SPEARFISH, S.D. – With both teams entering the game with 3-4 overall records and 2-3 marks in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, it was anticipated that the 80th football game between Chadron State and Black Hills State would be dramatic. It proved to be that and more, with Black Hills running back Cam Goods' 45-yard jaunt for a touchdown with 2:46 to play giving the Yellow Jackets a 21-18 victory over the Eagles Saturday evening in Spearfish. 

It was a heart-breaker for the Eagles. Led by quarterback DJ Ralph, who completed 33 of 47 passes for 408 yards, Chadron State had a chance on the game's final play to tie the score and send it into overtime, but their 43-yard field goal attempt missed. The loss was CSC's third loss by three or fewer points this fall.

Ralph's 408 yards were a season-high for the Chadron State quarterback. The Eagles passed the ball 47 times, with Ralph completing 33 of those attempts. Two Chadron State receivers went over 100 yards on the day, with Tommy Thomas catching 11 passes for 146 yards and Grant Swenson catching seven passes for 102. 

Trailing 14-7 at halftime, the Eagles scored 11 unanswered points and went ahead 18-14 after being awarded a safety when Black Hills State was called for intentional grounding on a pass thrown out of the end zone, but Chadron State was unable to hang on to the lead. 

For Black Hills State, Goods also scored the game's first touchdown on a one-yard plunge in the opening period to cap an 11-play, 60-yard drive. It saw Yellow Jackets quarterback Luke Duby complete four of five passes for 48 yards. Ryan Ewing added the extra point.

Chadron State tied the score at 7-7 with just under four minutes left in the second quarter with an eight-play, 88-yard march that was highlighted by Ralph's 50-yard pass to wide receiver Grant Swenson. Two plays later, Ralph hit tight end Peter Krohn with a six-yard toss for the touchdown. Wilson Yee kicked the extra point.

Black Hills regained the lead at 14-7 with 50 seconds left in the first half.  A 33-yard pass from Duby to Damien Boozer was the big gainer, carrying to the 12-yard line. Alternate quarterback Kade Weber then entered the game, ran the ball twice and scored from the five. Ewing again added the PAT.

An interception and 32-yard return by safety Dax Yeradi set up Chadron State's second touchdown with 10:48 left in the third quarter. An 18-yard pass to wide receiver Tommy Thomas was the big play before Ralph carried a keeper the final three yards. It was Yeradi's fourth interception of the season and also Ralph's fourth rushing touchdown of the year.

In a significant play, Jackets' defensive tackle Isaiah Morales blocked the extra point attempt, leaving the score 14-13 in favor of the hosts. That was one of four missed kicks on the day for the Eagles, who failed to convert two other times after lining up for field goals before the game's final play. The first was on the game's opening possession when problems with the snap and hold at the 47-yard line prevented the kick from being attempted. The second was in the second quarter when a 42-yard effort missed the mark.  

Kicker Wilson Yee did make a 35-yarder to give Chadron State its first lead of the game with 5:10 eft in the third period. A 22-yard pass from Ralph to running back Chase Nelson was the key play in the 61-yard drive. Early in the fourth, a punt from Brodie Eisenbraun pinned BHSU inside the 10-yard line, while Yellow Jackets personal foul and false start eventually backed the home team up to the two-yard line. On second down, Duby was pressured in the end zone and desperately got rid of the ball, leading to an intentional grounding call and a safety for Chadron State, pushing the score to 18-14.

After the Eagles took the lead with the five points provided by the field goal and the safety, Ewing punted the ball 77 yards, forcing CSC to take possession on its own 17. After picking up two first downs, Ralph was intercepted by Black Hills safety Nicc Quinones at midfield. Three plays later, Goods broke loose on his long touchdown jaunt that put Black Hills ahead 21-18, the eventual final score.

There was still 2:40 left to play when the Eagles took possession on their own 23. Ralph hit Thomas for gains of 32 and 17 yards to help move the ball to the Yellow Jackets' 20. The Eagles eventually reached the 13 before defensive end Matt Lofaso sacked the CSC quarterback for a 13-yard loss. 

It was fourth down and the Eagles were forced to try the 43-yard field goal with hopes of playing in overtime, but Yee's kick was slightly wide to the right, ending the game.

The Eagles finished with 410 yards of total offense despite having only two net rushing yards after five sacks for minus 44 yards were deducted. 

