North Platte, Neb. - 4-H is America's largest youth development program across the United States that helps learn skills that will last a lifetime. The age requirement for 4-H is the ages of 8-18. There are many different categories that 4-H'ers can participate in during their time in the program including the clothing project.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Local 4-H'r Oakley Staab recently got involved with 4-H and doing different categories working with animals and even sewed a pillow for the clothing project. Staab comes from a long history of having family being involved with 4- H.

Sidney, Ne - The POST is happy to spotlight Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney, Nebraska and what this medical facility is doing to offer state of the art cancer treatment with their providers, equipment and resources. 

Eagle's Derek Beck spent an afternoon at Sidney Regional Medical Center this month and had an oppourtunity to sit down and talk with SRMC Radiology Director Adam Stevens, Joy Batt, ARNP, A-GNP-C, and Julie Shoemaker, Director of Growth and Development. The trio spoke about detection of breast cancer, how SRMC offers new state of the art services, along with preventative measures that both women and men should look for. During the conversation Stevens told the POST about the Center's 3D mammogram machine, Ultrasound machine, along with mentioning that SRMC is also accredited by the American Association of Radiology and the Food and Drug Administration under the M-Q-S-A Act. North Platte, Neb. - Community members will gather on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd at Venue 304 in North Platte to hear the finalists' pitches for this year's Big Idea North Platte. The social hour begins at 5:00pm with live pitches beginning at 6:00pm. Changes have been made for this year's program which has the contestants meet with Individual's to chat about their product. Voting/judging has been changed for this year's event as well.&nbsp;

Contestants in the community category are competing for prizes. 1st place is $10,000, 2nd place is 5,000, and 3rd place is $2,500. The youth category is competing for scholarships to Mid-Plains Community College and the prizes are 1st place is $2,500, 2nd place is $1,500, and 3rd place is $1,000.&nbsp;

North Platte, Neb. - The 29th FNBO Chili Cook-Off to kick off the 2024-2025 Mid-Plains United Way campaign year was a huge success raising nearly $5000. The weather was perfect, and guests got to enjoy around 20 different booths of chili. Attendees voted for the best booth, best chili and voted for who got pied in the face.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tonight, the Mid-Plains United Way is hosting a fundraiser event at Raisin Canes in North Platte from 5:00pm-9:00pm. When ordering, make sure to let Canes know you are there for the Mid-Plains United Way fundraiser and 15% of sales will go towards the united way.&nbsp;

(Audio) Mid-Plains United Way: FNBO Chili Cook-Off recap, Canes Fundraiser event tonight and more!

Paxton, Ne – If you’ve driven through the small town of
Paxton in Keith County this summer, you may have noticed multiple seed corn
signs south of Highway 30 on the west side of town south of town. That ground
near the Paxton Schools Bus Barn is owned by the Paxton Consolidated School
District and used to be farmed by local farmers in the area…until last year. The POST spoke with Paxton Consolidated Schools Industrial Arts Teacher Corey Turner and Sophomore Landon Drews in a sit down recently. 

Mr. Turner said that Paxton Superintendent Del Dack had come to him two years ago, "he asked me if the FFA chapter would like to farm the ground down by the Schools Barn along Highway 30. I thought it'd be an opportunity for a kid. I had a senior year plant wheat the first year, and then spring of last year I went to Landon to ask of his interest. Then last fall he went to school board and they approved him to go ahead with it and he started getting the field, cleaned up. He's gone way beyond what I thought was gonna happen with it."

Landon Drews is a sophomore at Paxton, he was only a
Freshman when he was asked about taking on this FFA project. Drews went before the Paxton School Board last fall to find out if he could get sponsors to help him plant his corn crop. He say's that was a big part of this FFA project. "&nbsp; I think that part was the most important, getting in contact that was pretty easy to do. I know most of the guys around here, you call one guy and say hey would you like to be a part of the Paxton FFA and support us and they just all wanted to be part of it. They had no worries about it. We have six different dealers that helped support us so we had Channel, DeKalb, Golden Harvest, Becks, Hoegemeyer, and Pioneer. Hi-Line Coop sprayed the corn and Harden Agency insured the crop from hail over the summer." Drews says it took them 5 1/2 hours plant that little peice of land because every time you went out, you had to come back and clean out the seed boxes on the planter.

In all it’s about 10 acres of dryland corn Drews and his
volunteers planted, Mr. Turner has used Landon’s project to teach others in his
class about putting a crop in the ground and tending to it, "I was able to take my students down. All of our FFA members got to go down and they helped clean out the planter and they got to ride in the tractor. We talked to different different dealers and they told them about the different varieties of seeds that they were putting in. So I mean that day right there was worth it to me just to get those other kids who don’t have the experience that Landon does. They don’t have the knowledge that he does in farming, and now they got some of that experience and knowledge firsthand.

