life he was a ranch hand, car mechanic, logger, antique collector and dealer, pool shark, and raconteur.

Richard loved his family, friends and community, all of whom will mourn his passing. A Celebration of life will be held at 2:00 P.M. (MT) Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Champion Community Church. A luncheon hosted by Champion Women’s Club will be held at 12:00 P.M. (MT) at the Champion Community Building prior to the Celebration of life.

Donna Kittle, who was better known as “granny” to everyone who knew her, left her Earthly home in North Platte, NE, for her Heavenly home on February 26, 2024 at 87 years old.&nbsp;

Donna was born on August 27, 1936, in Brady, Nebraska to Thomas and Stella (Beavers) Koenig and at the age of three, their family moved to the “island” house West of Maranatha Bible Camp in Maxwell. Donna graduated from Maxwell High School in 1954. Little did Donna know that when she started kindergarten, she would meet the man she would spend the rest of her life with. On September 2, 1955, she married Dean Kittle. Together they had three children: Pamela, Rhonda and Douglas.&nbsp;

Donna was employed by Miles Cleaners, Orr’s Cleaners, Allen’s Self Service and retired from Westfield Pharmacy in 2020. She was a servant leader and spent her entire career in retail serving her customers.&nbsp;

Donna’s priorities in life were her Faith and her family. &nbsp;She enjoyed monthly family holiday and birthday gatherings and always had room for one more at the dinner table. Donna’s family was of the utmost importance to her. She attended every ball game, concert and play of each child, grandchild and great-grandchild from preschool programs clear through college. Even though she hated water, the snow, and cold, she loved family vacations to the lake and the mountains. &nbsp;

Donna was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Maxwell and accepted Christ as her Savior during her junior year in high school and was baptized a year later. She served as a Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school teacher, youth group sponsor, church treasurer, as well as, in the church choir and on the women’s missions’ group. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her parents, Tom Koenig and Stella Cain; son-in-law, Edward Johnson; her in-laws, Bernice and Lester Kittle; brother, Bob Koenig (Doris and Lucille); sisters, Virginia Bailey (Don), and Patricia Mentzer (Delbert); sister-in-law, Elaine (Cal) Miller; brother-in-law, Donn Kittle (Shirley); nephew, David Mentzer; nieces, Carol Koenig, and Karen (Kittle) Kraich; and special friend, Bill Freeman.

Donna Jean Kittle (1936-2024)

Phyllis Elaine Bowlin, age 92, of Arthur Nebraska died Saturday, February 24th, 2024, at Perkins County Health Services in Grant, Nebraska.

Phyllis was born to Phillip Hild and Elva Bateman Hild on February 24th, 1932 in Niobrara, Nebraska. When she was four years old her brother, Dale, was born.

Before Phyllis was four years old, she and her family moved to a farm north of Brady, Nebraska. Phyllis attended school at Wild Horse Valley School near their farm. Her father, Phillip, died when Phyllis was fourteen years old. She didn't get to go to high school because Dale and her mother couldn't keep the farm going by themselves. She worked the farm with them until she was around eighteen. Phyllis then started working at the lunch counter at Woolworth's in North Platte.

While staying with her aunt and uncle in Maxwell, she rode along with her uncle, who was a night watchman at Frank's Farm Equipment to make his rounds. While there she met her future husband, Jim. They started out married life in an apartment in North Platte. Phyllis always talked about using orange crates for cupboards since they had no furniture. When they moved on to work at a farm near Brady, the house had cupboards, so the orange crates became end tables.

Phyllis and Jim went on to work on the Kramer ranch near the Birdwood Creek and the Rodewald ranch near Stapleton. During the time they worked at Brady, the Birdwood, and Stapleton all three children, Carolyn, Ronda, and Neil were born.

In 1957 Phyllis and Jim moved to Arthur for work at the Triangle Ranch. They started out living in Hank and Dena Swanson's basement until the house at Box Lake was ready. After several years at Triangle, they moved into Arthur, where they lived until moving to the Mahlon Johnson place where they lived until they finally achieved their lifelong dream of owning their own ranch. They moved to the Ted Frye ranch in the 1980s and later purchased it.

Phyllis loved being a ranch wife and mother. She helped with the ranch work and was famous for the good food she served the many kids who worked for them. Phyllis loved being on the hospitality committee and feeding all the kids that came home with her kids after school. She had a great love for animals and especially enjoyed her dogs and her chickens. Phyllis loved her family and friends, making many friends feel like family.

Preceding her in death were her husband Jim and her parents.

