&nbsp; Delores "Dee" L. DeLay passed away at age 90 on December 3, 2023, at Banner Health in Ogallala after a long illness of dementia. 

Delores was born January 3, 1933, to Emil and Ester Alice (Reneberg) Badenhoop at Smith Center, KS, where she grew up with her brother, Richard.&nbsp; Delores graduated from Smith Center High School in 1950.

In July 1950, Delores married Louis Lee Barnhill in Lincoln, NE, and their daughter, Janis, was born in 1952.&nbsp; The family moved to Hastings, NE, for a few years then settled on a farm near Kensington, KS. Lee worked with his father-in-law, Emil, in the family farm and cattle business, known as B&amp;B Ranch. Delores was a farm wife and stay-at-home mom for many years and she loved bowling; she belonged to a league in Kensington.

Lee and Delores loved racing stock cars for about 10 years until Lee passed away of pneumonia in 1966.&nbsp; Delores and Janis then moved into Kensington, where Janis went to high school and Delores worked as a secretary for Kensington Grade School.

After Janis graduated from high school in 1970, Delores moved to Boulder, CO, where she worked at the University of Colorado for 21 years, retiring in 1999.&nbsp; She married Gene DeLay in 1978 in Las Vegas and they lived in Boulder.&nbsp; Las Vegas was a favorite vacation destination for most of her life.&nbsp; Gene had 3 sons who spent many weekends with them.&nbsp; The couple divorced in 1996.

Delores was an avid reader who read hundreds of books over her lifetime and had a very extensive library in her home.&nbsp; She also belonged to a book club in Boulder and enjoyed going downtown to a pub where she had many friends.&nbsp; Delores loved the Colorado mountains and would take friends and family on scenic drives and shopping.

In 2001, she relocated to North Platte, NE, to be close to her daughter and family.&nbsp; She played Bunco with new friends, joined a local book club, and spent time with her family.

Delores is survived by her daughter, Janis Barnhill Knight of North Platte and grandson, Spencer G. Knight of North Platte; granddaughter, Joni Knight Morash (Dan) of Stapleton; and 3 great-grandchildren, Keith, Summer and Paige Morash.

Along with her first husband, Lee, Delores was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Richard.

Cremation was chosen and there will be no services.&nbsp; Inurnment will be at Germantown Cemetery, near Kensington, KS, close to her parents, Ester and Emil Badenhoop.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Robert “Bob” Allen Holliday Sr. was born in Lamar, Colorado on September 5, 1941, to William “Bill” Perry and Jessie Lois (Murphy) Holliday. On July 12, 1958, he was united in marriage to Connie Joann Wolfe. They made their first home in Brule, Nebraska where Bob worked at Goodall Manufacturing for a short period before moving back to Wilsonville, Nebraska where he was employed by Allen Kasson and other area farmers. Other jobs included N.I. Johnson Grain Company in Norcatur, Kansas, for two years and Chavital Texaco Co. in Atwood, Kansas for a year. From there he moved his family to Eustis, Nebraska and worked for Monroe Manufacture building shock absorbers.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Bob enlisted in the United States Army on January 16, 1963, receiving his basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia for mechanic school, graduating in July of 1963. He then went to Oakland, California for a short time before being transferred to Schofield Base in Hawaii, where he received a Good Conduct Medal along with a mechanic badge and a sharpshooter rifle M-1 medal. Bob was honorably discharged as a Specialist 4 USAR on March 30, 1965. Returning home to his wife, three sons and one daughter, they made their home in Fairfield, Nebraska where he worked for Fate Construction, laying brick and block along with working with cement for eight years. While in Fairfield, their fourth son, Robert “Rob” Jr. was born. The family then moved to Sutton, Nebraska where he was employed by Smith Brothers Allis Chambers dealership. While there, he attended Lincoln Technical College for auto electric systems. He graduated on November 24, 1971. After a few years, he moved his family to Kearney, Nebraska where Bob and Connie managed the Bingo gas station. He also worked for Rockwell Co. for a year. He became an employee of Roeder Brothers Construction for a couple of years before moving his family back to Wilsonville. There he owned and operated his own construction business. He and his Uncle Homer Fisher also insulated homes. Bob also assisted Dale Presler with his propane business. He then became employed by Furnas County as a heavy equipment operator. He retired from the county after 20 years. Bob then hauled grain for Vic Knutson Farms until failing health forced him to full time retirement.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; While living in Wilsonville, he was the Chairman of the board for 16 years and served on the cemetery board for many years. Bob was baptized in the Wilsonville Baptist-Christian Church on January 13, 2010. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, watching western movies, playing cards and keeping up with his family.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Those preceding Bob in death include his parents, Bill, Sr. (1981) and Lois (2003); mother and father-in-law, Etta and Byron Wolfe; (1969); granddaughter, Porsha Holliday (1994); brother, Bill (2023); his aunt, Margaret and uncle, Homer Fisher; aunt, Orpha and uncle, Earl Shaw and their son, Jerry Shaw; his grandparents, Florence Murphy and Boyd and Cody Holliday; &nbsp;along with multiple aunts and uncles.

