District Cross Country Results - Multiple Teams Heading To State Next Week

The Nebraska soccer team scored the most goals since its season opener and defeated the USC Trojans, 3-2, on Thursday night in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Huskers moved to 8-3-5 on the season with a 3-3-3 mark in Big Ten play, while USC fell to 7-6-1 (4-5-0 Big Ten). NU's three goals were the most it has scored since a 6-0 rout of Southern Indiana in the season-opening match.

Ella Rudney, Mila Brach and Kayma Carpenter each logged a goal for NU, while Rudney, Carpenter, Sadie Waite and Reagan Raabe notched an assist apiece.&nbsp;

USC took 14 shots to Nebraska’s 12 and the Trojans had nine shots on target while NU had six. However, Cece Villa (7-3-5) posted seven saves in the net while the USC goalkeeper only had three.

The Big Red struck first, as Waite took advantage of a bad pass by the Trojans and Rudney finished off the score in the 23rd minute. USC tied it at 1-1 with just over five minutes to play in the half.

NU remained aggressive and took the 2-1 lead back in the 44th minute, when Brach grabbed her first career goal on an assist by Carpenter.&nbsp;

The Husker offense put the pressure on in the first half, taking nine shots and four on goal, while the Big Red defense only allowed three total shots by the Trojans. NU also took advantage of five offside calls on USC in the half.

Nebraska’s offense continued to control the game after the break and Carpenter scored her first goal since NU’s game against Kansas State to extend the advantage to 3-1. Raabe and Rudney added assists on the play.

The Trojans brought the score back to within one at 3-2 on a score in the 58th minute, but it wasn’t enough and the Huskers claimed the road victory.

The Big Red will stay in Los Angeles to take on the UCLA Bruins on Sunday, Oct. 19. The match is set to start at 3 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+.

🏐 Tuesday Prep Volleyball Scoreboard - October 14

Lincoln, Neb. – North Platte Community College volleyball closed out a three game road stretch with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-19 sweep of Southeast on Tuesday night.

Freshmen Makenna Stephenson and Khloee Wright powered the Knights with double digit kills. Stephenson closed the night with 11 kills and seven aces, while Wright finished with 10 kills.

North Platte hit an impressive .367 as a team, including a blistering .423 hitting percentage in the second set, where the Knights notched 13 kills on 26 attempts.

“I thought we struggled with serving at the beginning but did a good job cleaning that up,” said head coach Alexa McCall. “It was a good win that we needed.”

The Knights set the tone early in the first set, using a Stephenson kill to spark a 3-0 run and build a six-point lead. The Bobcats responded with a 5-0 surge of their own, but the Knights quickly regained control with an 8-1 run highlighted by three aces from Stephenson to take the first set.

Riding that momentum, the Knights jumped out to a commanding 14-4 lead in the second set. The Bobcats found some rhythm midway through the set, but a kill from Nya Lual put the Knights up 2-0.

Set three started as a back-and-forth battle, with the score knotted at 8-8. An ace from Zoe Maher shifted the momentum, and the Knights never trailed again. A late 6-2 run sparked by a Bobcat service error and kill from Taryn Stearns, helped secure the road sweep.

North Platte (10-14) returns to McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on Friday for a two game homestand beginning with Trinidad State College at 6 p.m.

North Platte will also host Otero Junior College on Saturday for a commemorative game. The athletic department will offer free admission to the game on Saturday.