Survivors include son, Neil (Shelley) Bowlin of Gurley; daughters, Carolyn (Red) Cerny of Arthur; and Ronda (Alan) Haumann of Thedford; a brother Dale (Kathy) Hild of Brady; four grandchildren Charlene Cerny (Dave Roque) of San Diego, Mikki Cerny of Axtell, NE, Brook (Beau) Huffman of Hastings, and D.J. Haumann of Bingham; eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 29th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Arthur Baptist Church in Arthur, Nebraska.

Jeff was born in North Platte, NE to Raymond Weaver and Pauline Ruth (Hora) Maxwell.&nbsp; Jeff attended high school in North Platte, where he met Lucy Ann Dowhower, and they married on August 10, 1969.&nbsp; Jeff’s lifelong love of tinkering led them to Lincoln, where he attended the University of Nebraska and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.&nbsp; After moving between Lincoln and Omaha working for the railroad and various engineering firms, they eventually moved to Denver, with their two kids (Christa and Gregg), where he worked for Abeyta Engineering Firm designing HVAC systems for many of the buildings in Denver Metro area.&nbsp; He soon found his true passion and opened his own business that allowed him to combine his passion for engineering and cars.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jeff and Lucy purchased Off Road Ltd in 1978 which was located Arvada, CO. in a 4,400 sq. ft. building.&nbsp; In 1979, Jeff was the first to offer 4WD conversions in the Denver/Rocky Mountain region with primary focus on vans.&nbsp; Providing 4WD ambulance conversions for such companies as Collins Coach.&nbsp; In 1982, Jeff, being the avid off-road race fanatic, was part of bringing what later became known as short course off-road racing that was made famous by the late Mickey Thompson, to the Denver metro area.&nbsp; The operation was relocated in 1986 and then in 1990, both in Aurora, CO. &nbsp; Then in 1991 Jeff was involved with Mickey Thompson Event Group when the stadium races came to Denver Mile High Stadium.&nbsp; By 1995, Off Road Ltd had outgrown its location and moved to a 20,000 sq ft building and was known as “Colorado’s Oldest &amp; Largest” Automotive shop.&nbsp; In 2003, Jeff had another opportunity to own and operate a full race Monster Truck, Xtreme Whiplash, which was featured in the 2002 movie Run Ronnie Run.&nbsp; Jeff and his son, Gregg, drove the truck at several events over the next 11 years and even took it to charity events at the Children’s Hospital located in Aurora, CO.&nbsp; They even worked with other Monster Truck Owners, such as Max D and Mohawk Warrior.&nbsp; Over the years, Jeff enjoyed being involved in all aspects of racing, truck shows and charity events.&nbsp; In 2020, Jeff and Lucy decided to semi-retire and moved to Lemoyne, NE.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucy Ann Maxwell and their two children, Christa Shogren of Commerce City, CO and Gregg&nbsp; (Shannon) Maxwell (Shannon) of Haxtun, CO.&nbsp; His 3 grandkids, Nissa (Eric) Jansen, Katelynn Maxwell, and Breahna Shogren.&nbsp; His 4 great grandkids, Lorelai, Ronny, Waylen, and Brice. He was proceeded in death by his mother and father.

Jeff R Maxwell (1948-2024)

Vincent Rue Lee, of rural Elsie, NE, passed away peacefully at Imperial Manor on February 20, 2024, at the age of 86.

Vincent was the fifth child born to Margaret and George Lee Sr. on November 11, 1937, at their home south of Elsie. He attended country school until the 8th grade and then went to Elsie High School, where he graduated in 1955.

It was during his school years that he met the love of his life, Patsy Courtney. He and Patsy wed on November 26, 1955, at Resurrection of Our Lord in Elsie. They moved south of Elsie, and from this union, four children were born: Daniel, Michael, Bradley, and Beverly (Susie).

Vince loved working with his brothers, and from that, Lee Brothers was formed. Vince enjoyed the cattle and livestock, farming and harvesting, and looked forward to each season and what it would bring. He loved being a farmer and watching everything grow. He was proud to get to work with his brothers, son, and grandson each day.

Vince was a big supporter of 4-H with his children and community. When Dan, Mike, Brad, and Susie were young, he and Patsy were 4-H leaders of the "Country Cousins" 4-H group. Many demonstrations and 4-H presentations were given in their living room. After his kids had aged out of 4-H, Vince became a Perkins County Fair Board member. He served proudly for 30 years. In 2002, Vince and Patsy were named the Perkins County Fair Grand Marshals.