Robert "Bob" Allen Holliday (1941-2023) 

Eldree F. Walker, age 88, a long-time Ogallala resident, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Sedgewick County Hospital, Julesburg, CO.

Eldree was born January 21, 1935, in Pryor, OK to Loren and Alma (Phillips) Robinette. She grew up in Grainton, NE, later moving with her family to Ogallala where she graduated High School.

Ree married Charles Walker in May of 1953. To this union, five children were born. After several years as a secretary and being fortunate enough to retire from Holtzfaster Irrigation, Charlie and Ree spent hours following their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to various sporting events, while also finding time to be devoted Husker fans.

A great passion for camping built many loving friendships along life’s way. Lake McConaughy being at the top of Ree’s list of favorite places. Charlie and Ree spent winter months in the south to escape the cold and relish in the sunshine, becoming her favorite hobby.

Ree loved to read, crochet, and simply sit in the sunshine. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and an active member of the Women of the Moose.

Eldree is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister Wanda Mercer, and a brother Harold Robinette.

She is survived by her children, Ronnie (Jeff) Johnson of Rushville, NE, Mike (Leah) Walker of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Barry (Cindy) Walker of Big Springs, NE, Brad (Tobi) Walker of Phoenix, AZ and Kelle (Steve) Brott of Chappell, NE; and 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

A private family committal service will take place in Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE.

Eldree Walker (1935-2023)

Gail Ellen Tagtmeyer, age 78, died in faith in her LORD, Jesus Christ, on November 29, 1923, at Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, CO.

Gail was born June 11, 1945, to Albert Christian and Ella Marie (Kreinbring) Christensen in Sterling, Colorado.&nbsp; She attended grade school and high school in Sterling, graduating in 1963.&nbsp; Gail married; her son, Bruce Duane Wagner, was born on August 6, 1964.&nbsp; They lived in northern Nebraska for several years.&nbsp; After her divorce, she went back to Sterling.&nbsp; Gail was then employed for about twenty years by the Sterling Advocate Newspaper as a business manager.&nbsp;

On April 30, 1994, Gail was united in marriage to Louis Eugene Tagtmeyer at Peace Lutheran Church in Sterling, Colorado.&nbsp; Their first date was a drive around Lake McConaughy.&nbsp; The couple resided in the Ogallala area.&nbsp; Gail enjoyed her friends, puzzles, computers, and singing.&nbsp; She was a faithful member of the local and zone Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School in Ogallala.&nbsp; For over twenty-five years Gail served as a volunteer at St. Paul’s in various capacities, including, but not limited to: preschool, after-school, office helper, ladies' circle, and choir.&nbsp; For the past few years, she was employed by St. Paul’s as a school secretary to the head teacher, Dru Lutkehus.

She is survived by her husband, Louis; son, Bruce of Sterling; &nbsp;granddaughter, Prairie Rose (Nick) Morales of Sterling; pet dog, Shadow; Rick Lee Tagtmeyer, son-in-law, of Chappell;&nbsp; grandsons, Dillon Allen (Jamie) Tagtmeyer of Gordon, Austin Leroy (Rachel) Tagtmeyer of Mendon, NE; Weston Lee Tagtmeyer of Chappell; great-grandson Jackson Tagtmeyer of Gordon, NE;&nbsp; sisters, Sharon Ann Hamilton of Albuquerque, NM and Lila Johanna Moore of Sterling, CO;&nbsp; sister-in-law, Vida Rilley of Longmont, CO; brothers-in-law’s, Gary Tagtmeyer of South Port, NC and&nbsp; Henry (Alberta) Tagtmeyer of Seibert, CO.

Vincent Bradley "Brad" Lee, 64, of Glenrock, Wyoming passed Friday, November 3, 2023. He was the third son of Vincent and Patsy Lee of Elsie, Nebraska.

Brad was baptized into the Catholic Church and raised in Perkins County, Nebraska, in the farming community. He believed in hard work and appreciation for the land and animals. Brad was an active member in 4-H and a talented high school athlete.

He graduated from Elsie-Madrid High School in 1977 and NWKTC in 1979. Brad received a degree in Engineering and Drafting. During college, he met his faithful wife Ellen and they married June 30, 1979.

The newlyweds moved to Lexington, Nebraska, where they raised three children. Brad enjoyed gardening, loved dogs, and being involved with his children's extracurriculars including coaching, and as school board president. Brad had a 20+ year career at Orthman Manufacturing before beginning a decade-long business partnership with his brother Mike, building custom homes in Glenrock, Wyoming. He also enjoyed woodworking, attending rodeos, helping friends and family, and working cattle back on the Lee Brothers Farm in Elsie each spring.