 <li>Nine returning Huskers have notched new career highs in at least one category – Cece Villa (consecutive scoreless minutes), Ava Makovicka (points, goals, assists), Reagan Raabe (assists), Reese Borer (points, goals, assists), Sadie Waite (assists), Lauryn Anglim (goals) Maddy Osborn (saves), Ella Rudney (points, goals, assists) and Kayma Carpenter (points, goals, assists).&nbsp;</li><li>As a team, NU ranks first in the conference with 103 corner kicks and 265 shots and third with 30 assists.</li><li>The Big Red went undefeated through 10 games in 2025, including its whole non-conference slate. The last time NU went undefeated in non-conference play was 2000. The 2023 Huskers, who made the NCAA Elite Eight and won a Big Ten Championship, went undefeated through eight games.</li><li>NU has 11 regular-season home games scheduled for its 11th season at Hibner Stadium in 2025, which includes five non-conference matches and six Big Ten contests. She was injured in both 2023 and 2024, but was a third-team All-Big Ten honoree in 2021 and 2022. Raabe scored the Huskers’ lone goal of their exhibition matches, her first net since Sept. 11, 2022.&nbsp;</li><li>The Huskers welcomed 15 newcomers in 2025, including 13 freshmen and two transfers.  </ul>Scouting the USC Trojans<ul>
 <li>USC is 7-5-1 in 2025 with an even 4-4-0 mark in Big Ten games. The Trojans currently sit at seventh in the conference standings.</li><li>Jaiden Anderson and Maribel Flores each have six goals and four assists for USC. Ines Derrien adds four goals.&nbsp;</li><li>Bella Grust has started all 13 games in goal and allows 1.33 goals per game. She has 40 saves on the season.</li><li>Head coach Jane Alukonis is in her fourth season overall and at USC. She has amassed a 48-14-11 record in her career.&nbsp;</li><li>The Huskers are 3-2-1 all-time against USC. The two teams last met in 2022, and that matchup ended in a 1-1 tie.</li>
 </ul>Scouting the UCLA Bruins<ul>
 <li>UCLA is 8-4-2 overall this season with a 4-2-2 record in conference play. The Bruins sit at sixth in the Big Ten standings.</li><li>UCLA is first in the county with 0.36 goals allowed per game.</li><li>Bella Winn leads the Bruins with four goals, and Emma Egizii and Val Vargas each have contributed two.</li><li>Daphne Nakfoor has started 13 games in the net this year and allows 0.43 goals per game. She has racked up 37 saves.</li><li>Head coach Margueritte Aozasa has spent all four years of her career at UCLA. She owns a record of 63-12-7.</li><li>NU is 0-3-0 all-time against the Bruins. The two teams have not competed since 2016, when UCLA grabbed a 2-0 win.</li>

OGALLALA, Neb. — The Ogallala High School volleyball team continued its dominant season Monday night with a straight-set sweep over Sidney on Steve Morgan Court.

The win improved the Indians to 24-3 on the year and kept them atop the Class C1 wildcard standings with just two weeks left in the regular season.

The night also marked a special milestone for head coach Emma Trammell, who earned her 100th career victory.

Ogallala travels to North Platte St. Pat’s tonight. Coverage begins just before 6 p.m. Central on Flatrock 100.7 FM.

Ogallala Sweeps Sidney, Trammell Earns 100th Career Win

CHADRON, Neb. – After another prolific performance, this time against one of the top rushing attacks in Division II, Logan O'Brien has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.

O'Brien finished with a game-high 11 tackles (including seven solo stops) along with one tackle for loss and one sack to add to his league-leading totals in those categories during CSC's 37-20 win over New Mexico Highlands last Saturday. O'Brien was one of three RMAC players this week with double-digit tackles and the only one of the three to add a sack or tackle for loss to his ledger.

The redshirt senior linebacker racked up his stats on Saturday while leading the Eagles' response to New Mexico Highlands's vaunted rushing attack. The Cowboys entered the game averaging 309.4 rushing yards per contest, the third-most in Division II, and featured standout freshman running back Jeffrey Jones, the nation's leading rusher in yards per game at 223.3. 

O'Brien made 10 of his 11 tackles on rushing plays as Chadron State held Jones to only 16 yards in the second half and 38 in the final three quarters. With his win, O'Brien becomes the conference's first three-time winner of an RMAC weekly award this season. O'Brien previously took home the honor on September 15 (after eight tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a pick-six against Black Hills State) and the following week on September 22 (eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks against then-No. 23 Colorado School of Mines).  

The other RMAC weekly awards this week went to Western Colorado quarterback Drew Nash on offense and South Dakota Mines punter Bryson Patten for special teams.

