&nbsp; Rodney Ray Longmore, 70, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Callaway Good Life Center in Callaway, Nebraska.

He was born on July 9, 1953, in Sutherland, Nebraska, to Clarence Lewis and Ruby May (Matson) Longmore. His family moved to Elsie, Nebraska, where he graduated from High School. After high school, Rodney moved to Cozad, where he began his career working for Tenneco-Monroe. He dedicated over 30 years to the company before ultimately retiring. On August 31, 1974, Rodney was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dorothy Ballenger in Overton, Nebraska. Three children were blessed to this union: April, Donna, and Tony. They made their home in Cozad for many years until 2019, when Rodney moved to Callaway, Nebraska.

Rodney enjoyed spending his time outdoors where he could go fishing and spend many hours tending to his garden. If he wasn't outside, you could find him at home, working on his cross stitch, reading mystery and true crime novels, watching westerns or his favorite show, Wheel of Fortune. Everyone knew not to bother Rodney once Wheel of Fortune was on. He loved to joke around with his family, and enjoyed making people laugh and smile.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, April (Matt) Dinges of Cozad, Donna (Jermey) Siemering of Cozad, and Tony (Robin) Longmore of Grand Island; grandchildren, Christopher (Alexis) Dinges, Jasper Dinges, Caden Dinges, Karly (Dakota) Pooschke, Trestian (Tori) Siemering, Taylore (Makayla) Siemering, Austin Longmore, Zachary Longmore, and Hannah Kubik; great-grandchildren, Harry, Harper, Braylynn and Oakley, as well as extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Longmore, and sister, Wanda Ballenger.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, with Pastor Dean Haidle, officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Philip Ewert (1936-2024)

Connie Lou (Loghry) Dye, 84, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Linden Court.

Connie was born on January 4, 1940 to Max and Nellie (Pulley) Loghry in Maywood, NE. &nbsp;She was raised on a farm south of Curtis and attended grade school at District 91 in Frontier County. &nbsp;She attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, graduating with the class of 1957.

After graduation, Connie came to North Platte to attend the School of Commerce. &nbsp;Connie met Dallis Dye at a Hadley Barrett dance in Sutherland, NE, and they were married on April 24, 1960, in Curtis. &nbsp;Two children, Rodney and Nancy, were born to this union. &nbsp;They made their home in North Platte except for living in McCook from 1963 to 1969.

Connie worked for Dr. C. F. Heider, Sr. and Jr., and worked as a teacher’s aide at Adams Junior High School. &nbsp;In 1977, Dallis and Connie bought Cohagen Transfer and Storage. &nbsp;In 1981 Connie went to work for the family business. &nbsp;Dallis and Connie loved to square dance and did lots of camping. &nbsp;They traveled in their motor home as much as time allowed spending some time in Apache Junction, AZ. &nbsp;She was a member of the RSVP, and enjoyed going to Branson, MO every September with friends for several years. &nbsp;They were Husker fans who never missed a home game if possible.

Connie was preceded in death by her husband Dallis in 2013, her parents, a sister Leona and husband Ivan Boone, her in laws Orley and Edith (Baxter) Dye, a sister-in-law Carolyn Dye, and a great granddaughter Leyha Bartels.

Connie is survived by a son, Rod (Crystal) Dye of North Platte; daughter, Nancy (Terry) McNew of North Platte; six grandchildren, Sara (Kyle) Baker of North Platte, Jennifer (Troy) Bayne of Hershey, Melissa (Shane) Blackburn of North Platte, Josh (Jane) Dye of Sutherland, Nicholas (Catie) McNew, and Brandi (Justin) Erickson both of North Platte; eleven great grandchildren, three great-great grandsons; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in Maywood Cemetery. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, June 10th at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Connie Lou Dye (1940-2024)

Jake Harrison VanHorn Sr., born March 13, 1971, died on June 2, 2024, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado, after a long battle with diabetes.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home in Chappell with Pastor Martin Fleming officiating.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home in Chappell is serving the VanHorn family.

Jake grew up in Western Montana and loved to be outside. He rodeoed in high school and played football and wrestled. He was a true and loyal friend with a goofy sense of humor about him. He went to horseshoeing school in Montana and worked on ranches. Being a cowboy was his true calling. He loved working with horses and cattle. He moved to Grand Island, Nebraska, to work in a feedlot, thinking the weather would be warmer. He did not realize what humidity was. After that, he thought he should have kept going south!

