NSAA High School Volleyball District assignments

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team announced its 2026 schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 22. It features four home meets at the Bob Devaney Sports Center amongst 11 competitions.

NU will open its season at home as it hosts the Ameritas Masters Classic on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. (CT). The event will feature Missouri, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and University of Wisconsin-Stout.

The Huskers will open Big Ten competition with an away meet at UCLA in Los Angeles on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. (CT). Nebraska will then host Minnesota at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m. (CT).&nbsp;

The Big Red will host Ohio State the following week on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. (CT). Nebraska will follow that up with a road competition in Iowa City against Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. (CT).

NU will compete at the Bob Devaney Sports Center again on Sunday, Feb. 15 against Illinois at 2 p.m. (CT), before heading to two road conference matches — Friday, Feb. 20 at Maryland at 6:30 p.m. (CT) and the Big Fours meet in College Park, Pa., on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. (CT), where Nebraska will compete against Penn State, Michigan and Washington.

The Huskers will end their regular season with two more road competitions at TWU at 7 p.m. (CT) on Friday, March 6, and at North Carolina on Friday, March 13 at 5:45 p.m. (CT). The North Carolina meet will also feature Penn State.&nbsp;

Nebraska will have 13 returnees this season, including Second-Team All-Big Ten member Whitney Jencks.&nbsp;

Huskers release 2026 gymnastics schedule

The Nebraska men’s golf team caps its 2025 fall season by traveling to Alabama for the Steelwood Collegiate, Oct. 25-26.

The two-day, 54-hole event gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (CT) for two rounds on Saturday, Oct. 25, in Loxley, Ala. The teams will compete in Sunday’s final round beginning with tee times at 7:40 a.m. (CT).

The Huskers will face a par-72, 7,096-yard layout at the Steelwood Country Club and a strong, 14-team field that includes nine power conference teams. Nebraska, Purdue and Rutgers carry the Big Ten banner, while Iowa State, Kansas State and West Virginia represent the Big 12. Virginia Tech and Wake Forest represent the ACC, while Texas A&amp;M plays for the SEC. Kennesaw State, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Rice and the hosts from South Alabama round out the field.

The Huskers will be seeking their fourth straight top-five team finish after taking fifth at the 15-team Purdue Fall Invitational (Oct. 13-14). Jackson Benge (T18th), Rudy Sautron (T20th) and Caden Mickelson (T23rd) all produced top-25 finishes at Purdue.

The effort in Indiana followed Nebraska’s win at its own Git-R-Done Invitational (Sept. 22-23).The victory at Firethorn gave the Big Red its first tournament title since opening the 2012-13 season with a win at its own Fairway Club Invitational at ArborLinks (Sept. 10-11, 2012).

The Huskers won in impressive fashion by posting a school-record 823 (-29) on a 7,102-yard, par-71 layout at Firethorn.

Mickelson, a true freshman from Kansas City, leads the Huskers with a 70.57 stroke average over 14 rounds this fall, including a third-place finish at the Git-R-Done Invitational.

Sautron, a junior from Reunion Island, France, has added a 71.13 stroke average over 15 rounds, including a share of the individual title at Git-R-Done when he finished with a school-record 200 (-13). Last season at the Steelwood Collegiate, Sautron fired a school-record 63 (-9) in the final round to finish in a tie for sixth at 208 (-8). The Huskers tied for 11th in a 14-team field.

Benge, a sophomore from Omaha, has been consistent for the Huskers throughout the fall, posting a 71.27 stroke average over 15 rounds with four top-25 individual finishes. He was Nebraska’s top finisher at the Gopher (T12th), Bearcat (T14th) and Purdue (T18th) invitationals.

Nebraska’s Rudy Sautron captured Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week honors for the second time in his career after sharing the individual tournament title at NU’s Git-R-Done Invitational (Sept. 22-23).

The junior from Reunion Island, France, smashed the Nebraska tournament record with a three-round total of 200 (-13), including the second-best round in school history with a 64 (-7). Sautron’s performance helped Nebraska close out its first team title since the fall of 2012.

Sautron earned his first Big Ten weekly award on Sept. 12, 2024 after claiming the individual title at the Gopher Invitational to open his NU career.