For Black Hills State, Damian Boozer had seven catches for 89 yards. Goods, who finished with 98 yards on 19 carries, led all game rushers by a large margin.          

The Eagles will host another long-time rival, South Dakota Mines, this coming Saturday at home at Elliott Field at Don Beebe Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

Black Hills State holds off CSC comeback in final seconds

VICTORIA – The Victoria volleyball is headed to the 1A
Division II State Tournament after winning their own Sub-State Saturday.

The top-seeded Knights defeated Minneola 25-16, 25-11 in the
semifinals then defeated Western Plains 25-15, 25-11 in the finals.

Victoria improves to 26-14 on the season.

Wheatland-Grinnell also advances to the state tournament after
sweeping Golden Plains and Wallace County in the Sharon Springs Sub-State.
Wheatland-Grinnell is now 31-9.

Otis-Bison also punched their ticket to the state tournament
after sweeping Hodgeman County and Bucklin at their own Sub-State. The Cougars
are 25-14.

The Nebraska women's basketball team opens the 2024-25 season at No. 23 in the USA Today/WBCA Top 25 released on Thursday, Oct. 24. The Huskers were also ranked No. 23 in the preseason AP Poll (Oct. 15).

Nebraska is coming off a trip to the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament and an appearance in the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game. Defending national champion South Carolina earned the No. 1 spot in the poll, while UConn starts the season at No. 2.

Last season, Nebraska finished No. 25 in the final NCAA NET rankings.

Huskers Ranked No. 23 in WBCA Preseason Top 25

The Nebraska swim and dive team will take on Iowa State in the Big Red's annual Pink Out dual meet at the Devaney Natatorium on Friday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. (CT).&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Huskers plan to get back on the winning track against the Cyclones after dropping a 170-130 decision at Iowa (Oct. 18).

Against the Hawkeyes, Husker All-American Gena Jorgensen captured three individual titles, while Abby Baxter captured the victory on the one-meter board.&nbsp;

Jorgenson, a junior from Aberdeen, S.D., swam her way to wins in both the 1,000 freestyle (10:06.98) and 500 free (4:55.64). She added another victory in the 200 backstroke (4:55.64).&nbsp;

Newcomer Maisie Gilford stood out for the Huskers, contributing a pair of individual runner-up finishes in the 50 freestyle (23.98) and 100 free (52.16). The junior from England also was a part of two second-place relays.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Maia Hall, a senior from Whitby, England, contributed second-place finishes in the 100 (1:03.62) and 200 (2:17.57) breaststrokes. Hall also added a third-place performance in the 200 IM (2:07.39). &nbsp;

In the diving well the Huskers had a strong all-around showing. Baxter scored 305.10 to take the title on the one-meter board. Kelsey Clairmont finished fifth. On the three-meter, sophomore&nbsp;Antonina Harned&nbsp;earned a runner-up finish (315.53), while Baxter took third and&nbsp;Nettie Knapton&nbsp;finished fifth. &nbsp;

Last Meeting with Iowa StateLast season, the Huskers powered past the Cyclones, 167-132 victory. Jorgenson led the Huskers by capturing two titles in the 1,000 (10:15.79) and 500 (4:59.84) freestyles. Nebraska native JoJo Randby contributed an individual title in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.65). Abby Baxter and Antonina Harned took first and second place in both the one-meter and three-meter dives, respectively.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nebraska leads the all-time dual series with Iowa State, 40-4-1.

A Look at the CyclonesIowa State opened its season with a 201-94 win over South Dakota State in Ames, Oct. 10. The Cyclones added a second home win by beating South Dakota, 179-119, last Friday to improve 2-0 on the young season.Against South Dakota, Corinne Guist claimed victories for the Cyclones in the 1,000 (10:26.62) and 500 (5:05.47) freestyles. Grace Swoboda took a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.46). The freshman from LaVista, Neb., will swim in Nebraska collegiately for her first time on Friday. Kate Mitchell swept the one-meter (249.45) and three-meter (260.32) dives for the Cyclones, while Ally Blumenfeld took second in three-meter scoring 259.20.&nbsp;