An avid outdoorsman, Brad spent time hunting and fishing with his father, brothers, and nephews. What he really loved most was the chance to spend time with and spoil his grandkids, sharing his love of animals and the outdoors.

Tragically, Brad suffered a massive stroke in September 2011, which forever changed everything. The lingering effects of his traumatic brain injury ultimately lead to the steady deterioration in Brad's overall health and life.

Brad is survived by his wife, Ellen; father, Vincent; three children and their spouses, Casey and Tristan, Mitch and Ryan, and Tara; his three siblings, Dan, Mike, and Susie; five grandkids, Ada, Ruby, Bradley, Xavier, and Charlie; and many nieces and nephews.

Brad Lee (1959-2023)

Lee Cundall, 95 of Ogallala passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.&nbsp;

He was born on July 20, 1928, to Walter and Myrtle (Shillington) Cundall in Douglas, Wyoming.&nbsp; He was raised on the main Cundall Ranch along the North Platte River east of Glendo, Wyoming.&nbsp; In the early years, the family raised registered Herefords, in later years they transitioned to a yearling operation. Even though he wintered in Arizona, and lived in Nebraska in later years, he was a proud Wyoming Rancher.&nbsp; When the Glendo Dam was built, it covered much of the original homestead and Lee’s family moved to the East part of the Ranch and continued ranching.

Lee was one of the original Rural Fire Wardens when the county formed rural fire districts around Glendo and was on many rural fires over the years.

He was on the Glendo School Board for many years and was proud to be a leader in the community.

Lee enjoyed people and had many friends.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, golfing, helping friends and neighbors, and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

&nbsp;He was always up for a good joke on his friends. Once even setting a trap for Santa but only catching his old black boot, much to the consternation of his sons.

Survivors include his wife Frances, of Ogallala children, Dan (Kathleen) Cundall, of Pinewood Springs, CO, Larry (Ruthie) Cundall of Douglas, WY, Mark Cundall of Round Rock, TX, and Robin (Rodger) Rankin of Ogallala.&nbsp; 4 Grandsons; Shane (Jaime) Cundall of Windsor, CO, Andy (Stef) Cole of Ogallala, Kyle (Shannon) Rankin of Omaha, Bryan (Yuri) Cole of Ogallala, 4 Granddaughters; Danielle (Jon Paul) Burden of Severance, CO, Angela (Ryan) Segelke of Minden, NE, Elisabeth Jones of Kyle, TX, Belle Cundall of Round Rock, TX, and 13 great grandchildren.&nbsp; His Stepchildren; Kenneth (Nancy) Bruckner, Mike (Dianne) Bruckner, Lynn (Julie) Bruckner.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jean Cundall in 2007.&nbsp; Also, his brother Glen, in 1998, and Sister Ruth, in 1968.&nbsp; He would also say at the ripe age of 95, almost all of his old friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 7, 2023, with family meeting friends from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. &nbsp;at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel, Ogallala, NE.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 8, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, NE with Pastor Bobby Brueggeman of The Church of Christ of Ogallala, NE, and Pastor Tim Millikin of the Circle G Cowboy Church of Glendo, WY.

Interment will be in Ogallala Cemetery in Ogallala, NE.

Robert “Bob” Holmes, 62, of Oshkosh passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 29, 2023 at the Regional West Garden County Hospital after a battle with ALS.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2023 at the Oshkosh Wesleyan Church with Pastor Bruce Neal officiating.&nbsp; &nbsp;Burial in the Ogallala Cemetery will be held at a later date.

The funeral service will be streamed live via the Holechek-Bondegard Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/hbfunerals) and available to watch after the service.

Per Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.&nbsp;

Robert was born in Weiser, Idaho and attended grade school and high school there.&nbsp; When he was 18, he joined the Navy and had many exciting experiences visiting the Orient.

After he left the Navy, he had many different jobs and interests.&nbsp; He worked for the cable company, did cooking in several restaurants, but his dad convinced him to be his co-driver with May Trucking.&nbsp; He enjoyed traveling the 48 states and working with his dad.

In 1987, he married and had 2 daughters.&nbsp; While married he moved to Ogallala and within the first year there he got his LPN from Mid-Plains Community College and worked at several nursing homes in the area.&nbsp; After a few years he returned to truck driving with Hinz Trucking.&nbsp;

1999 to 2009 was a period of wandering and discovery, then he returned to the Good Life in Nebraska and went to work at Regional West Garden County Nursing Home.&nbsp; He was devoted to his work and patients.&nbsp; He kept a bowl of chocolate kisses to brighten the residents’ days.

He loved his daughters and grandsons and shared many holidays together.&nbsp; Bob enjoyed living in the country and all 6 of his farm cats.