Huskers Going Low Early During 2025-26 Season

A quartet of Huskers have been consistently below par through the first five tournaments of the 2025 fall campaign.

True freshman Caden Mickelson has led the scoring charge for the young Huskers, posting a team-best 70.57 stroke average over 14 rounds. Mickelson heads to the Steelwood Collegiate 11 strokes below par (-0.79/round) through his first five collegiate tournaments.

Junior Rudy Sautron is not far behind, carrying a 71.13 (-0.27/round) stroke average through 15 rounds. Sautron is four-under-par for the season heading to the Steelwood Collegiate, where he set the Nebraska single-round record with a final-round 63 (-9) a year ago.

Sophomores Jackson Benge and Brodie Cunningham also have been scoring at a high level. Benge owns a 71.27 stroke average over 15 rounds. He is two strokes under par for the year (-0.13/round), while Cunningham has added a 71.60 stroke average over 15 rounds. Cunningham is three strokes over par for the season (+0.20/round) after tying for 34th with a 222 (+6) at the Purdue Fall Invitational.

In addition to those four Huskers regularly in the lineup, newcomers Thomas Bryson and Bryson Oots both own even-par stroke averages of 71.50 over six fall rounds outside the Husker lineup.

Huskers Hope to Break Through with 2026 NCAA Bid

Nebraska believes its 10-man roster has the ingredients to break through with its first team NCAA Regional berth since 2007.

Nebraska, which has made significant jumps in the final national rankings in each of Coach Judd Cornell’s three seasons, including a No. 83 ranking to end 2024-25, has a balanced roster with experienced seniors and talented juniors and sophomores leading the way.

Fourth-year Husker seniors Quinn Yost (56 rounds) and Davis Johnson (38 rounds) have seen significant time in Nebraska’s lineup during their careers. Both help set a competitive tone each day in practice and both provide great leadership off the course in the classroom and in the community.

Two-time NCAA Division II All-Midwest Region selection Bryson Oots adds to the talent and experience of Nebraska’s 2026 senior class.

Juniors Rudy Sautron and Evan McDermott have experience playing in the heart of Nebraska’s lineup. Both were leaders for the Big Red as sophomores in 2024-25, and both are focused on continuing NU’s drive for postseason play.

Brodie Cunningham leads a talented sophomore class that includes Jackson Benge and James Ackerman. Cunningham set Nebraska’s freshman stroke average record a year ago, while Benge got a strong taste of collegiate action. Cunningham and Benge lead Nebraska’s lineup at the Git-R-Done Invitational.

Freshmen Caden Mickelson and Thomas Bryson hope to make impacts on the Husker lineup in their first season. Both players were individual high school state champions and four-time all-state selections during their prep careers. Mickelson was NU’s top finisher (T12th) with a school freshman-record 207 (-9) at the Island Resort Invitational (Aug. 31-Sept. 1). He shattered that freshman mark just three weeks later by taking third at the Git-R-Done Invitational (Sept. 22-23) with a 54-hole total of 201 (-12).

Huskers close Fall campaign at Steelwood Collegiate

Lamar, Colo. – North Platte Community College volleyball team beat Lamar in four sets, 25-13, 20-25, 25-22, 27-25 on Tuesday night.

Setter Kiley Kearney orchestrated the offense with 45 assists and added five aces from the service line, while Zoe Maher contributed four aces.

"I thought our ball control was a little sloppy tonight, and we weren’t in system as much as I think we should be," said head coach Alexa McCall. "When we are in system we are hard to defend."

North Platte had a strong start in the opening set, jumping to a 7-2 lead. A successful challenge overturned a call on a Khloee Wright kill, originally ruled out, helping the Knights reach 20 points with a commanding 20-9 lead. They closed out with a kill from Wright and an ace by Maher, taking a 1-0 lead in the match.

Set two started evenly, tied at 4-4, before Lamar edged ahead with a tip. The tightly contested set saw neither team pull away by more than three points until the Runnin’ Lopes got a four point run to go up 16-12. North Platte responded with a 3-0 run sparked by a Nya Lual kill, trimming the deficit to one. However, Lamar held their ground and closed out the set to even the match at 1-1.

