(LINCOLN, NEB.) — The summer travel season is coming to a close and the Nebraska State Patrol is encouraging safe travel this Labor Day Weekend.
“Whether you’re staying close to home or taking a road trip this weekend, keep safe driving at the top of your priority list,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Our troopers will be on patrol across the state to help keep roadways safe during this final weekend of the summer travel season.”
In the month of August, troopers made 119 arrests for impaired driving and issued citations for 112 drivers speeding at or above 100 miles per hour. Troopers also performed over 1,100 motorist assists during August.
NSP also advises Nebraskans to be aware of the hot temperatures expected across the state this weekend. Temps could reach triple digits again this weekend in many areas of Nebraska. NSP advises all motorists to take extra water on road trips and make sure cell phones are charged to call for help if necessary. The NSP Highway Helpline is always available at *55 or 800-525-5555 to speak directly with an NSP dispatcher.
Labor Day Weekend also closes out the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which began on August 16. The campaign includes NSP and many other Nebraska law enforcement agencies thanks in part to grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.