He did not end up going south, though. Nor did he travel back north. He stayed in Central Nebraska. There he met good friends and eventually moved out to Western Nebraska where, in 2001, he met Patsy Baker. Later, on September 5, 2004, Jake and Patsy were married. &nbsp;Together, they moved to Gillette, Wyoming, where their daughter, Bailey, was born. Not long after that, they moved back to Ogallala, Nabraska.

Jake worked at some different jobs until health issues got in the way. He then started his own leather shop. This was a dream of his since long before he and Patsy met. He ran his own business with the help of family for 10 years. Jake and Patsy welcomed their son, Jack Jr., during this time.

Jake was forced to close his shop as his diabetes worsened.

He enjoyed hunting, working with leather, and hanging out with family. He loved his kids, and wanted to show them all the things in life that he could. He wanted them to learn all the lessons the easy way, instead of the hard way - how he had learned them.

Jake is preceded in death by his father, Jack Harrison VanHorn; stepfather, Jerry Gasho; grandparents, James and Gladys VanHorn, Chester and Rose Gasho, Charles Keith, and Ada Moore; and his nephew, Bryer Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy VanHorn; his kids, Bailey and Jack VanHorn; his mother, Linda Gasho; sister-in-law, Lisa (Gabe) Wilson; nieces, Brianna and Annlyn Wilson; nephew, Truman (Caroline) Wilson; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Starla Nadine Sherman Jackson was born January 24, 1969, in Valentine, NE to Hugh Loren and Roberta Jean (Lawlis) Sherman. Being the last born from a family of nine, Starla was blessed with creativity and a strong work ethic. She attended college at Colby Community College in Colby, KS, and studied for a degree in veterinary tech. However, she married before finishing her degree.

Starla was a person with a very generous heart and loved all things animals, especially horses. Horses were always a part of her life whether she was riding or caring for them. Her consideration for others was evident in her baking and cooking skills, and then giving away to others. Other interests and hobbies she loved were quilting, crafting, and reading books. She always had a large and beautiful garden that she used for giving away produce and canning many jars for later use. Starla had a very creative heart and at one time wrote short articles of interest for the Fence Post magazine.

Her love for horses and cattle was evident as she mostly worked for feedlots wherever her home was established.

Starla is survived by daughter Jamie (Will) Huston from Torrington, WY, sons Brett Menuey of Washington, and Rowdy Jackson of Litchfield, two grandchildren Danielle and Montgomery Huston, siblings Frances Vasa of Arthur, Myra Boje of Hampton, Neva Sherman of Minnesota, and Sally Ruelas of Wisconsin, sisters-in-laws Helen Sherman of Valentine and Jane Sherman of Valentine.

Starla was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Roberta Sherman, husband Jerry Jackson, son Taylor Finley, and brothers Gary, Blaine, Galen, and Frank Sherman.

Lavonne Rae Baker, formerly of Callaway, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Citizen's Medical Center in Colby, Kansas at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 14 days.&nbsp;

She was born on April 17, 1937, in Callaway, Nebraska to Billie Dale and Vera M (Lange) Strong. Lavonne attended school in Callaway, Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1954. On October 17, 1955 she married Roland (Ronnie) Baker. They lived in Grand Island &amp; Gothenburg, Nebraska until they moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1965. &nbsp;They enjoyed dancing and Colorado Buffalo Football for many years. &nbsp;In 2020, she moved to Kansas where her youngest daughter lives. Lavonne always had a smile and was spunky and friendly to everyone she met. Lavonne is deeply missed but no longer in pain. &nbsp;We love you Mom, Grandma (Granny) until we meet again.

John Scott Gibson, age 79, Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away on May 31, 2024, at the Community Hospital in McCook, NE.

John was born on March 1, 1945, to John and Dorothy (Kelley) Gibson in Scottsbluff, NE. John attended school in McCook, NE.&nbsp;

On June 17, 1963, John joined the Marine Corps and proudly served our country until 1966, serving two terms in Vietnam.&nbsp;

On August 23, 1965, John married Collen L. Fisher.&nbsp; To this union their daughter, Shelley, was born.

John married Judy Ann Gebauer on August 9, 1974, together they raised their two sons Rick and Curtis in Fort Morgan, CO, where John resided until Judy’s death in 2021.&nbsp;

John entered the oil field business shortly after returning from Vietnam working his way up from entry level field work to ownership of oil field related businesses, and eventually participating in oil wells and mineral ownership.