NSAA Volleyball District and Sub-District Assignments

OMAHA, Neb.&nbsp;–&nbsp;Omaha Supernovas&nbsp;setter&nbsp;Natalia Valentín-Anderson&nbsp;extended her string of standout performances into Week Three of the Athletes Unlimited Pro Volleyball League in Arizona.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Valentín-Anderson, who helped lead Omaha to the inaugural Pro Volleyball Federation Championship in May, teamed up with former Supernova and 2024 PVF Server of the Year&nbsp;Bethania De La Cruz-Mejía&nbsp;for the second-straight week. Team De La Cruz-Meíja were fearsome once again, recording a 2-1 record losing only to Team (Brittany) Abercrombie, who has yet to lose a match in AU this season.&nbsp;

The Olympian put up 655 points across three matches by posting109 assists (12.1 A/S), 37 digs (4.1 D/S), three kills, two blocks and one ace while being a part of two team wins. Heading into Week Four, Valentín-Anderson ranks sixth with 1,898 points being the only setter inside the top ten.&nbsp;&nbsp;

There’s no debate that Valentín-Anderson is the best performing setter in AU this season, leading the league in assists (322) by 68 over former Supernova and teammate&nbsp;Sydney Hilley&nbsp;(254). She’s also the AU leader in assists per set with 11.5 with Hilley coming closest at 9.77. Among setters, Valentín-Anderson is first in digs (114) and digs per set (4.07) while being tied for first in kills (12) and second in both aces (4) and blocks (7).&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kelsie Payne&nbsp;starred at opposite for Team (Dani) Drews and racked up 285 points with 21 kills, 17 digs and four blocks. 2024 Supernovas team captain&nbsp;Brooke Nuneviller&nbsp;was balanced on the stat sheet once again with 29 kills and 28 digs across three matches. That also includes three assists, one block and one ace. Nuneviller ranks fourth overall in kills per set (3.79) and leads every attacker with 3.61 digs per set.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Supernovas middle blocker and former Nebraska Volleyball player&nbsp;Kayla Caffey&nbsp;played in only seven sets limiting her numbers to 10 kills, three blocks, two aces and one dig. She’s third in AU with 22 blocks while being extremely effective from the service line with six aces, which is third overall and first among middle blockers.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Supernovas’ Valentín-Anderson stays dominant in Week Three of Athletes Unlimited, Ranks Sixth heading into Week Four 

Kearney, Neb. –&nbsp;The now sixth-ranked Nebraska Kearney volleyball team served up a season-high 10 aces and got kills from 12 different players to sweep Sterling College (<a target="_blank" href="https://lopers.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2024/sterling-college-kan-/boxscore/7968">-11, -13, -11</a>) Wednesday night at the Health &amp; Sports Center.

Beginning a four-match homestand,&nbsp;the Lopers (21-1) face travel partner Fort Hays State (10-8) Friday night and then get the weekend off.

This was a countable match for the Warriors (12-11) who hail from Sterling, Kan. They used 16 different players with seven having a kill. Sterling returns to NAIA action Saturday at Evangel (Mo.).There were just five ties and three lead changes as UNK out hit SC by a .290-.000 margin. The Warriors had 21 kills and 21 errors, 17 of the unforced kind, but also dug up 45 balls.

“They played really good defense. We took some great swings…they block touched a lot of balls, they slowed balls down, we got blocked a little, they dug some hard-hit balls,” said UNK head coach&nbsp;Rick Squiers. “They came to play and had the right mentality. I’m sure they took some things away from this match and we appreciate them coming up here. It’s hard to find home matches.”

We wanted to make sure Carly got swings on both pins and we accomplished that. I thought she handled herself well,” said Squiers.

“Rhyan (Mock)&nbsp;came in and played good volleyball for us, we need to keep getting&nbsp;Trista (Marx)&nbsp;involved so she was able to come in and do some good things.”

In the backrow, libero&nbsp;Alli Wiese&nbsp;(Mattawan, Mich.) and DS&nbsp;Addyson Mock&nbsp;(Stilwell, Kan.) had 15 kills apiece with freshman setter&nbsp;Julia Davenport&nbsp;(Papillion-LaVista) at two aces and nine assists.

“Elli (Mehlin)&nbsp;played well coming off the bench and had a nice service run. Julia did some setting as well and it’s so hard to get your backup setters any kind of game reps at all,” said Squiers.