The Chadron State defense is one of the more statistically impressive units in the RMAC. The Eagles rank third in the league in scoring defense (allowing 23.3 points per game), second in total defense (allowing 294.1 yards per game). The Eagles are the stingiest defense in the league against the pass, allowing only 146 yards per contest through the air (45 yards per game fewer than any other RMAC program) and rank No. 5 in the league against the running game.

Chadron State (5-2, 5-0 RMAC) will face Fort Lewis (1-5, 0-4 RMAC) on the road this upcoming Saturday, with kickoff slated for 12 p.m.

Nebraska junior outside hitter Harper Murray earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors on Monday, the conference office announced.&nbsp;

Murray and Penn State's Kennedy Martin were both named Player of the Week. It was Murray's first career Big Ten Player of the Week selection and the first Nebraska player to earn Big Ten Player of the Week since Merritt Beason on Nov. 6, 2023.&nbsp;

Murray put together two dominant all-around performances in Nebraska's sweeps of Washington and No. 12 Purdue over the weekend.&nbsp;The two-time All-American made plays all over the court at Purdue on Sunday with 16 kills on 25 error-free swings for a career-high .640 hitting percentage, along with five digs, four set assists, two service aces and two blocks.

On Friday at home against Washington, Murray once again led the balanced Husker attack with 12 kills with just one error for a .407 hitting percentage, as well as seven digs, three blocks, one ace and one set assist.

In total, Murray averaged 4.67 kills per set on a .519 hitting percentage. She had 28 kills with just one attacking error in 52 swings. Murray was the only player in the country with 50 or more swings to commit one or fewer errors. She also added 2.00 digs per set and received 11 serves without a reception error. Murray's three aces on the week moved her to No. 10 in school history in career aces with 90, and she is now within 12 kills of 1,000 in her career.&nbsp;

Day 1 results from NSAA Girl's State Golf

CHADRON, Neb. – With Division II's leader in rushing yards per game on the other sideline, Chadron State redshirt freshman running back Quincey Ryker stole the show with 220 yards and three touchdowns on the ground as Chadron State won its fifth straight RMAC game by defeating New Mexico Highlands 37-20 at Elliott Field.

The shifty Ryker was outstanding while scoring on touchdown runs of 62, 10 and 21 yards and racking up 155 rushing yards in the first half. The former 8-man all-stater from Sargent, Nebraska, is the first Chadron State back to eclipse 200 yards since Kevin Coy, Jr. ran for 207 against South Dakota Mines in 2018. Ryker's 220 yards rushing is CSC's single-game highest since Glen Clinton ran for 242 yards against Western New Mexico in 2013.

The Eagles got their fourth and final touchdown on a 32-yard pass from quarterback Aidan Thompson to Tommy Thomas, and the same duo also connected for a two-point conversion. In addition, Wilson Yee kicked field goals of 30 and 41 yards and made all three of the extra points he attempted, and the Eagles added in a safety late in first half, part of a 12-0 scoring advantage in the second quarter that turned the tide of the game.

New Mexico Highlands freshman sensation Jeffery Jones, who drew national attention by rushing for an NCAA Division II National freshman record 385 yards during the second game of his career a month ago, gave the Eagles a challenge. Jones broke free for a 74-yard touchdown on the game's second play and also scored on a 36-yard burst late in the opening quarter to give Highlands an early 14-3 lead. He would carry 13 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns, but managed only 16 of those yards in the second half. 

Ryker broke loose for his 62-yard scamper to make the score 14-10, the second-longest run of his career after his 72-yard touchdown on the first carry of his career against Fort Lewis during last season's homecoming contest in 2024. Ryker then capped off an eight-play, 86-yard drive with his 10-yard TD to give the Eagles their first lead at 17-14 with 2:13 remaining in the first half.

Chadron State's defense answered the bell against Highlands after the couple of early long runs. The Eagles forced a red-zone fumble, caused by Ryder True and recovered by Dax Yeradi, to take points off the board for the Cowboys, then overpowered Highlands on another drive to cause a safety. They initially sacked quarterback Collin Stucki, a freshman making his first start for the Cowboys, then caused him to be penalized for intentional grounding on the next play. With the ball on NMHU's own five-yard line, CSC was awarded the safety when the Cowboys were called for holding in the end zone while Stucki was attempting to pass again. After a Yee field goal, the Eagles led 22-14 at halftime.

