NORTH PLATTE - The Guardians of the Children - FlatRock Chapter is gearing up for their 10th Annual "Caller" Chili/Soup &amp; Rib/Meat Cookoff &amp; Silent Auction event Saturday, February 3rd at the D &amp; N Event Center in North Platte. The event runs from 11am - 2pm. All proceeds from the fundraiser event will be used to further the mission of the Guardians of the Children - FlatRock Chapter.&nbsp;

Tickets to get into the event are $5, which allows you to try all the food. The Lil Guardians will be selling drinks and cinnamon rolls for their fundraiser during the event. Prize money is up on the lines for participants as it is community voting.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte city council held their regular meeting on January 16th, and different agendas were discussed amongst the council. The council has approved moving forward the rec center project into bid, update on the skate park, emergency snow route update and so much more.&nbsp;

<i>Edit from ORAC: Missoula Children's Theater auditions for K-12 students have been postponed until Tuesday, January 16, from 4-6 p.m. at Prairie View School (Small Gym) due to the frigid, icy conditions!</i>

OGALLALA - The Missoula Children's Theatre heads to Ogallala and invites area students to try out for Peter and Wendy. Tryouts are this Monday from 4:00-6:00pm MT at Prairie View Elementary School and tryouts will be held in the small gym. Tryouts are open to any student K-12 and all area students are welcome to tryout. 50-60 students will be selected.&nbsp;Students must bring their permission slip with them to the tryouts.&nbsp;

Students selected must be able to attend all the sessions throughout the week that the Missoula Children's Theatre will host. This includes workshop sessions and all practices. The event is being hosted by the Ogallala&nbsp;Regional Arts Council and the Ogallala Optimists.&nbsp;&nbsp;

PODCAST - Missoula Children's Theatre coming to Ogallala, tryouts now Tuesday due to weather

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with 4-H'ers Josh and Joelle Ewald and 4-H Development Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson about the 4-H Companion Animal Project.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - 4-H is America's largest youth development program across the United States that helps learn skills that will last a lifetime. The age requirement for 4-H is the ages of 8-18. There are many different categories that 4-H'ers can participate in during their time in the program. One program that is offered is the 4-H Companion Animal Project.&nbsp;

Companion animals is a diverse group of animals that include dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, companion birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and so much more. The program helps youth opportunities to learn and develop life skills and learn knowledge and proper ways of taking care of companion animals.&nbsp;

When it comes to participating in the event, the 4-H'rs need to have their animal ready for a judgement. Animals need to be prepped for shows and it takes time to get them ready. "Depending on the animal, but dogs you have to groom them, give them a bath, get their carrier ready and they're ready to go," said Josh Ewald.&nbsp;

Joelle Ewald, who competed in the 4-H Companion Animal Project last year entered her cat into the show. "Last year, I entered my cat Pumpkin into the show, and I got to talk to the judge which was so much fun," said Joelle Ewald.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way is gearing up for a couple of events in the next few months kicking off in February on the 1st and 2nd with an online event with Kendra Scott. When making a purchase use the code "GIVEBACK-FSUED" and 20% of the sales goes back to the united way.&nbsp;

Also in March, Mid-Plains United Way is teaming up with Pals Brewing Co. on March 30th for the 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt for adults. Eggs will contain many cool prizes. You must be 21+ to attend. First serve is scheduled for 7:00pm. The team, which has many Nebraskans excited from border to border, is loaded with high quality players.&nbsp;&nbsp;

One player on the training camp roster is D2 UNK former All-American setter and Kearney native Maddie Squiers has been turning heads during her time at camp. She was invited to the mini camp and then extended an invitation to the main training camp.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE –The shelter recently wrapped up its holiday campaign and is grateful for all the support they have received from the community. The Connection Homeless Shelter also SMART RECOVERY, which stands for Self-Management in Recovery training program gets together every Thursday at 7:30pm at the shelter. NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way has wrapped up its giving, fall and year end campaign and so far, has raised around $128,000 out of the $200,000 goal and are paced towards the goal. Mid-Plains united way has officially opened the 2024-2025 Partner Agency Applications and to see if your organization is eligible, <a href="https://www.midplainsunitedway.com/application">click here</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;