Team De La Cruz-Meíja were fearsome once again, recording a 2-1 record losing only to Team (Brittany) Abercrombie, who has yet to lose a match in AU this season.&nbsp;The Olympian put up 655 points across three matches by posting109 assists (12.1 A/S), 37 digs (4.1 D/S), three kills, two blocks and one ace while being a part of two team wins. Heading into Week Four, Valentín-Anderson ranks sixth with 1,898 points being the only setter inside the top ten.&nbsp;&nbsp;There’s no debate that Valentín-Anderson is the best performing setter in AU this season, leading the league in assists (322) by 68 over former Supernova and teammate&nbsp;Sydney Hilley&nbsp;(254). She’s also the AU leader in assists per set with 11.5 with Hilley coming closest at 9.77. Among setters, Valentín-Anderson is first in digs (114) and digs per set (4.07) while being tied for first in kills (12) and second in both aces (4) and blocks (7).&nbsp;&nbsp;Kelsie Payne&nbsp;starred at opposite for Team (Dani) Drews and racked up 285 points with 21 kills, 17 digs and four blocks. 2024 Supernovas team captain&nbsp;Brooke Nuneviller&nbsp;was balanced on the stat sheet once again with 29 kills and 28 digs across three matches. That also includes three assists, one block and one ace. Nuneviller ranks fourth overall in kills per set (3.79) and leads every attacker with 3.61 digs per set.&nbsp;&nbsp;Supernovas middle blocker and former Nebraska Volleyball player&nbsp;Kayla Caffey&nbsp;played in only seven sets limiting her numbers to 10 kills, three blocks, two aces and one dig. A trio of former Nebraska Cornhuskers are listed on opening night rosters as the NBA season begins on Tuesday.&nbsp;&nbsp; Dalano Banton and Bryce McGowens are teammates on the Portland Trail Blazers, while Jack McVeigh is a rookie with the Houston Rockets.&nbsp; It is the fourth straight season that Nebraska has had multiple players on NBA rosters.&nbsp; While Opening Night is set for Tuesday, both Portland and Houston begin their NBA seasons on Wednesday.

Banton comes off his best season as a professional, averaging 10.3 points 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while splitting time with both the Boston Celtics and Portland Trailblazers. He flourished after his trade with Portland, averaging 16.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in 30 games. Banton begins his fourth NBA season after being a second-round pick in 2021. After sitting out the 2019-20 campaign, Banton played in all 27 games, including 22 starts, for the Huskers in 2020-21, averaging 9.6 points per game while leading the Huskers in both rebounding (5.9) and assists (3.9) per game. North Platte, Neb. – Knights wrapped up Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference action with a four-set loss to McCook Community College on Tuesday night.

Jaelyn Dicke led the way with 13 kills, 17 digs and two assisted blocks. Zoe Maher added eight kills to accompany her 10 digs and two assisted blocks.

A 3-0 rally propelled the Indians to a 7-4 lead in the opening set. North Platte surged back to retake the lead on a net violation, 9-8. The lead would change hands three more times throughout the course of the first set. Back-to-back attacking errors evened the match at 23, before two straight points secured the set for the road team.

North Platte leapt out to a 14-1 lead in the second set after a block from Nya Lual. Knights continued to dominate the set until a late 9-1 run pulled the Indians back within three, 23-20. The black and gold went back to work and closed the set out with kills from Maher and Dicke.

The margin stayed under three in the opening moments of the third set until a 4-0 run pushed the Indians out to a 14-9 lead. North Platte managed to cut the deficit to two on an attacking error, but McCook closed out the set on an 8-1 run to take the 2-1 set advantage.

Knights traded points with the Indians to open the fourth set. McCook caught fire with a 5-1 run to build an 11-6 lead. The Indians continued to extend their lead over the remainder of the set to put the finishing touches on their four-set win.

Knights (12-23) will conclude the regular season at home on Saturday against Lamar Community College. Serve is set for 2 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

Miu Takahashi recorded a hole-in-one on her way to a 71 (-1) to lead the Nebraska women's golf team in the final round of the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas on Monday.

Takahashi, a senior from Nasu-machi, Japan, aced the 165-yard, par-3 fourth hole to highlight her best round of the season on the 6,111-yard, par-72 layout at the Kissing Tree Golf Course.

Takahashi closed the tournament in a tie for 61st, while helping the Huskers&nbsp; to an 11th-place team finish in the 12-team field.

