United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Nicandro Garcia Perez, age 40, of Mexico, was sentenced on February 6, 2025, in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska for one count of possession with intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis sentenced Garcia Perez to a total of 46 months’ imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. After Garcia Perez’s release from prison, he will begin a 2-year term of supervised release.

On June 9, 2023, Garcia Perez was contacted by a Nebraska State Patrol trooper at a rest stop along Interstate 80 outside of York, Nebraska.  The two engaged in conversation for a period of time before the trooper asked Garcia Perez for consent to search the vehicle.  Garcia Perez consented to the search.  The trooper began the search and in the back of the vehicle, under the spare tire area, the trooper found multiple square white packages, consistent with cocaine.  The trooper also found additional bricks underneath the second and third row seats in the vehicle.  Twenty-two bricks in total were found, for a total weight of 55.86 pounds or 25.33 kilograms.

This case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol.