He will be missed by all his family and friends.&nbsp;

He is survived by his daughters: Sarah (Kyle) Sybrant and Ruth (Eric) Mecham; son, Jason Holmes; 3 grandsons, Leon and Kaleb Sybrant and Cyler Mecham; mother, Valita Johnson; brothers, Jeff and Scott Holmes; sister, Rhonda Cudaback; close friend and companion, Pam Raymer and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.&nbsp;

Malvory Marie Shankland, 84, died Monday, November&nbsp;27, 2023&nbsp;at Highland Park Care Center with her family at her side.&nbsp;

Malvory was born August 27, 1939 in Alliance, Nebraska to Jesse and Malvory (Zobel) Watson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was raised first north of Alliance and then&nbsp;on the family ranch on Angora Hilltop. She graduated from Bridgeport High School. Malvory married James “Jim” Shankland July 8, 1960. She considered him her best friend and they held hands as they walked or sat in their chairs to the day that she died.&nbsp;

They started their family on Jim's family ranch south of&nbsp;Ashby in July 1960. Next moving to Alliance and then permanently&nbsp;to Hyannis in&nbsp;1968.&nbsp;They raised three children Gary, Shari and Joe.&nbsp;

In Hyannis she worked at the Bank of Hyannis (where she started their first computer electronic banking system), Grant County Treasurer and Clerk's&nbsp;Offices and retired from Dredla's&nbsp;Grocery. She also&nbsp;spent countless hours dispatching and coordinating with crews of PREMA who&nbsp;Jim worked with for many years.&nbsp;Once Jim moved into construction she also helped him for many hours both in the shop and on building sites. She was fearless and had no issue doing finishing&nbsp;work or shingling houses. She even helped shingle a barn which included placing the ridge cap.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was very active in her church Swede Valley Lutheran which became Shepherd of the Hills in Hyannis. She sponsored,&nbsp;with Jim, the Lutheran youth group for many years.&nbsp;

She was the mother to many children besides her own, always welcoming everyone to her table&nbsp;or house. She spent many blizzards cooking for friends of her children stuck in town. She was known for providing hugs, support, and advice to many that just needed an ear or a shoulder.&nbsp;

She prided herself on being there for her entire family which included 30+ nieces and nephews. She spent days in hospitals supporting her family through many illnesses and injuries. She cooked multiple hundreds of cakes and cookies to give to people of the community.

Things that may not be known is that she enjoyed fast cars which&nbsp;included street racing in her 20’s. She was a crack shot with a pistol, was accomplished at woodworking, was a writer and penned the verses to one hymn with Pastor Lloyd Lenz.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law Jeanie Shankland, sisters Betty Grant, Mary Ann Blackstone, Alice Twombly, Bonnie Egan, and Ilene Christensen, brothers George, Jesse, Dan, Bill and Jack Watson, brother-in-law’s Dick and Bob Shankland.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband of 63+ years Jim Shankland of Hyannis, children Gary Shankland of Bassett, Shari Shankland Redler of Lincoln, Joe (Craig) Shankland of Denver, Colorado. Granddaughters Jayde, Malvory and Rhegan; Grandsons Payton (Zoe) and Alex, as well as great-granddaughter Cheznie.

Memorial services will be at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Hyannis&nbsp;on Monday December 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.&nbsp; Pastor Jonathan Oetting will officiate. The family feels that casual dress is appropriate. Interment will be at a future date with family at Nebraska Veterans&nbsp;Cemetery at Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Memorials may be made to the Grant County Rescue in Hyannis.

Malvory Marie Shankland (1939 - 2023)

Gregory D. Allen, aged 51, of Arnold, passed away on November 26, 2023 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. He was born on July 12, 1972, to Arleata Joan and Harold Duane Allen in Salina, Kansas. He graduated from Cameron High School in 1991 in Cameron, Missouri.

On September 9, 1995, Greg married Rebecca (Lowrey) Chessmore. To this marriage, six children were born: Brittanya, Geoffery, Brooklynn, Gillian, Brenden and Gwendolen Allen, giving Greg’s oldest son, Dakota, six younger siblings. The couple divorced in October 2012.

During his life, Greg joined the military and moved from Missouri and Nebraska numerous times. He worked many jobs and claimed the title “jack of all trades”, however, the most memorable job was working for his grandfather, Wilbur and Uncle Steve buying used Levi jeans. &nbsp; Greg enjoyed fishing and camping with his children. He also enjoyed the holidays with his children, his favorite being Halloween, the same as his mother's. &nbsp;He was always willing to go out of his way to help friends and family as much as he could. If you needed a place to sleep or eat, he would happily open his door to you.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents; son, Geoffery; sister, Trina; two uncles; his paternal and maternal grandparents; and two cousins.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Dakota Turner of Arnold, Brittanya Allen of North Platte, Brooklynn Allen of North Platte, Gillian (Brady) Filyaw of North Platte, Brenden Allen of Phoenix, AZ, and Gwendolen Allen of North Platte; granddaughters, Jasmine, Lyla, Maxine, Bonnie, Leola; two granddaughters on the way, Abigail coming in January, and a baby girl coming in April; grandsons, Lee, Greyson, Blake, and Wyatt; aunts, and many cousins.