Lauren Thiele led Nebraska with a three-round total of 226 (+10) to tie for 49th overall in the 68-player field. The redshirt sophomore from Wahoo, Neb., produced rounds of 73 and 76 on Monday, before closing with a 77 Tuesday.

True freshman Eden Lohrbach (Ames, Iowa) was Nebraska's No. 2 finisher with a three-round total of 229 (+13) to take 54th, including a final-round 73 (+1). Lohrbach opened with back-to-back rounds of 78 on Monday.

Sophomore Hannah Kono was NU's No. 3 finisher in the tournament with her tie for 56th at 231 with three consecutive rounds of 77 (+5).&nbsp;

Freshman Danica Lundgren (Austin, Texas) rounded out the Husker contingent in a tie for 65th at 239 (+23), including a final-round 74 (+2) on Tuesday that counted toward Nebraska's team total.

No. 23 TCU won the team title with a three-round total of 842 (-22), one shot better than runner-up Houston at 843 (-21). Oklahoma took third at 844 (-20), while Ohio State and Texas Tech tied for fourth at 849 (-15).&nbsp;

Nebraska closed with a three-round score of 915 (+51) to finish one shot ahead of Northern Illinois.

TCU's Kirstin Angosta took medalist honors at 206 (-10) with a one-stroke win over five golfers, including teammate Camille Min-Gaultier, UNLV's McKenzi Hall, New Mexico's Maria Garcia, Texas Tech's Lauren Zaretsky and Oklahoma's Reagan Chaney.

Takahashi Hole-in-One highlights Huskers in Texas

The Nebraska women’s cross country team jumped to No. 6 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Rankings on Monday. The Huskers moved up five spots after being ranked No. 11 last week.

Over the course of the 2024 season, the women have finished in first place at two meets – the Augustana Twilight and Greeno/Dirksen Invitational – and third at the Bill Dellinger Invitational.

At the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Oct. 11, every women’s team member set either a personal best or season high in the 6k.&nbsp;Berlyn Schutz has led the team, finishing first at the Augustana Twilight, 10th at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational and fourth at the Bill Dellinger Invitational. Schutz was recognized as the Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week after claiming her individual title at the Augustana Twilight. Ali Bainbridge posted a second-place finish at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational and a seventh-place finish at the Bill Dellinger Invitational. Brynna McQuillen has also registered two top-10 finishes in 2024.&nbsp;NU will kick off the postseason with the Big Ten Championships on Friday, Nov. 1 in Savoy, Ill. Lincoln, Neb.&nbsp;- Despite outshooting the Huskies 25-9, the Nebraska soccer team fell 2-0 to Washington at home on Senior Sunday.&nbsp;

Nebraska also held the advantage in corners (7-0), but Washington led in shots on goal (7-5) and saves (7-3), as the Huskers dropped to 5-10-1 (2-7-1 Big Ten) on the season and Washington improved to 9-5-2 (6-4-0 Big Ten).&nbsp;

Nebraska was on the offensive attack early, as Sarah Weber tallied the opening two shots of the game, but it was Washington that recorded the first finish for either team. In the seventh minute, Ioanna Papatheodorou scored off assists from Samiah Shell and Kelsey Branson.

Going into the half, the Huskers held the lead in shots (14-7) and corners (4-0), while the Huskies tallied one more shot on goal (4-3). Individually, Weber led the way for the Huskers with six shots and freshman Reese Snowden added three of her own. Abbey Schwarz, Lauryn Anglim and Gwen Lane each recorded a shot on frame.

In the second half, the Huskers recorded 11 shots, including a few late chances to score, but Washington’s Alex Buck stretched the Huskie lead to 2-0 after a turnover in the Husker backfield in the 68th minute.&nbsp;

Weber’s nine shots on the day brings her career total to 330, just shy of Meghan Anderson in second place in the Husker record books. Overall, 10 Huskers recorded at least one shot, and two Huskers played the complete game, Haley Peterson and Anglim.&nbsp;

The Huskers wrap up regular season play as they welcome Indiana to Hibner Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 27. Action is slated for 1:05 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.

Huskers fall to Washington, 2-0

CHADRON, Neb. – Four interceptions on four consecutive passes for the Eagle defense, including two returned for touchdowns, kickstarted a 24-point third quarter as the Chadron State football team put on a show for its homecoming crowd with a 55-13 win over Fort Lewis at Elliott Field at Don Beebe Stadium in Chadron.