John enjoyed traveling to various places but even more so when he was able to take family and friends alongside. Mexico will forever have a special place in the hearts of John’s family and friends.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, racing cars, collecting and hunting arrowheads, and collecting guns and coins.&nbsp;

John will always be remembered for his generosity. He had a very big heart and was always willing to help those in need. From serving in the military, donating to multiple charities, to helping his friends and family.&nbsp;

John was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy; and his wife, Judy.

Marlynn K. Gerloff, age 87 of Frisco, TX (formerly of Ogallala, NE) passed away at Stonemere Rehabilitation in Frisco, TX.

Marlynn Kay Gerloff was born in Ogallala, NE to Herman and Irene (Purdy) Huff, she attended Ogallala Schools and then went on to attend Purdue University to pursue her bachelor's degree in Interior Design.

On October 21st, 1956 she married Eldean Dale Gerloff in the Methodist Church of Ogallala. Marlynn was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family.

She was involved with 4H and enjoyed different types of theater shows. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, and playing cards; especially bridge, but nothing compared to her love for spending time with her family.

A memorial service has been scheduled for Friday, August 9, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala, NE with Reverend Albert Bader officiating.

She is preceded in death by her, father, Herman Huff; mother, Irene Huff, and husband Eldean Gerloff.

Marlynn is survived by her three daughters, Diane Johnson, Sheryl (Rich) Marshall, and Kathy (Purnell) White; sister Rhonda (Norm) Duba; one niece; one nephew; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Marlynn Kay Gerloff (1936-2024)

Darrill Lee Crouch, age 85, of West Des Moines, IA (formerly of Broken Bow) passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Arbor Springs Dementia Care in West Des Moines, IA.

He was born on March 15, 1939, to Merrill and Marie (Nixon) Crouch in Arnold, Nebraska. The family lived on a farm near Arnold until moving to their ranch in Blaine County in 1944. The family moved to Burwell in 1959. Darrill attended grade school in Blaine County and high school in Taylor, NE graduating with the class of 1957.

&nbsp;On June 26, 1960, he married Shirley Hesselgesser in Burwell, and to this union two children were born: a son, Douglas Ray, and daughter, Teresa Lynn. In 1966, the family moved to Broken Bow where Darrill worked for Becton-Dickinson, retiring in 1999. Having grown up on a ranch and working for ranchers in his early years, Darrill always had a love for raising cattle. After retiring from B-D, he raised cattle full-time. For several years he raised and sold herd bulls. As his health began to fail, he fully retired in 2020. &nbsp;ln November 2023, Darrill and Shirley moved to West Des Moines, IA to seek skilled dementia care and be closer to family.

Darrill's family was always very important to him, and he loved every opportunity he had to spend time with them. John (Jerry) Ahrens, 93, left his earthly body and assumed his incorruptible heavenly body the afternoon of May 31, 2024. &nbsp;Jerry was surrounded by his immediate family and special friends as he took his last breaths.

John (Jerry) William Ahrens was born on July 4, 1930 in Scottsbluff, NE. &nbsp; He and younger sister Jane were the children of John F. and Margaret Ahrens of Arnold, NE. &nbsp;Except for a couple of years in Lusk, WY, Jerry grew up on a farm south of Arnold where he attended the Mackley country school through the 8th&nbsp;grade, then attended and graduated from Arnold High School. &nbsp; Jerry first met Darb (Darlene) Spencer at a house party in Broken Bow. &nbsp;Jerry was dancing with a young lady and as he bent her back, he spotted Darb as she walked into the room and promptly dropped his date on the furnace grate. &nbsp; Jerry and Darb were married on New Year’s Eve, 1948, and proceeded to spend their entire 2-week honeymoon snowed in at the Spencer farm with Jerry’s new in-laws. &nbsp;Jerry and Darb lived and farmed 9 miles south of Arnold, NE where they raised three children: Cindy, John, and Carla. &nbsp;In 1984, they retired from farming and moved into Arnold. &nbsp;Jerry and Darb shared a heart of compassion for anyone in need. &nbsp;It was not uncommon for Jerry and Darb to have someone, related or not, living in their home for weeks and even months at a time while they ministered to their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. &nbsp;People were the focus of Jerry’s life and as a result, he positively impacted a host of individuals who were blessed by his friendship and humor.

Jerry is preceded in death by Darb, his wife of 62 years and great-grandson Doyle (Dub) Bellew. &nbsp;He is survived by his children, Cindy Ahrens of Sidney, NE, John (Lu Ann) Ahrens of Edgewood, NM, and Carla (John) Huscher of Valley, NE, sister Jane Tucker of Arnold, NE, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.