On Wednesday, October 30th, Drews plans to
harvest his crop. Claas, Nebraska Harvest Center, in Ogallala is donating a combine to come pick the corn. Mr. Turner said the day will be a fun filled day for the entire Paxton School system. Elementary kids plan to come watch part of the day, his FFA and agriculture students plan to help also. Landon has also reached out to locals in the community who are donating hamburger which they cook burgers for the kids that day at the harvest site.&nbsp;

Mr. Turner says after the crop is out they plan to mill some
of the corn for feed that they’ll use to feed 3 cows the FFA tends too over the
winter, and likely they’ll put the cows out on the stocks over the winter.

                    </figure><p><i>North Platte Post/Sandhills Post/Panhandle Post</i></p><p>Paxton, Ne – If you’ve driven through the small town of
Paxton in Keith County this summer, you may have noticed multiple seed corn
signs south of Highway 30 on the west side of town south of town. That ground
near the Paxton Schools Bus Barn is owned by the Paxton Consolidated School
District and used to be farmed by local farmers in the area…until last year. The POST spoke with Paxton Consolidated Schools Industrial Arts Teacher Corey Turner and Sophomore Landon Drews in a sit down recently. </p><p>Mr. Turner said that Paxton Superintendent Del Dack had come to him two years ago, "he asked me if the FFA chapter would like to farm the ground down by the Schools Barn along Highway 30. I thought it'd be an opportunity for a kid. I had a senior year plant wheat the first year, and then spring of last year I went to Landon to ask of his interest. Then last fall he went to school board and they approved him to go ahead with it and he started getting the field, cleaned up. He's gone way beyond what I thought was gonna happen with it."</p><div><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/tvmqgA6JmfI?si=48oogbXnvjuQMbHU" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></div><p>Landon Drews is a sophomore at Paxton, he was only a
Freshman when he was asked about taking on this FFA project. Drews went before the Paxton School Board last fall to find out if he could get sponsors to help him plant his corn crop. He say's that was a big part of this FFA project. "&nbsp; I think that part was the most important, getting in contact that was pretty easy to do. I know most of the guys around here, you call one guy and say hey would you like to be a part of the Paxton FFA and support us and they just all wanted to be part of it. They had no worries about it. We have six different dealers that helped support us so we had Channel, DeKalb, Golden Harvest, Becks, Hoegemeyer, and Pioneer. Hi-Line Coop sprayed the corn and Harden Agency insured the crop from hail over the summer." Drews says it took them 5 1/2 hours plant that little peice of land because every time you went out, you had to come back and clean out the seed boxes on the planter.</p><p>In all it’s about 10 acres of dryland corn Drews and his
volunteers planted, Mr. Turner has used Landon’s project to teach others in his
class about putting a crop in the ground and tending to it, "I was able to take my students down. All of our FFA members got to go down and they helped clean out the planter and they got to ride in the tractor. We talked to different different dealers and they told them about the different varieties of seeds that they were putting in. So I mean that day right there was worth it to me just to get those other kids who don’t have the experience that Landon does. They don’t have the knowledge that he does in farming, and now they got some of that experience and knowledge firsthand.</p><p>On Wednesday, October 30th, Drews plans to
harvest his crop. Claas, Nebraska Harvest Center, in Ogallala is donating a combine to come pick the corn. Mr. Turner said the day will be a fun filled day for the entire Paxton School system. Elementary kids plan to come watch part of the day, his FFA and agriculture students plan to help also. Landon has also reached out to locals in the community who are donating hamburger which they cook burgers for the kids that day at the harvest site.&nbsp;</p><p>Mr. Turner says after the crop is out they plan to mill some
of the corn for feed that they’ll use to feed 3 cows the FFA tends too over the

Ogalalla, Ne - The Keith County Foundation Fund is beginning its fourth year of it's Youth Inspired Philanthropy Project for kids in Keith County ages 3rd grade through seniors in High School . Before being selected, Keith County youth pitch their philanthropic ideas, offer a plan to implement their project, and calculate how much it will cost. Those selected receive up to $1,000 to bring their project to life.&nbsp;

Keith County Students in Ogallala, Paxton and Brule can begin applying for the project beginning on Sunday, September 15 by filling out a form at <a href="https://www.keithcountyfoundation.org/youth-philantrophy">KeithCountyFoundation.org</a>, click on the Youth Inspired Philanthropy Project. The selection committee will review all applications. Projects will be announced at the&nbsp;Youth Philanthropy Showcase&nbsp;after presentations on November 12, 2024, at 5:00 pm at the Kathleen Lute Public Library.

The event on Saturday will run from 6:30pm - 11:00pm with a beer garden, nacho bar and more. On Sunday, the event runs from 12:00pm - 3:00pm and is geared towards activities for the kids but for everyone to enjoy. Raffle tickets are on sale for $2 and there are awesome prizes to win.&nbsp;

North Platte, Neb. - Monster trucks are heading to the Lincoln County Raceway for the Monster Truck Mania event this Saturday. Saturday will feature two shows, the first one beginning at 1:00 and last until 3:00pm and the second show begins at 7:00pm and will go until 9:00pm. Drivers will compete in different events and will finish the night off in the freestyle.&nbsp;

Tickets are available for both shows but the first show is selling quickly. The second show on Saturday features a family package deal for $50, but tickets are selling quickly.&nbsp;