Lamar came out firing in the third set, racing to a 6-0 lead, a kill from Makenzie Piper halted the run. A tip by Makenna Stephenson ignited a massive 11-0 surge for North Platte. That run, capped by a block, flipped the momentum and gave the Knights a four-point lead that they would carry to a third-set win, 2-1.

The fourth set was tightly contested from the start, with six ties early on. A kill by Ella Rotherham gave North Platte an 11-10 lead. Lamar continued to battle back, tying the score again at 17, with the last tie at 25. A kill by Becca Olearnick and a Lamar attacking error sealed the set and the match victory for the Knights.

“I am glad we came out with a win, we have worked really hard to stay focused on one game at a time,” said coach McCall.

North Platte (13-14, 7-5 in Region IX South) continues Region IX play on Saturday against rival McCook. First serve against the Indians is set for 2 p.m. in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.

Knights beat Lamar on the road for fourth straight win

CHADRON, Neb. – Year one of the Chris Francis era has left a positive impression on the rest of the conference, with the Eagle men's basketball program receiving one first-place vote and finishing seventh overall in the 2025-26 RMAC Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll.

The seventh-place projection comes after the Eagles were picked 15th but finished eighth in 2024-25, sealing the program's third consecutive trip to the RMAC Tournament.

The poll is based on a vote of the league's 15 head coaches, who all rank the opposing 14 schools without voting for their own program.

Black Hills State is the preseason pick to win the league, receiving 10 of 15 first-place votes and 183 points overall. Colorado School of Mines, the defending league champions, are second with three first-place votes, six second-place votes and two third-place votes with 167 total points. 

Colorado Mesa received one first-place vote and the most third-place votes of any school (six), finishing third in the poll at 158 points, while UCCS (144 points) and Fort Lewis (143) were neck-and-neck to round out the top five. 

The remainder of the projected RMAC Tournament spots in the poll are filled by MSU Denver (137 points), Chadron State (102) and Colorado Christian (90). Adams State is ninth, followed by Westminster, New Mexico Highlands, CSU Pueblo, Western Colorado, Regis and South Dakota Mines. 

Including Chadron State, nine of the league's 15 schools received at least one first-place, second-place or third-place vote. 

Along with the poll, the RMAC also released a 10-player Preseason All-RMAC team, made up of the top returning players from last year's all-conference voting. Chadron State did not have a selection, due in large part to only one player who recorded minutes for last year's roster (Zach Smith) coming back to the Eagles in 2025-26. 

Black Hills State also led the way on the preseason team with three of the 10 picks, while Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Mesa each had two.

Chadron State will open the season on November 14 with the first of back-to-back games against West Texas A&amp;M. CSC's home opener will be the following Wednesday, November 19 against the University of Mary at 1 p.m.

Nebraska junior middle blocker Andi Jackson was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.&nbsp;

Jackson was dominant in Nebraska's 3-0 wins at Michigan State and Michigan over the weekend. She totaled 10 blocks for an average of 1.67 per set, and three of her blocks were solo blocks.&nbsp;

Jackson was phenomenal on the other side of the net as well with 2.17 kills per set on a blistering .706 hitting percentage (13-1-17). Jackson led the Husker defense to a .139 opponent hitting percentage for the week, including a .079 hitting percentage for Michigan, which was a season low.

At Michigan State on Friday, Jackson posted five kills (.571), four blocks and three aces. At Michigan on Sunday, she had eight kills (.800), six blocks and three digs.&nbsp;

It marks Jackson's second career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor, as she also collected the accolade on Oct. 28, 2024.&nbsp;

DURANGO, Colo. – Aidan Thompson threw five touchdown passes, Tommy Thomas set an all-time program record and the Eagle defense pitched a shutout as Chadron State football won its sixth consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game with a 41-0 victory over Fort Lewis.

With three receiving touchdowns on the day, Thomas became the Chadron State career touchdown receptions leader with 27. He was the primary target throughout the day for Thompson, who completed 25 of 35 passes for 237 yards and threw for all five of the touchdowns that were scored with no interceptions. The offense finished with 25 first downs and 450 total yards.