North Platte, Ne - Jailyn Miller a Sutherland 6th grader isn't bugging around, she's won the Purple Rainbow Ribbon at the Nebraska State with her 4H Entomology projects. Miller who resides with her family near Tryon, but attends school in Sutherland stays busy each year, entered in multiple 4H projects. A few years ago she started collecting bugs with her father, and is now winning not only at the local fair, but in Grand Island at the State Fair with Entomology.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Haven Smith, Executive Director from the Mid-Plains United Way and the pair discussed about the upcoming Holiday Café fundraiser event the united way is doing at the Holiday Craft Fair and Vendor Show this weekend and ways to help donate.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way is providing a Holiday Cafe at the Holiday Craft Fair and Vendor Show that is going on this Saturday and Sunday at the D&amp;N Event Center in North Platte. Instead of a traditional concession stand of nachos, hot dogs, etc, this year, the united way will offer a Holiday Cafe with different breakfast and lunch menu items and beverages. The craft fair and vendor show runs Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm and Sunday from 10:00am-3:00pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The holidays can be a stressful time to donate, Smith talks about how you can take part in the community. Smith also talks about what is the best way of donating to the united way. If you would like to learn more, check out the podcast above.&nbsp;

Ogallala BBB Sophomore Sawyer Smith postgame interview vs Lexington (12/1)

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Prairie Arts Center Executive Holly Carlini about what's going on at the Prairie Arts Center. The duo chatted about the Statewide Holiday Passport, ladies night out and classes the PAC is offering.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - &nbsp;The 2023 Holiday Passport is officially underway and the PAC is one of 20 attractions on this years passport. All four floors at the PAC is full decked out in holiday decorations and will be on display until January 7th. The floors are decorated in different themes.&nbsp;

Ladies night out is going on tomorrow in downtown North Platte and the PAC will be providing games and activities. This years theme is Willy Wonka. Even thought you have to sign up, for folks who did not get signed up are still invited to come shop and check out the discounts.&nbsp;

Lastly, the PAC is offering different classes for anyone to enjoy. A fun one going on tomorrow is a beer tasting with Pal's Brewing Company and you get to paint with beer. Also going on tomorrow is edible watercolor cookie class. If you would like to sign up for these classes or any classes, <a href="https://www.prairieartscenter.org/classes">click here.&nbsp;</a>

NORTH PLATTE - Community Connections is a partner agency of Mid-Plains United Way. Community Connections offers a substance abuse prevention program. The non-profit goal for the program is to further improve quality of life for children and families in Lincoln County by reducing abuse in the communities.

NORTH PLATTE - Sandhills State Bank will be doing a food drive until December 18th to help collect food for folks who may need it during the holiday season. The bank is collecting non-perishable food items at all 10 branches the bank runs. To donate food, you just need to take it to your local branch.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath got the chance to talk with Andrea Wenburg about raising funds for Kenya. The funds will be used to purchase sewing machines to send over to Kenya.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - Communty member are gearing up for a fundraiser event involving Christmas caroling to raise funds to purchase 6 sewing machines to send to Kenya. The group is looking to raise $1,400 to purchase the 6 machines with. The machines will be used to create new uniforms for school children who attend Overcoming Faith Schools. The school has over 900 students.&nbsp;

The group will be caroling from 6:00pm - 9:00pm on December 22nd in North Platte. The club says for a suggested $50 donation, you can have the carolers come to your home or send the group to someone else's home. If you would like to donate, you can send checks to North Platte Rotary PO Box 2313, North Platte, NE 69103. Outdoor Report with Julie Geiser as she gets Nebraska ready for Christmas

Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Teresa Helie, member of The Compassionate Friends Group about the Worldwide Candle Lighting event taking place this Sunday but also to learn more about the Compassionate Friends Group.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - This Sunday, is the Worldwide Candle Lighting for The Friends Compassionate Group as chapters will light off their candle at 7:00pm as the candles will stay lit for an hour in honor of a child who has passed away. The Compassionate Friends Group North Platte Chapter invites members from the public to arrive at the First Lutheran Church at 6:30pm to participate in the 7:00pm candle lighting event. Guests are asked to bring a candle, a picture if they choose too and the group ask guests if they can bring a votive candle.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Compassionate Friends Group is a worldwide group of people who have lost their children, grandchildren or lost someone and need folks to talk with. Members in this group meet once a month and will learn from one another. The group was founded over 50 years ago. Some items discussed in this council meeting included: new license for NPICE, annexation of land south and west of city industrial park, Downtown Christmas parade, housing solutions for North Platte and more.&nbsp;
