Nov. 7, 2024 (North Platte, Neb.) — Weather permitting, an overnight closure will be in place Wednesday, Nov. 13, on B Street at the Jeffers Street intersection, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.&nbsp;

The east and west legs of the B Street and Jeffers Street intersection will be closed for both eastbound and westbound traffic beginning at 6:00 p.m. and are anticipated to be open by 7:00 a.m. Motorists are advised to utilize alternate routes during this time-period.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paulsen, Inc of Cozad is the contractor for this project. The closure is for installation of new traffic signals at the B Street and Jeffers Street intersection.&nbsp;

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.&nbsp;

The event is free and open to the public. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon in Rooms 105, 107 and 109 of the W.W. Wood Building on the NPCC North Campus, 1101 Halligan Drive, in North Platte.

The fair will provide job seekers with an opportunity to network with representatives from area businesses and learn about open positions in a variety of applied technology-related fields.

The day has finally come, it's election day in America at the presidential, federal, state and local level. The polls are open until 8:00pm tonight and just a reminder to bring your photo ID with you to vote.&nbsp;

Starting this evening, the POST will have coverage with updates on how the presidential, federal, state and local government results are going. Also starting this evening around 8:00pm (CT)/7:00pm (MT), the POST will have live updates on all radio stations throughout the evening and into the night with the latest updates on how election results are going at all levels. 2024 POST Election Day coverage

NORTH PLATTE – The 22nd annual G.R.E.E.N. fundraising event for the North Platte Catholic Schools was&nbsp; held on Saturday, October 26th at St. Patrick High School. Generating Resources for Educational&nbsp; Excellence Now is the largest single event of the year for the North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment Trust, which serves as the fundraising arm for the Catholic school system.

 The event hosted over 260 guests Saturday and featured nearly 150 items on silent and live auctions. Though not yet final,&nbsp; Endowment Director Wendy Dodson estimates net proceeds will easily exceed $250,000, which will set&nbsp; a new record for the event that began in 2003. North Platte Police continues searching for 16-year-old missing/runaway juvenile from September

LINCOLN&nbsp; — Attention Nebraska voters:&nbsp;Those of you who haven’t voted yet have spent months being bombarded by ads and text messages, campaign mailers and news coverage. You’re ready to vote.

But just a reminder before you head to the polls: Take along a photo ID.

The state’s voters passed a constitutional amendment in 2022 requiring a picture ID to vote, and the Legislature in 2023 specified what types of identification would be accepted.&nbsp;

Primary election voters have already done the ID drill, but this is the first statewide general election since the changes. If you forget an ID, you’ll have to go home to get it and return, or you’ll have to vote provisionally, taking an ID to your county election office after Election Day.

If you’re planning on voting early in person on Monday, you’ll need to present a state-approved ID at your county election office.

Monday is the last day to vote in person at a county clerk’s office or county election office. But voters can still return early ballots to a county drop box until 8 p.m. Central Tuesday.

By now, it is too late to put a ballot in the mail. Mailed ballots have to be received by counties before the close of in-person voting at 8 p.m. Central Tuesday.

If Nebraska’s most populous county is any indication, voter turnout in the 2024 presidential election could be extraordinary.&nbsp;

Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse last week predicted a 73% overall voter turnout in the county, including ballots cast on Election Day, but he said it could reach 75%.

Turnout for the 2020 presidential election was 74.6%, aided in part by an overwhelming amount of early voting by mail related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Typical presidential turnout in Douglas is a little lower, with the two previous statewide presidential general elections seeing turnout of 69.7% in 2016 and 68.9% in 2012.

Rain or shine, daily lines around the Douglas County Election Commission have snaked around the building, with people standing outside for an hour or longer, officials said.

“The rain didn’t deter them one bit,” Kruse said.

Some 17,455 people had voted early in person by Friday morning at the west Omaha office. Kruse projected that up to 22,000 people would vote by late Monday. In 2020, 14,282 people voted early in-person.

Kruse said that his office has had virtually no problems so far and that elections are safe and secure. He said people waiting in line have been “making new friends, visiting with each other.”

Kruse said he remains confident in the overall process. He called high interest in voting this year a sign that “our democracy is alive and well.”

“Voters should be assured that elections in Douglas County and across Nebraska are safe and secure,” Kruse said.

People choosing to vote in person on Tuesday should plan for a little extra time, with higher-than-usual interest in the election, election officials urged.