Jerry Ahrens (1930-2024)

&nbsp;&nbsp; Beverley Grafel passed away at the age of 83 on June 1, 2024 from Endometrial Cancer. &nbsp;She was born in Indianola, Nebraska to Albert and Eva (Hill) Young. &nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Beverley graduated from Indianola High School in 1959. &nbsp; She married Elmore Grafel on June 4, 1961. &nbsp;They bought a house and moved it south of Culbertson in 1964. &nbsp;Here they farmed and raised animals. &nbsp;She bottle fed many baby calves and they raised many pigs. &nbsp;She was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years; she was on the Board of Director for Girl Scouts of Kearney for six years and taught Sunday School for 25 Years. She has been a member of the Immanual Church of Christ in Herndon, Kansas. &nbsp;She was involved in many clubs: the Culbertson Women’s Club, Red Hatters, Women’s Guild, two card clubs and the Foxy Ladies. &nbsp;She was treasurer of UCC memorial fund and treasurer of North Herndon Telephone Company. &nbsp;She worked for Area Agency on Aging for 25 years. &nbsp;Her love was her grandchildren, sewing, visiting with people and her ducks. &nbsp;In her spare time, she made over 6700 potholders and some of them went to other states. &nbsp;She made over 100 quilts and gave some of them to neighbors and friends.&nbsp;

 </figure>&nbsp;&nbsp; Beverley Grafel passed away at the age of 83 on June 1, 2024 from Endometrial Cancer. &nbsp;She was born in Indianola, Nebraska to Albert and Eva (Hill) Young. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Beverley graduated from Indianola High School in 1959. &nbsp; She married Elmore Grafel on June 4, 1961. &nbsp;They bought a house and moved it south of Culbertson in 1964. &nbsp;Here they farmed and raised animals. &nbsp;She bottle fed many baby calves and they raised many pigs. &nbsp;She was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years; she was on the Board of Director for Girl Scouts of Kearney for six years and taught Sunday School for 25 Years. She has been a member of the Immanual Church of Christ in Herndon, Kansas. &nbsp;She was involved in many clubs: the Culbertson Women’s Club, Red Hatters, Women’s Guild, two card clubs and the Foxy Ladies. &nbsp;She was treasurer of UCC memorial fund and treasurer of North Herndon Telephone Company. &nbsp;She worked for Area Agency on Aging for 25 years. &nbsp;Her love was her grandchildren, sewing, visiting with people and her ducks. &nbsp;In her spare time, she made over 6700 potholders and some of them went to other states. &nbsp;She made over 100 quilts and gave some of them to neighbors and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Beverley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Alan Aschoff of Hastings; three grandchildren, Miranda and Connor Brown of Roseland and Krystin Aschoff of Hastings; sisters-in-law, Barbara Grafel, Beaulah Brown and Donna Hoxie; nieces and nephews, Vesta Dack, Shirley Ele, Ron and Lisa Crocker, Mike Herrmann, Deborah and Joseph Blackmore, Tom and Charlotte Crocker, Sheila and Greg Marney, Roma and Richard Sensel, Mike and Elgene Grafel, Jim and Deb Grafel, Ron and Christine Brown, Kim Brown, Dave and Patty Brown, Lisa and Kurt Gerken, Lynn and Joyce Young, Denise Young, Larry and Mary Joe Young, Richard Minnick, Delton and Vickie Young, Dick and Carla Potts, George Mills and Paula Mills.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmore Grafel; two sons, Scott and Tim Grafel; brother and sisters-in-law, Gene and Patty Young, Warren and Helen Young; sisters and brothers-in-law, Naomi and Don Kelly, Elaine and Paul Mills. Beverley "Bev" Grafel (1940-2024)

Regina Bernice Barnes, known affectionately as "Genie," passed away on May 30, 2024 in Kearney, NE. She was born on July 28, 1945, in her hometown of Wahoo, Nebraska to Elbert Palmer and Mahala Palmer (Kuhn).

&nbsp;Growing up in Wahoo, NE was where she spent her childhood years before moving to Hickman, NE to begin her adult life. She had four beautiful children with her first spouse, Charles Eaton. Later, she married the love of her life, Charles “Keith” Barnes. Their devotion to each other was apparent to all. When they would gaze into one another’s eyes, their love was palpable. After meeting, they settled in Imperial, NE. Before her chronic health decline, she cherished the time spent dancing with her true love, Keith. &nbsp;Genie then led a fulfilling life raising her children and always being available to lend an ear and piece of advice to anyone, family or friend, who knocked on the door. &nbsp; Along with this, she worked as a waitress and eventually she went to college to complete her AA in Business. Genie also found happiness in gardening, crocheting and sewing. Many unforgettable family times often included playing games and cards. She will forever be known as the Farkle champion!! &nbsp;

Genie is survived by her sisters; Priscilla McGee and Cynthia Overby, her children; Melissa Foster (Brian), Nicole Eaton, Eric Eaton (Kristy Godsey), and Nancy Shearey (Chad); along with a legacy of 28 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren who will continue to honor her memory.