The Eagles' strong defense certainly did its share, limiting Fort Lewis to seven first downs and 128 total net yards plus recovering three Skyhawk fumbles that the offense turned into touchdowns. 

After five consecutive victories where the Chadron State offense scored on its first possession, the Eagles came up empty initially against the Skyhawks. CSC received the opening kickoff and drove 55 yards in 10 plays to the hosts' 20-yard line, but were stopped on a fourth and one situation, giving up the ball on downs. 

That didn't spell doom for the Eagles, however. They drove 98 yards and scored on their second possession, capped by the day's longest pass, a 63-yard connection that junior Devon Sundgren took down the middle of the field with three minutes remaining in the opening period as the Eagles led 7-0 after 15 minutes.

Chadron State also scored twice in the second quarter when Thompson connected both times with senior receiver Tommy Thomas, who finished with 12 catches for 100 yards, his third 100-yard receiving game of the year.

Thompson and Thomas initially hooked up on a 10-yard strike to cap a 63-yard drive with four minutes remaining before halftime. Just two-and-a-half minutes later, Thomas scored again on a five-yard toss shortly after Eagles' defensive end William Stemler forced Fort Lewis quarterback Jake Jones to fumble and CSC linebacker Reese Jacobs pounced on the ball at the Skyhawks' 25. 

It initially appeared that the Eagles had lost that scoring opportunity when Fort Lewis intercepted a CSC pass. But the pick was nullified by a pass interference call against the Skyhawks, and two plays later, the Eagles were in the end zone and led 21-0 at halftime. 

The Eagles cashed in on another Fort Lewis turnover early in the second half. A Skyhawk muffed Brodie Eisenbraun's 53-yard punt and the loose ball was claimed by one of the CSC special teams hustlers, Rylan Wehr, at the Fort Lewis eight-yard line.

A Skyhawk muffed Brodie Eisenbraun's 53-yard punt and the loose ball was claimed by one of the CSC special teams hustlers, Rylan Wehr, at the Fort Lewis eight-yard line. The Thompson and Thomas combo immediately connected for their third touchdown of the day. It was Tommy Tom's, as he's popularly known on the Chadron State campus, 11th touchdown catch this season and the 27th of his career, making him the Eagles' all-time leader in TD receptions. The old mark of 26 was shared by Tevon Wright, a native of Florida who graduated in 2019, and Cole Thurness of Rapid City, S.D., who concluded his career in 2021. That wasn't the end of the Eagles' remarkable success in turning Fort Lewis misfortune into points. Midway in the third period, Skyhawks running back KB Broadus gained 15 yards for his team's longest play of the game, but lost the ball when he was tackled by safety Sutton Pohlman, which was recovered by defensive end Andrew Calderon at the Fort Lewis 43. Chadron State went ahead 35-0 on another eight-yard scoring pass thrown by Thompson, this time to sophomore Garet Schlabs. Thompson's 25-yard pass to Deon Metezier preceded the TD toss. Chadron State also added Wilson Yee field goals of 20 and 36 yards, the first late in the third period and the second early in the fourth. Yee also kicked three extra points before turning those duties over to redshirt freshman Shay Prichard following the two third period TDs. While the CSC ground game didn't get in on the scoring, it also was effective, gaining 164 yards on 39 carries. Daytuawn Pearson was the leader with 14 rushes for 98 yards, including a 54-yard romp that set up the Eagles' first field goal. The Eagles made the trip without redshirt freshman Quincey Ryker, who rushed for 220 yards and scored three touchdowns the previous Saturday during the 37-20 win over New Mexico Highlands. The Eagles defensive statistics were balanced with 18 players recording tackles. Linebacker Logan O'Brien, a three-time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week this season, led CSC in tackles with six and forced a fumble. Pohlman, Ryder True and Cooper Walton each participated in five stops. All together, the Eagles had eight tackles for losses and broke up five passes to go with the three fumble recoveries that were converted into points. The Eagles are idle this coming Saturday before meeting South Dakota Mines in Rapid City on November 1. Chadron State (6-2, 6-0 RMAC), CSU Pueblo (7-1, 6-0 RMAC) and Western Colorado (7-0, 5-0 RMAC) all remain unbeaten in conference play after this week's games.