The couple divorced in October 2012.During his life, Greg joined the military and moved from Missouri and Nebraska numerous times. He worked many jobs and claimed the title “jack of all trades”, however, the most memorable job was working for his grandfather, Wilbur and Uncle Steve buying used Levi jeans. &nbsp; Greg enjoyed fishing and camping with his children. He also enjoyed the holidays with his children, his favorite being Halloween, the same as his mother's. &nbsp;He was always willing to go out of his way to help friends and family as much as he could. Donald R. Nelson, 78, a lifelong Keith County resident, passed away November 27, 2023, at North Platte.

Don was born October 16, 1945, at Ogallala, Nebraska, to Raymond and Margaret (Christensen) Nelson. He graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1964 and went directly to the farm, where his heart always remained.

Don's passion was farming. He was smart and industrious, wearing many hats over the years, from inventor, electrician, welder, and mechanic, to name a few. Don had the heart of a teacher and mentor. There seemed to be an appointed season for joking and orneriness, rigidity, hard work, and one for faith and tenderness in his life, and with age and illness came a more profound love and appreciation for the bonds of family.

Never having children of his own, Don always had a special fondness for his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed taking drives, sometimes with unexpected destinations, but with an appreciation for the ride and the company that tagged along. Some of his most cherished moments would come later in life, when he'd return to the farm on Sundays, where he spent time with his great nephew, Pete, and his family, eating, visiting, and capping the day off with a drive for ice cream.

Though his last three years were filled with trials, they were also illuminated with blessings. Don enjoyed the retired life, enjoyed a renewed appreciation for family, experienced the harvest from the driver's seat of the combine, and even got a peak through the window at a greater harvest that was to come.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ray (Donna) Nelson, Norm, and Dave Nelson, and sister-in-law Joan Nelson.

Donald Nelson (1945-2023)

Sharolyn Hope “Shary” Boon was born October 11, 1945 at home on the school section in Southeast Dundy County, Nebraska to William Kermit and Opal (Lemon) Humphreys. She peacefully departed this life on November 25, 2023 at Papillion Manor in Papillion, Nebraska. She was 78 years of age.&nbsp;

Shary along with her four siblings grew up farming, raising cattle, feeding chickens and milking cows. Sometimes the girls would carry a hoe to protect themselves from the rattlesnakes when bringing in the cows. When school was in session they would stay in their grandfather’s basement in Max, Nebraska and return to the farm on the weekends. Shary was the youngest of the five children.

Shary graduated from Max High School as salutatorian with the class of 1963. She went on to post-graduate studies at McCook Community College where she met her first husband Jerry Jones. Their union was blessed with three children.

Following the birth of their third child, Shary and her family moved back to the family farm north of Parks, Nebraska. Shary shortly thereafter started a career selling Avon beauty products and then went on to a career with the United States Postal Service delivering mail on a rural route. In 1987, the family moved to Max, Nebraska where Shary became a Postmaster until her retirement in 2014.

Shary was a dedicated mother and grandmother, never missing an event, game or program. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Max Community Club. She enjoyed having a cold “Coca Cola”, eating ice cream and playing bingo. Shary loved to joke around with all of her friends and family at Papillion Manor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lyle and Levoine; and husband, Ralph Boon. Survivors include her children, Kirk (Paula) Jones of Cheyenne, WY, Kimberly Lynn (Mark) Sutherland of Cozad, and Kent Jones (Kris) of Cozad; 8 grandchildren, Mitchell (Jeanie), Joshua (Ricky), Brady (Victoria), Bryce Elizabeth (Trever), Bryton (Olivia), Gage, Mayla Lynn and Ryan; 6 great grandchildren, Cameron, Taylor, Ryan, Jackson, Khallen and Annabelle; her older brother and sister, Merril (Sylvia) Humphreys of Imperial, NE; and Ila Foster of Omaha, NE; as well as many other extended family and friends.

