Two charged in South-Central Nebraska with intentional child abuse

Phelps County Attorney and Holdrege Police Department joint press release

Holdrege, Neb. - Jason Remmenga, 24, of Holdrege, has been charged with intentional child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. Holdrege Police Department Officers were notified that Remmenga took his four-month-old daughter to the emergency room on May 20, 2024. Medical staff later determined that the child had severe, nonaccidental, abusive head trauma.

The child remains in critical condition at Children’s Hospital in Omaha. The mother of the juvenile, Elaina Nietfeld, 21 of Holdrege, has also been charged with intentional child abuse. The Holdrege Police Department’s investigation is currently ongoing.