Vince was a lifelong member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Elsie. He served many years as a lector for the parish. He was also an avid singer and sang for several of his grandchildren's weddings. He loved singing "Ave Maria."

Vince loved a good story and a good laugh and would leave you with a smile. He took great pride in being a good neighbor to everyone. Vince was a devoted husband all the way to the end when Patsy passed away in June of 2007.

Vince was greeted in heaven by his wife of 51 years, Patsy, son Brad; grandsons Jared and Kevin Lee, brothers Jack, Jim, George, and Bill, and sister Regina; parents Margaret &amp; George Sr; Father-in-Law Dick Courtney; Mother-in-Law Mary Courtney and Brothers-in-Law Fritz Duggan and Jim Longcor.

Left to carry on his legacy are his children Daniel (Patti) Lee of Elsie, NE., Michael (Karla) Lee of Glenrock, WY., Ellen Lee of Glenrock, WY., and Susie Lee of Torrington, WY. Grandchildren: Justin (Kelly) Loeffler, Casey (Tristan) Lee, Mitch (Ryan) Lee, Jennifer (Jade) Reimers, Tara Smith, Courtney (Stetson) Ostrander, Michelle (Aaron) Knoll, Jason (Morgan) Lee, Tyler, Ryan (McKenzie), Adam, Kyle, Linda (Zac) King. Great grandchildren: Isabelle &amp; Hayden Loeffler, Ada, Ruby, and Xavier Lee, Taven &amp; Harper Reimers, Bradley &amp; Charlie Smith, Tenley &amp; Jensen Ostrander, Gabriel Knoll, Ryken Lee, Oaklee, Harlynn, &amp; Radlee King; sisters-in-Law Janet Lee, Joan Duggan, Diane Smith, Connie Wilson; and his incredibly special friend of 16 years Norma Mayer; and numerous nieces, nephews and many lifelong friends.

Visitation will be on Friday, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant. The Rosary will be recited on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the church.

Chuck Bowen, 89, of Oconto NE, passed away on the 19th&nbsp;of February at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Charles Edward Bowen was born May 15, 1934, in Centerville, Massachusetts. He was the youngest of five children born to Norman and Josephine Bowen.

He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. &nbsp;He remained in the service until his retirement in 1973, remaining in the Reserves until 1981.

After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for General Electric for many years. &nbsp;He was a founding member of the McChord Air Museum Foundation. He oversaw airplane restoration operations for the museum and was Crew Chief for the restoration of the C-124 “Old Shakey.”

He was married to Charlene Campbell from 1952 until her death in 2003. &nbsp;In 2013, he married Doris Myers, and they traveled extensively before returning to her home state of Nebraska.

Memorials should go to the McChord Air Museum Foundation, or to Oconto Rescue Unit.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Charlene, his parents, his four brothers and one sister, and daughter-in-law Sue.

He is survived by his wife Doris, his oldest son Ken and wife Patti, of Miami, Florida, his son Gary, of Spanaway, Washington, his daughter Sally and husband Dave Bricker, of Huntsville, Alabama, son Richard of Seattle, Washington, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charles Bowen (1934-2024)

David (Dave) Kalb, 81, of Chappell went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, February 16, 2024, with his loving wife by his side.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home in Chappell with Pastor Rich Graeff officiating. &nbsp;Burial with military honors will follow in the Chappell City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 3:00 to 5:00 Wednesday at the funeral home.

He grew up on a farm in Chappell where he learned to ride horses (which were not his favorite thing), farming of various crops, and ranch. Dave graduated from Chappell High School and went to college for two years. Returning to the family farm a few years later, in his early twenties, he honorably served in the Nebraskan Army National Guard for six years in Ogallala, 1st&nbsp;Battalion, 168th&nbsp;Field Artillery. He achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class while he performed duties as the Chief of Firing Battery. After his service, Dave went into trucking and drove grain trucks, but his love of hauling cattle became his career for many years all over the United States. His last and favorite truck was a beautiful Peterbilt, that he called Rosie!!!&nbsp;

&nbsp;Dave had a very adventurous life. For anyone that knew him he had plenty of stories to tell on any given day. &nbsp; He loved telling stories of his adventures as a truck driver. He proudly displayed a large map of the United States in his shop with push pins in every city he had visited while driving. Many of his stories were followed by a lot of laughter as they were always entertaining, and some were more colorful than others. When it came to farming, he was always very proud of the work he did and if you drove by one of his fields you knew it was his because of the straight lines and no weeds. He was a perfectionist in many ways even when it came to removing snow from his neighbor’s driveways. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. At the end of a very hard day’s work, it usually ended with an ice-cold beer and conversation on what needs to be taken care of next.