Polling places are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mountain Time on Tuesday. You can check your polling place online at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/voterview" target="_blank">https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/voterview</a>.&nbsp;

Poll watchers from both major parties will monitor polling sites statewide. Voting advocacy groups encouraged anyone facing problems to report them.

Common Cause Nebraska is hosting a toll-free voter hotline at 866-687-8683. Civic Nebraska is operating a Voter Help Line at 402-890-5291.&nbsp;

State law in Nebraska, as in many states, does not let election officials count early voting ballots until Election Day. That slows results and often leads to longer waits for results in more populous counties.

The state will start posting unofficial election results online starting at 8 p.m. Central or 7 p.m. Mountain Tuesday at&nbsp;<a href="http://electionresults.nebraska.gov/" target="_blank">electionresults.nebraska.gov</a>.

It will update those results every five minutes until the last county election officials have called it a night, often long after midnight.&nbsp;

Some counties also run their own separate results sites that are updated throughout the night. Douglas and Sarpy Counties, for instance, start releasing early voting ballot counts at 8 p.m.&nbsp;

The biggest jump in votes counted after Election Day typically comes on Friday. Douglas County does not open and count its early votes returned on Election Day until Friday.

That is often thousands of votes, but historically, those votes have rarely changed race outcomes, except in races with the narrowest of leads.&nbsp;

Results from those early ballots returned to the election commission on Election Day tend to follow the same pattern as the first wave of early balloting results on Tuesday.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. - Shea Simmons, Great Plains Health RN&nbsp; and manager of wound care, is the Great Plains Health Caring Kind Award recipient for&nbsp; 2024.&nbsp;

A longstanding tradition of the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA), the award pays&nbsp; tribute to outstanding healthcare employees who have demonstrated compassion for&nbsp; patients, cooperation with coworkers and dedication to excellence in the role they play&nbsp; at their facility.&nbsp;

Each year, NHA member hospitals and health care systems select one person from&nbsp; their organization to recognize at the NHA's annual convention and special awards&nbsp; luncheon, held October 18 in La Vista.&nbsp;

"Shea's genuine dedication to patient care shines through in everything she does," says&nbsp; Misti Hutchison, chief provider network officer, at Great Plains Health. "Her expertise in&nbsp; wound care, combined with her compassionate approach, creates an environment&nbsp; where patients feel truly cared for and understood."&nbsp;

Known for her collaborative spirit, Simmons works closely with providers, long-term care&nbsp; facilities, and home health services to ensure comprehensive patient care. She has&nbsp; developed resources for staff and consistently stays current with the latest wound care&nbsp; therapies to improve patient outcomes.&nbsp;

Her nomination read in part, "From a warm welcome in the morning to late evening&nbsp; discussions surrounding best practice, Shea's dedication to the patient, as well as the&nbsp; community, is second to none."&nbsp;

2024 marks the 45th anniversary of the NHA Caring Kind Awards. Since its inception,&nbsp; the program has honored nearly 2,900 of Nebraska's most dedicated hospital and&nbsp; health system employees. Each year, NHA member institutions select one outstanding&nbsp; individual to be recognized at the annual convention.

 </figure>Great Plains HealthNORTH PLATTE, Neb. - Shea Simmons, Great Plains Health RN&nbsp; and manager of wound care, is the Great Plains Health Caring Kind Award recipient for&nbsp; 2024.&nbsp;A longstanding tradition of the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA), the award pays&nbsp; tribute to outstanding healthcare employees who have demonstrated compassion for&nbsp; patients, cooperation with coworkers and dedication to excellence in the role they play&nbsp; at their facility.&nbsp;Each year, NHA member hospitals and health care systems select one person from&nbsp; their organization to recognize at the NHA's annual convention and special awards&nbsp; luncheon, held October 18 in La Vista.&nbsp;"Shea's genuine dedication to patient care shines through in everything she does," says&nbsp; Misti Hutchison, chief provider network officer, at Great Plains Health. "Her expertise in&nbsp; wound care, combined with her compassionate approach, creates an environment&nbsp; where patients feel truly cared for and understood."&nbsp;Known for her collaborative spirit, Simmons works closely with providers, long-term care&nbsp; facilities, and home health services to ensure comprehensive patient care. She has&nbsp; developed resources for staff and consistently stays current with the latest wound care&nbsp; therapies to improve patient outcomes.&nbsp;Her nomination read in part, "From a warm welcome in the morning to late evening&nbsp; discussions surrounding best practice, Shea's dedication to the patient, as well as the&nbsp; community, is second to none."&nbsp;2024 marks the 45th anniversary of the NHA Caring Kind Awards. Since its inception,&nbsp; the program has honored nearly 2,900 of Nebraska's most dedicated hospital and&nbsp; health system employees. Each year, NHA member institutions select one outstanding&nbsp; individual to be recognized at the annual convention.