&nbsp;She is preceded in death by her father Elbert Palmer, mother Mahala Palmer (Kuhn), first husband Charles Eaton, husband Charles Keith Barnes, brother Augustus Palmer, and her niece Stacey Elsasser.

Genie touched the lives of many who she knew with her kindness, humor and selflessness. &nbsp;She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. To all of her family, she will always be known as everybody’s favorite (aunt, cousin, niece, sister etc.). &nbsp;&nbsp;

Alfred E. Lee Raby, 89, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Community Memorial Nursing Home in Burwell, NE. &nbsp;Alfred was born on August 23, 1934 in Gastonia, NC the son of Ralph Jennings and Lura “Polly” (Hensley) Raby.

Alfred entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1954. &nbsp;He boxed while he was in the Air Force and was inducted into the “Carolinas Boxing Hall of Fame” with a combined amateur and professional record of 75 wins, 9 defeats. &nbsp;“He’s got the kind of heart the Lord ought to give every fighter” said renowned amateur boxing coach T.L. McManus. &nbsp;Al loved music and played professionally for most of his life all over the country. &nbsp;He played gigs in small bars and famous venues such as the “Palomino Club” where, in its heyday,&nbsp; many country legends such as George Jones and Willie Nelson hosted events. &nbsp;Al was a true “showman” and loved entertaining people. &nbsp;He had an endless catalog of songs from old country to old rock that he could play from memory. &nbsp;Al married Marie Hawley on September 1, 1975. &nbsp;He was a loving husband, supportive father, and proud grandfather. &nbsp;He loved a good corn boil with his family including a fun-filled competition of who could eat the most ears of sweet corn. &nbsp;He never met a stranger and inspired and impacted so many people in many positive ways through his encouragement and charisma. &nbsp;You could see the joy around him, and he shared it with others. &nbsp;The community of North Platte will surely miss Al “The Rock” Raby. &nbsp;

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Marie; children, Daryl Raby of Gastonia, NC, Luke (Colleen O’Holleran) Raby of Denver, CO, Brandon (Kristine Henningsen) Raby of North Platte, and Misty (Dave) Schottelkotte of North Platte; stepchildren, Wanda (Ernie) Zachry of Stapleton, NE, Dennis (Susan Carracino) Kremer of Spokane, WA, and Rodney (Teri Cairns) Kremer of Bend, OR; grandchildren, Baila Atencio, Jack Raby, Emmett Raby, and Kingston Schottelkotte.&nbsp;

Linda passed away earlier this year on February 25.&nbsp; She was born and raised in Lincoln.

Linda moved to the North Platte area around 1970 with her first husband Thomas Wilcox. &nbsp;They eventually settled in Sutherland, NE for approximately 10 years. After her divorce she moved back to North Platte and married Wayne Johnson. &nbsp;

Linda and Wayne raised thoroughbred racehorses. &nbsp;They were members of the Nebraska Thoroughbred Breeders Association for many years. &nbsp;Over the years they raised 10 horses that went to the track and of those they had 3 stakes winners. &nbsp;After Wayne’s passing in 1997 Linda continued to be active in the North Platte community. &nbsp;She was a volunteer with Hospice, RDAP and CASA. She eventually opened her own non-profit therapeutic riding center, A-Will A-Way riding center, based at her home in North Platte.

There will be a memorial service/celebration of life on Thursday June 6 from 1PM - 3PM at Occasions &nbsp;125 E. N. Lake Road, North Platte, NE

Linda K. (McMichael) Johnson 

Robert "Leroy" Evans, age 87 passed away on May 24, 2024 at his home&nbsp;in&nbsp;Kearney,&nbsp;Nebraska.

&nbsp;Leroy was born August 6, 1936, in Hyannis, Nebraska to Emmerson and Dorothy Evans. He attended school at District #4 through 8th&nbsp;grade. He attended 2 years of high school in Whitman and then went to UNSA at Curtis, Nebraska, where he graduated in 1953. He attended Chadron State College where he graduated with a 2-year business ag. degree. After college he returned to help his father run the family ranch north of Whitman.

