Extreme fire behavior driven by weather conditions led to the loss of three responder vehicles Saturday afternoon on the Cottonwood Fire.
According to Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 1, the vehicles were unoccupied at the time. Firefighters assigned to the incident were medically evaluated, and no injuries were reported.
Officials say pockets of unburned fuel contributed to the sudden increase in fire activity. The fire remains active within containment lines, and crews continue working to keep it contained.
There is no immediate threat to the public, but firefighters are urging people to stay away from active fire areas for safety.