Celeste was married in 2008 to Jamie Ray Bates in Grand Island, NE. &nbsp;She loved singing, writing music, and playing the guitar. &nbsp;Celeste also enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband Jamie, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. &nbsp;She was an ordained minister in the Progressive Universal Life Church and was always known as the peacemaker in her family. &nbsp;She never met a stranger and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Celeste’s memory are her husband of 15 years, Jamie; mother and stepfather, Deloris and Marvin Brainard of Fremont; daughter, Alissa Fields; sons, Forrest Fields and Tobias Bates all of Hamlet; grandson, Octivias Paxson of Hamlet; a sister, Cheryl; a brother, Brad; and several nieces, nephews; cousins; and beloved friends.&nbsp;

Celeste Nanette Dryden-Bates (1965-2023)

Dixie G. Riley, 87, of Chappell passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Dixie Anna Guenin was born on April 27, 1936, to Walter H. and Hazel M. (Hedlund) Guenin. She was the youngest of 3, with older siblings Jacque and Burt. Dixie spent her childhood on the family farm in Garden County, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at Berea Lutheran Church.&nbsp;

She attended grade school in a one-room school house at District 5 in Garden County and then graduated from Deuel County High School with the class of 1953. Following high school, Dixie attended Colorado Women’s College where she received her Associate of Arts Degree on May 25, 1955.&nbsp;

After completing school, she returned home where she taught school at District #39 in Deuel County, when she happened to meet the love of her life, Willis Blaine Riley of Haxtun, CO. They were united in marriage on January 14, 1956, at The Methodist Church in Chappell.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Following “I Do,” Dixie became a dedicated business partner with Willis as they owned and operated Riley Truck Lines. Dixie was the dispatcher, keeping Willis and the trucks on the road.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Along with the trucks, she was a full-time mother to 5: Patrick Blaine, Susan Marie, John Walter, Allison Ann and Daniel Andrew. She would pack the kids into the station wagon and haul them all over to activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was a lifelong resident of the Chappell area and was very active in the community. Dixie was an active member at the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 10 years and was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. If there was ever a blizzard, Dixie was always one of the first responders with the Red Cross.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dixie worked as the librarian at Chappell Memorial Library and Art Gallery for 24 years, from February 1988 to April 2012. Dixie loved her job as the local librarian. She enjoyed all the activities and events, and all the cherished friendships.&nbsp;

For the past 15 years, Dixie has shared her life with her best friend and loyal companion, Zoey. The highlight of her day was taking Zoey on a walk around Lake Chappell. Dixie loved doing crosswords, water coloring, and reading books. She also loved to gather with the ladies for an afternoon of Bridge. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, supporting them in their various activities but most of all bringing them along for an afternoon at the library.&nbsp;&nbsp;

All who knew Dixie felt the spark of life she brought. She was tiny yet had so much personality. No matter where you saw her, she had a smile outlined in vibrant pink lipstick. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who will remain a warm memory in all our hearts.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is survived by her children: Susan Riley of Chappell, John and wife Sharon Riley of Sidney, Allison and husband Bob&nbsp;Cenkner&nbsp;of Lodgepole, Daniel and wife Christy Riley of Chappell; 5 grandchildren: Hannah Riley, Lane and wife Katelin Riley, Wyatt Riley, Vanessa and husband Matthew Wood, and Cooper Riley. 2 great grandchildren: Clayton John and Miles Guenin Riley. Dixie Riley (1936-2023)

Robert “Bob” Osterman age 77 of Hyannis, NE passed away November 21, 2023, at the Highland Park Home in Alliance, NE.

Memorial Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held on June 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM Mountain Time at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Alliance, NE. Memorials are suggested to the Hyannis Fire Department.

Robert Vincent Osterman was born September 12, 1946, in Omaha, NE to Stanley “Fritz” and Catherine (Brennan) Osterman. Bob attended and graduated in 1964 from Kilgore High School. On April 1965, Bob enlisted in the US Army, and was Honorable discharged January 27, 1968.&nbsp; After the Army, Robert lived in California, Colorado, and then returned to Kilgore. He worked for Cherry County. Bob met Marvel Anthony; the couple was united in marriage on December 15, 1978.

Bob worked for the Hayward Ranch for 27 years before having to retire due to Parkinson Disease. The couple moved to Hyannis in 2005. Due to his declining health Bob moved to the Pioneer Memorial Care Home in Mullen and then to the Highland Parks Home in Alliance.

Bob enjoyed the outdoors fishing, hunting, and playing cards. He was active in the Catholic Church, American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents “Fritz” and Catherine, and a sister Rita.

Bob is survived by his wife Marvel of Hyannis, daughter Marie Osterman of Hyannis, granddaughter Neva Ducker (Ty Crabtree) of Norfolk, four siblings John Jack Osterman of Bentonville, AR, Joan Podsednik, of Kansas, Blane Osterman of Lincoln, and Bruce Osterman of Sibley, IA.