&nbsp;His love for dogs was unmatched. He and his faithful companion, Annie could be seen out for a morning or evening drive on their UTV.&nbsp;

David Kalb (1942-2024)

On February 12, 2024, Sheila Kay (Jaeger) Johnson passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. &nbsp;Sheila was born June 13, 1949 in Imperial, Nebraska to Wayne and Ruth Jaeger.

Sheila graduated from Chase County High School in 1967 and in 1968, she graduated from Parks School of Business in Denver, Colorado. &nbsp;After graduating from business school, Sheila worked for Data Documents in Englewood, Colorado. &nbsp;In 1969, she married and gave birth to her surviving son Cody Kimberling. &nbsp;Sheila moved to McCook, Nebraska in 1970 and while living there as a single mother raising her son, she worked for the McCook Public School Administration Office. &nbsp; In 1974, Sheila was recognized by the McCook Business and Professional Women’s Association for her work implementing computerized financial record keeping. &nbsp;In 1976, after the loss of her father, Sheila moved to Imperial, Nebraska. &nbsp;She worked as an administrative assistant for the Imperial School system. &nbsp;In 1981, Sheila started her social work career for Nebraska Department of Health. &nbsp;Eventually, she advanced to Southwest Nebraska Regional Supervisor for Department of Health and Human Services. &nbsp;Sheila remained in that position until 1986. &nbsp;While living in Imperial, she was elected to serve on the City Council in 1984. &nbsp;During her tenure, she also served on the West Central Nebraska Development District Board, Imperial Centennial Celebration Planning Committee and helped spearhead Imperial’s recycling program which benefited local citizens. &nbsp;In 1988, Sheila started her own in-home business helping families process medical claims. &nbsp;In 1992, Sheila and Barry Johnson moved to North Platte, Nebraska. &nbsp;Together they operated Johnson’s Taxidermy for 25 years. &nbsp;Additionally, she was deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of her husband's PRCA rodeo career.

Shelia’s true passions in life were her family, travel, and volunteering. &nbsp;She was a selfless daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, wife, and friend. &nbsp;After her mother’s death, Sheila devoted her life to care for her disabled brother, Ronald Jaeger. &nbsp;She was a devoted sister and had a special relationship with her brother, Duke Jaeger. &nbsp;Sheila was Duke’s best friend and confidant with all matters in life. &nbsp;She was a devoted mother who epitomized unconditional love and support. &nbsp;Most importantly, Sheila was a loving and deeply involved grandmother. &nbsp;Her love for her grandchildren was immensely palpable. &nbsp;She was pivotal in the upbringing of her son’s three children and swelled with pride as being the “Best Babysitter on the Planet”. &nbsp;Sheila was a loyal and genuinely devoted friend to many people from all walks of life. &nbsp;She enjoyed traveling across the country, going to various rodeos with her husband. &nbsp;She also loved having the opportunity to travel the world with her grandchildren and brother Duke Jaeger. &nbsp;Her heart swelled with pride and joy watching her grandchildren grow and participate in school activities and sporting events. &nbsp;Sheila was also involved in arts and she enjoyed painting and music. &nbsp;She was a member of Heartland Singers and volunteered to serve as treasurer and record keeping. &nbsp;Sheila also served as elected president and treasurer for the HOA at Kristen Court. &nbsp;She was a devoted philanthropist for the disabled and underserved.

Sheila was preceded in death by her mother and father Ruth and Wayne Jaeger of Imperial; brother, Ronald Jaeger; sisters, Connie Jaeger, Debra Anderson, and Carol Chur.

Sheila is survived by her grieving son, Cody (Donelle) Kimberling and their children, Chase, Jenna and Kinsey Kimberling of North Platte; brothers, Duke Jaeger of Imperial, and Sid Jaeger of Darr; husband, Barry Johnson and his daughter Renee (Bryan) Graysen, and their son, Rylan Grayson; numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Memorials are suggested to be sent on behalf of Sheila to Mosaic Home Capernaum. P.O. Box 67, Axtell, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held privately at her graveside. &nbsp;Inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.

Mother, you are deeply missed. &nbsp;However, know that you will live on in our forever grateful hearts and minds. &nbsp;You graced the world with endless love for your family. &nbsp;Heaven gained a true angel and I take comfort knowing you are walking hand in hand with God and your loved ones that have passed. &nbsp;Please continue to guide us in all that we do in life and know that you will never be out of our mind’s eyesight walking with us morning, noon, and night. &nbsp;RIP my beloved mother.