New Mexico Highlands had the game's only third-quarter points on a drive that featured a 41-yard hookup from Stucki to Jones as a receiver before Jones rushed it in for a six-yard TD. Highlands attempted a two-point conversion that would have tied the game, but were unsuccessful, and CSC's lead remained 22-20.

The Eagles were the only team to score in the fourth frame. They had driven 45 yards to the Highlands' 20 in eight plays when the third quarter ended. After an incomplete pass, Ryker broke a couple of tackle attempts and dashed into the end zone for his third TD to give the Eagles some breathing room.

On Highlands' ensuing possession, Stucki hit wide receiver Maurice Collier with a 41-yard pass that carried to the Eagles' 19, where safety Dax Yeradi made a diving shoestring tackle. But the threat soon ended, when CSC safety Tucker Peterson forced the next Cowboys' receiver to fumble and the ball was recovered by Eagles' linebacker Reese Jacobs. 

With the Eagles striving to drain the clock, they ran six consecutive rushing plays before Thompson, after faking a handoff, rolled out to his left and lofted a pass over the head of a Highlands defensive back and into the hands of Thomas, who made his eighth touchdown reception of the season. Their two-point conversion pass provided the 17-point cushion in the final score.

The Eagles finished with 420 total net yards, rushing for 292 yards, while Thompson, who took all the snaps at quarterback, completed 11 of 18 passes for 128 yards. Thomas was the leading receiver with four catches for 61 yards.

Led by Jones and sophomore Tevita Valeti, who rushed 14 times for 60 yards, the Cowboys finished with 258 yards on the ground. Stucki completed eight of 11 passes for 107 yards.

Linebacker Logan O'Brien was the winners' busiest tackler with 11 total tackles, seven solos and four assists. End Ryder True participated in nine stops while Yeradi made eight and linebacker Cooper Walton six to set the pace. 

At 5-2 overall and 5-0 in the RMAC, Chadron State remains one of three unbeaten teams in the conference alongside Western Colorado and CSU Pueblo. The Eagles face Fort Lewis on the road next Saturday.