Memorials are suggested to the Hyannis Fire Department.Robert Vincent Osterman was born September 12, 1946, in Omaha, NE to Stanley “Fritz” and Catherine (Brennan) Osterman. Bob attended and graduated in 1964 from Kilgore High School. On April 1965, Bob enlisted in the US Army, and was Honorable discharged January 27, 1968.&nbsp; After the Army, Robert lived in California, Colorado, and then returned to Kilgore. He worked for Cherry County. Bob met Marvel Anthony; the couple was united in marriage on December 15, 1978.Bob worked for the Hayward Ranch for 27 years before having to retire due to Parkinson Disease. The couple moved to Hyannis in 2005. Due to his declining health Bob moved to the Pioneer Memorial Care Home in Mullen and then to the Highland Parks Home in Alliance.Bob enjoyed the outdoors fishing, hunting, and playing cards. He was active in the Catholic Church, American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus.Bob was preceded in death by his parents “Fritz” and Catherine, and a sister Rita.Bob is survived by his wife Marvel of Hyannis, daughter Marie Osterman of Hyannis, granddaughter Neva Ducker (Ty Crabtree) of Norfolk, four siblings John Jack Osterman of Bentonville, AR, Joan Podsednik, of Kansas, Blane Osterman of Lincoln, and Bruce Osterman of Sibley, IA.

Edythe "Ann" Calkins, 88, of Grant, passed away peacefully November 24, 2023, at her home in Grant.

Ann was born May 4, 1935, at Lewellen, Nebraska, to Henry and Wilma Beckius. She attended school at Keystone and Ogallala.

Ann married the love of her life, Phillip Calkins, on December 28, 1972, at the Congregational Church in Grant. Together, they built a life filled with joy, wonderful memories, and six children: Teresa, Galen, Douglas, Randy, Kimberly, and Shelly.

Ann worked at TRW in Ogallala for several years before opening Ann's Lounge in downtown Grant, which she operated for nearly 40 years. Ann loved to travel, and after selling the restaurant in 2002, she enjoyed 'seeing the sights' much more often. She was an ardent supporter of her children and grandchildren and loved Grant Plainsmen athletics to the core. Ann was the type of grandma who loved being immersed in the activities of her family.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Wilma Beckius; daughter, Shelly Hatch; son-in-law, Kevin Hatch; her brothers, Donald Beckius and his wife Gloria, and Bernard Beckius; in-laws, Dayton Beckius, Ruth Troxel and Larry Troxel.

Survivors include her children, Teresa (Patrick) Swanson, Galen (Terry) Styskal, Douglas (Cynthia) Styskal, Randy (Brenda) Styskal, and Kimberly (Richard Underwood) Calkins; grandchildren, Shawna (Todd Keatley) Washburn, Sharon Washburn, Cheryl Goedert, Kyle (Megan) Hatch, Zachery (Corey Goodman) Styskal, Colby Styskal, Dustin Scholl, Alicia Rye, Jacob (Kimberly) Milner, Lance Milner, and Angela Robinson. Ann was also a proud great-grandmother to Chaz (Samantha) and Micah Cox, Cash Goedert, Tyler and Kersten Larson, Bryce Washburn, Kinsley and Knox Hatch, Ryder and Rhett Robinson, Troy Rager, Danykha and Richard Backus; along with four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Beckius; in-laws, Cheryl Beckius, and Lee (Carol) Calkins; special family friend, Erin Chrisman; along with many other relatives and friends.

Ann Calkins (1935-2023)

Betty&nbsp;Herrick peacefully passed away at home in North Platte surrounded by her family on November 23, 2023, at the age of 91.

Betty was born April 10, 1932, in the mining town of Bingham Canyon, UT. &nbsp;Her parents, R.J. and Donna Contratto, did their best to raise Betty and her siblings, Don and Dottie. &nbsp;Growing up, the family lived in the Knight Hotel and this gave Betty the chance to meet people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds; Big Helen was one of her favorites. &nbsp;Betty had a happy childhood full of adventures and mischief; "Every day was interesting and exciting" to Betty.

After grade school, Betty attended the consolidated junior high in the nearby town of Copperton. &nbsp;Public schooling was fine for Betty and she behaved fairly well but when it was time for high school, Betty was sent to a Catholic girl's school over the border in Idaho, leaving her friends, family and home behind. &nbsp;By the time she was 16, Betty met Clair Curtis (an older man of 19) and threw common sense to the wind as they ran off and eloped. &nbsp;Betty was determined to make the marriage work, but with three young children and years of struggles, it came to an end.

Betty eventually moved to Salt Lake City, UT, with the kids. &nbsp;She took a job at a Woolworth store, working in the coffee shop. &nbsp;She became manager of the fountain and lunch counter and liked her job (especially since she was "boss"). &nbsp;While working Betty was introduced to the new head store manager, Norman Herrick. &nbsp;Norm was just what Betty needed. &nbsp;He was divorced and had sons of his own so he knew the importance of family. &nbsp;In 1963, Norm and Betty married in an Idaho town. &nbsp;They had good times and lots of laughter for over 65 years.