&nbsp;On May 29, 1957, he married Delores Mae Geist of Whitman. To this union 5 children were born: Jerry Lee, Timothy Wayne, Teddi Jo, Joy Ann, and Robert Allen.

&nbsp;Leroy enjoyed running and working on the ranch with his kids and grandkids. Besides cattle work, he contracted haying over the years, which gave him the opportunity to hire and work with a lot of young people from all over the United States.

&nbsp;Leroy was proud to serve as Grant County Commissioner from 1972 to 1992 as well as serving on state and national committees. He also served on the District #4 school board, the Whitman Church, and the Cemetery board for several years. He enjoyed being part of the Masons, Eagles, and Eastern Stars.

&nbsp;Upon retiring, the ranch was sold to his granddaughter, Chawnee Grant, keeping it in the family, something Leroy always wanted. He loved watching his grandkids and great-grandkids in all their school and sporting activities. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, sister, and daughter before moving to Kearney where is enjoyed playing pitch and cribbage every day.

&nbsp;He is survived by his wife, Delores, their sons, Jerry (Lonny) of Ainsworth, Timothy (Charlotte) of North Platte, Robert (Rhonda) of Sioux Falls SD, daughters, Teddi of Kearney, and Joy of Omaha. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Wittrup of Cheyenne, WY and sister-in-law Alda Evans of Overland Park, KS, 15 grandkids, 31 great-grandkids, several step grandkids and great-grandkids and many nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents Emmerson and Dorothy Evans, sister and brother-in-law Deloris and Don Anderson, brother Lloyd Evans, brother-in-law Don Wittrup, mother-in-law Alta McIntosh and step-grandson Luke Reimers.

Robert "Leroy" Evans (1936-2024)

&nbsp; Sharon Lucille Walgren was born May 7, 1931 in Edgar, NE to Clair and Ted Voorhees. &nbsp;At the age of 6 the family set up a new household in Wauneta, NE where Ted started the Federal Land Bank. &nbsp;Sharon grew up and attended school in Wauneta graduating from Wauneta High School in 1949. &nbsp;She dated her High School sweetheart throughout their high school years.

 &nbsp;Upon graduating, Sharon went on to attend the University of Nebraska Lincoln majoring in music. &nbsp;She studied for 2 years until deciding to return to Wauneta to marry her high school sweetheart, Robert Walgren on November 11, 1951. &nbsp;The newly wed couple moved to San Diego where Robert enlisted in the Navy. &nbsp;To this union, boys Rex and Scott were born in San Diego, CA. 

&nbsp;Returning to Wauneta after 3 years of service, the couple started their careers in the grocery business building Walgrens Grocery, a staple of the community. &nbsp;Sharon taught music for 1 year at Wauneta High School. &nbsp;She sang for many weddings and funerals throughout the years and was the choir director for Wauneta Global Methodist Church for over 50 years. &nbsp;Her hobbies included playing bridge, singing, poker, and visiting with friends and family. &nbsp;

Sharon is survived by&nbsp;&nbsp;her sons, Rex (Kathy) Scott (Karen); grandchildren, Jamie (Jason) Wiess, Jeremy (Crystal) Walgren,&nbsp;Raenelle (Chris) Thoms;&nbsp;step grandchildren,&nbsp;Michael and Daniel Gardner, Renae Watkins;&nbsp;Carson (Jenna) and Chris (Mandy) Watt; 15 great grandchildren, Jaysek, Jensyn, Weston, Jaylea, Molly, Payton, Cash, Ashton, Brylee, Camden, Libby, Kenzie, Charlie and Karson Dean Watt, and Braxton Bradbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sharon was preceded in death by her loving husband of 73 years, Robert; her parents; sister, Marilyn; and step granddaughter, Katie Watt-Bradbury.

Sharon Walgren (1931-2024)

Mervin Donald Philpot, age 70, of North Platte, NE passed away on May 23, 2024.&nbsp; He was born on March 25, 1945 in Cozad, NE to Donald and Adda (Ambler) Philpot.

Mervin grew up in Minnesota with his grandfather and helped him on the farm starting at a very young age.&nbsp; He married Darlene Shower and to this union, two daughters were born, Michelle and Teresa.&nbsp; Mervin did construction work, was a metal worker and a truck driver for Nebraska Salt &amp; Grain.&nbsp; He worked transportation for a private company transporting inmates and people with medical conditions.