The win propels the Eagles' 2024 record up to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the RMAC. Fort Lewis fell to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in RMAC play. In addition, Chadron State football improved its record on homecoming to 19-5 since the year 2000.

Safeties Dax Yeradi and Tucker Peterson each recorded pick-sixes as the Eagle defense overwhelmed the Grizzlies with four picks and 24 points in the span of five minutes of game time, turning a 24-0 halftime advantage into a 48-3 lead after three quarters.

Peterson also had a second interception, which he returned to the Fort Lewis seven-yard-line to set up a rushing score, while linebacker Xavier Harrell also came away with a pick.

Quarterback DJ Ralph threw for 157 yards while completing 12 of 21 attempts for a touchdown. Ralph also rushed for 44 net yards and a score on the ground, one of four rushing touchdowns for the Eagles on the day.

Jake Marschall had a pair of rushing touchdowns, from eight and three yards out, while freshman running back and Sargent, Nebraska native Quincey Ryker electrified the crowd in the second half with a 72-yard touchdown on his first college carry.

Both teams punted on their first possession of the game, but Chadron State found the end zone on their second. Ralph found Jamahd Monroe twice, once for 23 yards and once on a flea flicker deep down the middle for 42 yards, setting up a Ralph rushing touchdown from four yards out as the home team led 7-0 after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter, a 12-yard Dax Yeradi punt return gave Chadron State possession at the Fort Lewis 24-yard line to start their drive. A Ralph scramble picked up a first down before Jake Marschall punched it in on third-and-goal for an eight-yard touchdown to make it 14-0.

The Eagles' next drive stalled, but Wilson Yee nailed a 55-yard field goal to make it 17-0. The kick was Yee's second-longest of the season behind a 57-yarder he had earlier this year at Colorado Mesa.

Chadron State found paydirt again just before halftime, when Ralph found a wide-open Tommy Thomas in the end zone from eight yards out with 27 seconds left to give the Eagles a 24-0 lead heading into the locker room.

Fort Lewis got on the board early in the second half with a field goal, but midway through the third quarter came the avalanche. Fort Lewis, playing with a rotating cast of quarterbacks due to an injury to season-long start Stone Walker, began to press and Chadron State's ball-hawking secondary made play after play.

Yeradi sniffed out a screen pass, jumping the route and breaking away untouched for a 51-yard interception return TD to make it 31-3. It was Yeradi's third interception of the season, tying him for second in the RMAC in that category.

On FLC quarterback Jacob Morris's very next pass, Tucker Peterson stepped in front of a crossing route over the middle, catching it at the Skyhawks 45 and running it all the way down to the 7-yard-line before being caught from behind. Chadron State wasted little time cashing in, handing it to Jake Marschall twice, with the sophomore's second carry turning into a 3-yard touchdown run.

Lightning struck again, with Morris's very next pass intercepted by Xavier Harrell at the Fort Lewis 31. The Skyhawks defense held, with Yee kicking a 37-yard field goal to make it 41-3.

It seemed as though Petersen's opportunity for a pick-six had come and gone after being tackled in the red zone just four minutes before, but he would have a chance at redemption. Fort Lewis changed quarterbacks, but couldn't change the outcome, as Sam Jones's first pass found the arms of Peterson. This time, the sophomore safety would not be caught, running it back 30 yards for another Chadron State TD to make it 48-3.

Turnovers were a theme of the game. In addition to FLC's four interceptions, both teams lost one fumble each. Chadron State fumbled two more times in the fourth quarter, but were fortunate to recover both to keep the Eagles at just one turnover on the day.

Chadron State was able to empty the bench for much of the fourth quarter. Quarterbacks Miguel Larios and Kasey Jones saw garbage time action, with Jones making his collegiate debut.

Quincey Ryker, a true freshman running back out of Sargent, had a dream start to his college career with a 72-yard touchdown on his first carry to cap CSC's scoring, breaking one tackle and racing down the near sideline. Ryker finished with two carries for 80 yards.

Jamahd Monroe was CSC's leading receiver with four catches for 85 yards. Tommy Thomas also had four catches for 31 yards and a touchdown. Jake Marschall finished with 87 net rushing yards and two TD's on the ground.

Defensively, Reed Henkel led the Eagles with eight tackles while Liam Blaser had seven. Linebacker Logan O'Brien had a sack and 3.5 tackles for loss.
