Chadron Police arrest 20-year-old with connections to last week's burglary

Update:

The investigation has been ongoing for the last day and a half, and several witnesses have been interviewed. Based on the video surveillance, photographs and statements from witnesses, the Chadron Police Department has arrested a suspect in this case.  20-year-old Sylvanus Lame Jr. was placed under arrest on Friday, December 29, 2023. Lame was booked into custody at the Dawes County Jail for Burglary (a class IIA felony), Criminal Mischief (a class III misdemeanor) and Theft by exercising Control (a class II misdemeanor).

The Chadron Police Department wants to thank everyone who has called into the department with information on this case. The public’s assistance played a vital role in identifying the suspect and making an arrest. The investigation is still continuing, and evidence is still being processed. On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at approximately 10:47 pm, the Chadron Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at a 301 East Third Street, Homer’s Eagles Roost. Upon arrival, Officers located the glass of the front door to the business broken. The officers cleared the building, locating nobody inside the business at the time of their arrival.

Officer Cafferty and Officer Hanson took photographs and gathered evidence at the scene. In addition, they were provided with video surveillance and pictures of a male suspect, who is pictured below. The video showed the suspect fleeing east on East Third Street.