Mervin loved to weld and woodwork.&nbsp; He was open minded and loved to talk, he was very opinionated.&nbsp; Mervin had a big heart and would do anything for anybody, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp; If he could help a person out, he would.&nbsp; He loved to fish and ride motorcycles.&nbsp; He had a passion for putting puzzles together when the weather would not permit him to be outside.&nbsp; He loved watching westerns, eating cherry tomatoes, and ranching.&nbsp; Mervin enjoyed a PBR once in a while and was definitely a family man.

Survivors include daughters, Michelle (Henry) Kivett of Hershey, NE and Teresa Mains of Texas; grandchildren Austin Mains of Texas, Gage Mains of Texas, Anessa (Cody) Newton of North Platte, NE, and Kaitlyn Kivett (Beau Craig) of Carbondale, IL; great grandchildren Zoey and Addison; sisters Patti Smith and Geri Ambler; and numerous other family members and many friends.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Willa Jean Gregg, age 71, of Grant, NE passed away on May 18, 2024 at the Perkins County Hospital. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jean was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 9, 1952 to Wilfred Henderson and Gertrude Wattier.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jean married Russ Gregg on June 29, 1996 and they were happily married until death did they part. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jean's career spanned various fields, from being a legal secretary for several law firms, most notable for The Law Offices of Timothy R. Bryer Wilson, 16, of Ogallala passed away Saturday evening, May 18, 2024 as the result of an automobile accident in Deuel county.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the South Platte High School Gymnasium with Rev. J. M. Dickmander of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Brule officiating. &nbsp;Services will conclude at the school.

Bryer Tate Wilson was born on August 19,2007, in Grant, Nebraska. He died at the age of 16 on May 18, 2024, in a car accident on a county road outside of Big Springs, Nebraska. He would have been a junior in the fall.

One of Bryer's goals was to break the school records for weight lifting. He planned to work on Carlson's Ranch. He loved spending time with family and friends and being outside - especially when it rained.

His activities included football, 4-H, trap, throwing shotput during track, and mentoring youth. He really enjoyed shooting his guns, and had a strong belief in God and country.

He was steadfast in his beliefs and had a strong sense of integrity. He was kind, and he was patient. He was a protector of the underdogs and he fearlessly challenged those around him. He always tried to be the best version he could be, and he encouraged and inspired others to do the same. He was always comparing himself to those who were better than him.

One of his love languages was quality time. Even if it wasn't something he specifically liked doing, he would do it just to be with the people he loved - those who were important to him. Another was acts of service. He willingly did things for others if they needed done. He was a man of action like that.

Bryer is survived by his parents, Gabe and Lisa Wilson; his siblings, Annlyn, Truman, and Brianna Wilson; his sister-in-law, Caroline Wilson; his grandfathers, Bruce Wilson and Don Baker; two Uncles, Mitchell Wilson and Jake Vanhorn; an aunt, Patsy Vanhorn; two cousins, Bailey and Jack Vanhorn; Rob, Amy, Lauryn, Ella, John, and Jacob Stanley; and several other family and friends. Bryer was predeceased by his grandmothers, Bernice Wilson and Judy Baker.

Bradley Joe Horse of Cozad passed away Monday, May 20, 2024 at Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 67. Brad was born May 2, 1957 in Chadron, Nebraska to Robert E. and Mardra (Williams) Horse. He graduated from Chadron High School with the class of 1975. 

Brad had a love for music and during his high school days he became a part of the “Crazy Louie Band.” They traveled many places to play over the next ten years but he met the love of his life, Joy Pyle, while playing at a gig in Cozad, NE. They married on March 20, 1987 at Willow Island. The couple made their home in Cozad where they raised their children and lived their entire married life. 

He loved his family immensely and attended anything his children and grandchildren were involved in. After some time the band would reunite for reunions in Chadron and he was inducted into the Nebraska Music Hall of Fame in 2015. He made a career working at Nebraska Plastics in Cozad until his retirement and helped several area farmers during harvest. Brad was a friend to anyone he met. He could brighten your day and make you smile with his jokes and laughter. He will be dearly missed by many. 

Brad was preceded in death by his wife, Joy; father, Robert E. Horse; brothers, Robert M. and Tommy Lee; nephews, Michael Horse, Jared Corlett and Jesse Corlett. He is survived by his son, Zach (Erin) Horse and grandsons, Liam, Reid and Coye; daughter, Brittany Horse; mother, Mardra Horse; sister Virginia (Dennis) Salisbury; niece, Sydney Horse and nephew, Crae Horse.&nbsp;

Arlene was born April 30, 1933 to parents Christ and Martha Toberer. Arlene was the oldest daughter of four siblings including sisters Jane and Sharon and brother Gene. She grew up on the family farm near Eustis and graduated from Eustis High School.