Because of Norm's job with Woolworth's, the family moved to Montana then California until Norm wanted to be closer to his boys and family in Nebraska. &nbsp;He and Betty moved to North Platte where they settled and worked in various businesses. &nbsp;They bought Elletts Tastee Treat, remodeled it into "Betty's Tastee Treat" and operated it for many years. &nbsp;Betty later worked in the hospital kitchen. &nbsp;She never minded hard work and loved visiting with others. &nbsp;

Betty did not grow up with any meaningful experiences of worship but that too changed when she met Norm. &nbsp;He took Betty to church and there she discovered the real meaning of religion, answered the altar call, and was saved. &nbsp;She embraced salvation and the Christian way of life. &nbsp;Betty's faith gave her the strength to persevere, forgive, and to love. She was so proud to receive her G.E.D. at age 68.

Betty was a member of Grace Community Bible Church. &nbsp;She could always be recognized by her bright, colorful clothes and her joyous laugh. &nbsp;She will be remembered for her love of those around her and her positive, faithful spirit.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Contratto, and father and stepmother, R.J. and Clara Contratto; her brother, Don Contratto; sister, Dottie Warner; her daughter, Sharlene McLaughlin; stepchildren, J. Herrick, Steve Herrick and Zelda Herrick; and grandchildren, Brittany Sims and Katie Herrick.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Norman; her children, Daniel Curtis (Julie) of Columbus and Suzanne Anderson (Steven) of Salt Lake City; step daughter-in-law, Connie Herrick of Ft. Lupton, CO; 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, other family, and her special friends.&nbsp;

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Grace Community Bible Church. &nbsp;Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.&nbsp; 

Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and with family greeting from 4-6 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Herrick (1932-2023)

&nbsp; It is with great sadness we announce the death of well-known entertainer and singer- songwriter Jim Salestrom.&nbsp; Jim passed away on Wednesday, November 22 surrounded by loved ones at his home in Arvada, CO after a decade-long battle with cancer. He was 67 years old.

James Kevin Salestrom impacted countless lives throughout his long and successful musical career. To his family he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He was born February 20, 1956 in Omaha, NE to Virgil and Janice Salestrom. He is survived by his wife Pamela Dailer Salestrom, his daughter Casey, son-in-law Brandon Freeman and son James Salestrom Jr. of Nashville, TN. The true joy of his life was his grandson - Casey and Brandon's son, Thomas James. Jim also dearly loved his brothers Chuck and Tom Salestrom and their families.

To his fans Jim was a joy to listen to, a world class singer-songwriter and an Emmy winning performer. His love of music started at the early age of 7 when he got his first guitar. As he got older, he started writing songs, and formed several groups in Nebraska with his brother Chuck. The most notable of these was Timberline, which further launched his career.

He played guitar and sang in Dolly Parton's band over the course of decades. Her shows took him all over the world. Jim also had a close relationship with John Denver and performed with him throughout the years. He shared his love of life and positive spirit through his music. He worked with countless wonderful musicians and performed for 5 U.S. Presidents, and numerous members of the U.S. Supreme Court.

He treated everyone with love and respect. Jim was known for his humor, infectious smile, positive outlook on life and a gift to make everyone feel special. He sang like an angel, and luckily his music will endure long past his lifetime. In one of his final notes Jim said, "I am eternally grateful for all of you, and it's not "goodbye", it's just "see you later". James "Jim" Salestrom (1956-2023)

AC Rowan, age 88, of Lamar, CO passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Community Hospital in McCook, NE.

AC was born July 23, 1935 in Las Animas, CO to parents Archie Cyde and Ada (Barnes) Rowan. He was one of two children.&nbsp; Following high school, AC attended both Lamar Community College and Colorado State University on livestock judging scholarships.

AC was a member of the Army National Guard, completing six months basic training in Arkansas where he proudly bought his first good baseball glove, which he used throughout his career and kept near him until the end of his life. He traveled the country playing fastpitch softball with his best friends and was eventually inducted into the Colorado Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame. AC spent numerous years coaching youth baseball and traveled many miles taking his teams from one end of the state to the other. He also refereed high school basketball for many years.

Though farming and raising sheep were his main vocation, AC also worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier, a job he dearly loved. He especially enjoyed visiting with people he delivered mail to. For many years, AC rang bells for the Salvation Army Christmas Campaign. He always enjoyed wearing funny hats to entertain the kids that would come by and put money in the kettle.

AC’s main love with his family. On November 20, 1960, he married the love of his life, Bonnie (Bowles) Rowan in Wiley, CO. The couple was blessed with two children. He and Bonnie traveled together and worked together on the farm. He also greatly enjoyed his three grandkids.

Many hours were spent on batting practice with all three grandkids. There was nothing he wouldn’t do or any distance too far to take them to events or to travel to watch them participate. He loved being around them and making them laugh, which he was doing up until his final days.
