(McCook, Neb.) — Weather permitting, work is scheduled to resume July 8 on the District 7 Wetland Bank project located on US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) property one mile southwest of Orleans on USACE Road 16, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT).

NDOT has been working with the USACE Harlan office to develop a wetland mitigation bank and make improvements to the surrounding USACE roads. Paul Reed Construction Inc. of Gering is the contractor for this project. The work on this project will consist of clearing, grubbing and excavation of the mitigation site. The adjacent roadways will be graded to improve the condition and elevation of the dirt surface.

There will also be culvert work and seeding on the project. Starting July 8, Corp Road 16 and access to USACE property will be closed to public traffic. Tenants will still have access to their property for farming but will need to coordinate activities with Paul Reed Construction prior to entering. Access restrictions will be lifted when construction is complete. It is anticipated that construction will be completed by Oct. 2024.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