Arlene married Raymond Klein on August 25, 1951. To this union five children were born: Gary, Rod,&nbsp;Brent, Carla and Jeff. They made their home on the farm south of Farnam. Arlene was a busy homemaker and was wonderful mother and cook. She had a green thumb and raised many large vegetable and flower gardens and spent time canning and preserving food. Arlene was also a talented seamstress and she showed her compassion and love for animals, especially dogs and cats. Faith in God was central in Arlene's life and she consistently passed her faith along to her children. The family attended church in Orafino and also Farnam, and Arlene was regularly involved in bible studies and prayer groups. She was also a member of the extension club in Cambridge. Arlene's family was busy making memories with many hunting and fishing trips as well as vacations to Colorado, South Dakota and Wyoming.&nbsp;

In Arlene's later years, she worked at the nursing home in Curtis. She moved to her home in Gothenburg where she became a caregiver for many through her work at the hospital in Gothenburg. &nbsp;She was an active member of the Morning Coffee bowling league, She took pleasure in bowling well into her 70's, showcasing her competitive spirit and love for the game. &nbsp;She became an avid Husker fan and enjoyed watching Husker sports whenever they were on. While in Gothenburg Arlene continued to practice her lifelong love of attending church and bible study and she made many treasured friends. Family Christmas get-togethers were real important to Arlene and her family always looked forward to her homemade chicken noodle soup. &nbsp;Her greatest source of happiness came from being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she cherished every moment spent with them, and she made it a priority to attend their events.

Arlene had a gift for always finding joy in the simple beauty of nature, especially the birds outside her window. She was also especially happy to enjoy cookies as her favorite treat. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile to share. She was so loved by her family and she will be missed.

Survivors include four sons, Gary (Dianne) Klein of Farnam, NE, Rod (Marla) Klein of Farnam, NE, Brent (Bev) Klein of McCook, NE, &nbsp;Jeff (Dee) Klein of Maywood, NE, daughter, Carla (Tony) Boots of North Platte, NE; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Jane (Dennis) Rupe of Eustis, NE and Sharon (Norm) Naylor of Lexington; many nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Tony Klein, two great grandchildren, brother, Gene Toberer, and sister, Karen Toberer.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, May 24, 2024, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

Services will be held at Farnam Methodist Church, May 25, 2024 at 10:30 am.

Interment will follow in the Eustis East Cemetery.&nbsp;Memorials may be given to the Farnam Fire and Rescue or the Farnam Senior Center.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mary Schlecht Dicke Orth, age 85, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2024, at Pathways Hospice Care Center in Fort Collins after suffering a catastrophic stroke on May 8, 2024.

Mary was born October 6, 1938, in Alamo, Texas, to Loretta Benne Schlecht and The Reverend Willard Schlecht. She was the oldest of seven children: five girls and two boys. She grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where she graduated high school in 1957. Following high school graduation, Mary married Ken Dicke and moved to College Station, Texas, where Ken attended Texas A&amp;M University. While living there, Mary gave birth to their son Alan and daughter Loretta (Lori). Following Ken's college graduation, their family moved to Buena Park, California, in the spring of 1960. While living there, Mary gave birth to sons James and Richard.

The family moved to Ogallala, Nebraska, in 1968, then Hampton, Lexington, and again to Ogallala, Nebraska, in 1977.

Mary and Ken Dicke ended their union in 1982. Mary married Dwayne Orth on May 11, 1991, at St. Paul's in Ogallala. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Culligan conventions. In 2007, they began wintering in Arizona, where they made many dear friends. Mary was a congregant of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for many years and was honored to serve with the Sandhills Crisis Intervention Program. She also worked part-time at Trails End. Dwayne and Mary lived in their home near Brule until Dwayne passed away in spring 2019. Thereafter, Mary moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, to live near her four children and their families.

Mary is predeceased by her husband, Dwayne Orth; her father, The Reverend Willard Schlecht; her mother, Loretta Benne Schlecht; her sisters, Judith Schlecht Klute and Margaret Schlecht Palmer; and her brother, Paul Schlecht.

Mary is survived by her sister Anita Schlecht Wall and Anita's husband Ed Wall of Hampton, Nebraska, her sister Joyce Schlecht Langley and Joyce's husband Barry Langley of Mobile, Alabama, and her brother David Schlecht and David's wife Joyce Schlecht of Newkirk, Oklahoma.