 </figure>By: Con Marshall CSC Sports InformationCHADRON, Neb. – With Division II's leader in rushing yards per game on the other sideline, Chadron State redshirt freshman running back Quincey Ryker stole the show with 220 yards and three touchdowns on the ground as Chadron State won its fifth straight RMAC game by defeating New Mexico Highlands 37-20 at Elliott Field.The shifty Ryker was outstanding while scoring on touchdown runs of 62, 10 and 21 yards and racking up 155 rushing yards in the first half. The former 8-man all-stater from Sargent, Nebraska, is the first Chadron State back to eclipse 200 yards since Kevin Coy, Jr. ran for 207 against South Dakota Mines in 2018. Ryker's 220 yards rushing is CSC's single-game highest since Glen Clinton ran for 242 yards against Western New Mexico in 2013.The Eagles got their fourth and final touchdown on a 32-yard pass from quarterback Aidan Thompson to Tommy Thomas, and the same duo also connected for a two-point conversion. In addition, Wilson Yee kicked field goals of 30 and 41 yards and made all three of the extra points he attempted, and the Eagles added in a safety late in first half, part of a 12-0 scoring advantage in the second quarter that turned the tide of the game.New Mexico Highlands freshman sensation Jeffery Jones, who drew national attention by rushing for an NCAA Division II National freshman record 385 yards during the second game of his career a month ago, gave the Eagles a challenge. Jones broke free for a 74-yard touchdown on the game's second play and also scored on a 36-yard burst late in the opening quarter to give Highlands an early 14-3 lead. He would carry 13 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns, but managed only 16 of those yards in the second half. Ryker broke loose for his 62-yard scamper to make the score 14-10, the second-longest run of his career after his 72-yard touchdown on the first carry of his career against Fort Lewis during last season's homecoming contest in 2024. Ryker then capped off an eight-play, 86-yard drive with his 10-yard TD to give the Eagles their first lead at 17-14 with 2:13 remaining in the first half.Chadron State's defense answered the bell against Highlands after the couple of early long runs. The Eagles forced a red-zone fumble, caused by Ryder True and recovered by Dax Yeradi, to take points off the board for the Cowboys, then overpowered Highlands on another drive to cause a safety. They initially sacked quarterback Collin Stucki, a freshman making his first start for the Cowboys, then caused him to be penalized for intentional grounding on the next play. With the ball on NMHU's own five-yard line, CSC was awarded the safety when the Cowboys were called for holding in the end zone while Stucki was attempting to pass again. After a Yee field goal, the Eagles led 22-14 at halftime.New Mexico Highlands had the game's only third-quarter points on a drive that featured a 41-yard hookup from Stucki to Jones as a receiver before Jones rushed it in for a six-yard TD. Highlands attempted a two-point conversion that would have tied the game, but were unsuccessful, and CSC's lead remained 22-20.The Eagles were the only team to score in the fourth frame. They had driven 45 yards to the Highlands' 20 in eight plays when the third quarter ended. After an incomplete pass, Ryker broke a couple of tackle attempts and dashed into the end zone for his third TD to give the Eagles some breathing room.On Highlands' ensuing possession, Stucki hit wide receiver Maurice Collier with a 41-yard pass that carried to the Eagles' 19, where safety Dax Yeradi made a diving shoestring tackle. But the threat soon ended, when CSC safety Tucker Peterson forced the next Cowboys' receiver to fumble and the ball was recovered by Eagles' linebacker Reese Jacobs. With the Eagles striving to drain the clock, they ran six consecutive rushing plays before Thompson, after faking a handoff, rolled out to his left and lofted a pass over the head of a Highlands defensive back and into the hands of Thomas, who made his eighth touchdown reception of the season. Their two-point conversion pass provided the 17-point cushion in the final score.The Eagles finished with 420 total net yards, rushing for 292 yards, while Thompson, who took all the snaps at quarterback, completed 11 of 18 passes for 128 yards. Thomas was the leading receiver with four catches for 61 yards.Led by Jones and sophomore Tevita Valeti, who rushed 14 times for 60 yards, the Cowboys finished with 258 yards on the ground. Stucki completed eight of 11 passes for 107 yards.Linebacker Logan O'Brien was the winners' busiest tackler with 11 total tackles, seven solos and four assists. End Ryder True participated in nine stops while Yeradi made eight and linebacker Cooper Walton six to set the pace. At 5-2 overall and 5-0 in the RMAC, Chadron State remains one of three unbeaten teams in the conference alongside Western Colorado and CSU Pueblo. The Eagles face Fort Lewis on the road next Saturday.

The Nebraska soccer team took a season-high 12 shots on goal and 29 total and downed the Maryland Terrapins, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Barbara Hibner Stadium.&nbsp;

NU also dominated on the defensive side, allowing only six shots and one on target. The Huskers spent almost 80% of their time of possession on Maryland’s half of the field. The Big Red had nine corner kicks to zero from the Terps. UMD had 10 saves.&nbsp;

The Huskers improved to 7-3-5 on the season with a 2-3-3 mark in Big Ten competition, while the Terrapins fell to 6-9-0 (2-6-0 Big Ten).&nbsp;

Lauryn Anglim scored the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in the 39th minute of the game and Ella Rudney extended the lead to 2-0 with a score in the bottom of the net, assisted by Reagan Raabe.&nbsp;

Raabe took a game-high five shots with two on target and Jo Sees and Kayma Carpenter added four shots apiece. Raabe had the Huskers’ lone assist of the game. Cece Villa (6-3-5) grabbed the win in goal with her sixth shutout of the season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NU’s backfield allowed only one shot in the period and none on goal. Raabe and Sees led the Big Red, which took 20 shots in the half, with three shots apiece going into the break.&nbsp;

The Huskers will play their final road games of the season against USC and No. 9 UCLA on Thursday, Oct. 16 and Sunday, Oct. 19, respectively. Both games will be streamed on B1G+.&nbsp;
