Laura Christine “Chris” (Engleman) Effenbeck, age 73, of North Platte, passed away March 4, 2026 at GPRMC, surrounded by her family.
She was born February 17, 1953, to Barbara and Scotty Engleman. Chris spent many years serving others through her work. She began as a waitress at the airport restaurant and later worked as both a cook and waitress at the Best Western restaurant. It was during her time at The Eagles Club that she met her husband, Roger. They were married in December 1987. Chris later worked in the cafeteria at Adam’s Middle School, where she truly found joy. She loved the students, and they loved her right back.
Family meant everything to Chris. She proudly cheered on her daughter, Whitney, during softball games and was overjoyed to see her granddaughter, Kylie, share that same love for the sport. Chris also enjoyed playing bingo- often managing 12 cards at once- but her greatest happiness came from spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Chris is survived by her husband, Roger; son, John Engleman, granddaughter, Kylie (Daniel) Silva, great-granddaughter, Harper, and grandson, Tyler Engleman; daughter, Whitney (Justin) Petska, and granddaughters, Kenzie, Lexie, and Carleigh; daughter, Kristie Effenbeck, grandsons, Deon, Dillon, Yorick, and Shaun Wilson, and greatgrandchildren, Sarah, MacKenzie, Avery, Salem, and Sterling Wilson; daughter, Shawna (Erik) Cassen, and grandson, Glenn; brother, Terry (Wendy) Engleman; nieces, Sara (Brandon) Wilson, and their children, Junior and Brianna, Joanna (Mike) Hoover, and their child, Kane; and brother, Steve.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott Engleman and Barbara O’Brien; and brothers, Eddie, Randy, Harold, and Kevin.