North Platte, Neb. - Additional North Platte Police Department officers worked seventeen hours of grant funded overtime during Halloween.&nbsp; Officers made a total of 16 traffic contacts department wide.&nbsp;

 One citation was issued for Speeding, one for a stop sign violation two citations were issued for registration violations and two citations were issued for no insurance. The North Platte Police Department wants to thank residents for making this Halloween a safe one.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Ogallala, Ne -&nbsp;The Keith County Area Development and Mid-Plains Community College 2024 EXCEL Tour was a HUGE Success last week! About 75 high school freshman students from Paxton Consolidated Schools, and Ogallala Public Schools had the opportunity to spend their morning touring different professional industries right here in Keith County.

KCAD said in a release, "We are so grateful for this year's participants Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the Keith County Chamber, Ogallala City Panel, and Sapp Bros. Petroleum."&nbsp; The goal of these EXCEL Tours is to inform local students about the diverse professional career opportunities that already exist right here in their own backyard. "We hope this information encourages students to consider joining the workforce in Keith County after graduation."

When asked about their favorite piece of knowledge gained through EXCEL, one of our students said, "I didn't know that there are really cool things to do in Ogallala, and thanks to EXCEL now I do. Coming to this makes me want to come back to Ogallala."&nbsp;

November 1, 2024 (Lincoln, Neb.)&nbsp;&nbsp;— After several weeks on the road, the Huskers return home to Memorial Stadium tomorrow and the Nebraska State Patrol encourages fans to be focused for an important gameday.

“It will be great to get Husker fans back together in Lincoln on Saturday. Let’s all work together to make gameday safe on the roads and at the stadium,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “With a chance for rain during and after the game, fans should be patient on their drive home and be very cautious around pedestrians.”

The Nebraska State Patrol works closely with partner agencies on several aspects of gameday operations. Troopers partner with the Lincoln Police Department, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, UNL Police Department, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation to keep fans safe as they travel to and from the game, as well as in and around Memorial Stadium.

NSP also encourages fans to check Nebraska 511 for the latest information on construction zones and any potential detours that may become necessary. Fans can hear traffic reports from Trooper Brett before and after the game on the Huskers Radio Network broadcasts.

On the road:&nbsp;Fans should use routes recommended by the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Fans coming from the east should take I-180 into downtown Lincoln. Fans coming from the west should take Highway 77 to Rosa Parks Ways into downtown Lincoln.

In the stadium:&nbsp;Fans in need of assistance should contact any law enforcement officer or member of event staff. Fans can also text 402-472-0800 to reach stadium dispatch for assistance.

Anyone who observes a reckless driver or anyone in need of non-emergency roadside assistance can call *55 to reach the Nebraska State Patrol Highway Helpline. NSP’s portion of this effort is made possible thanks in part to grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.

Troopers Encourage Safety as Huskers Return to Action in Lincoln

Holyoke, Colorado - On Thursday, 10/31/2024, the Holyoke Police Department was dispatched to the Melissa Memorial Hospital for a report of a bomb threat to the facility. Holyoke PD requested assistance from the Holyoke Fire Department and received additional assistance from deputies of the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office.

Due to safety concerns, the threat was treated as a real-world incident and evacuations of the hospital facility were initiated. Upon arrival of the responding agencies, an incident command post was established, and a search of the building was initiated by first responders. During this time, contact was made with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigations to advise them of the incident. 

A systematic sweep of the building was conducted by first responders who found no evidence of explosives or additional threats to the building or staff members. A suspicious backpack was located by the search teams who were able to determine that it was not related to the incident. Approximately 1 hour after the initial call, Holyoke Police Department gave the “All Clear” and returned staff members and patients to the hospital. Working with our law enforcement and medical partners, it was found that the threat was made to several hospitals in Colorado. 

Initial investigations found no evidence of explosive devices at any of the facilities. Both the CBI and FBI are conducting an investigation into the incidents around the state and the Holyoke Police Department is cooperating with the investigation. We would like to thank the Melissa Memorial Hospital staff members for their quick and professional actions during this time. We would also like to give our sincere thanks to the Holyoke Fire Department, the Holyoke EMS team, the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, and State of Colorado Emergency Management Field Manager Bob Heldenbrad for all their help in resolving this matter quickly and professionally.&nbsp;&nbsp;
