[North Platte, NE]—On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the American Legion proudly celebrates its 106th anniversary, marking over a century of unwavering support for veterans, their families, and communities across the nation. This milestone commemorates the day in 1919 when the first American Legion caucus was held by members of the American Expeditionary Force in Paris, France, laying the foundation for the nation’s largest veterans service organization.

Since its inception, the American Legion has been a pillar of advocacy, providing essential resources, programs, and support to those who have served our country. From securing veterans' benefits to fostering patriotism and youth development, the American Legion continues to profoundly impact countless lives.

"For 106 years, The American Legion has stood as a beacon of support and unity for veterans and their families," said Joe Wiezorek, Commander of Post #163 in North Platte, “This anniversary is not just about celebrating our history but also about reaffirming our commitment to serving those who have served our nation."

American Legion posts across the country will be hosting commemorative events to honor this occasion, bringing together members, families, and the community to reflect on the organization’s enduring legacy. A dinner and celebration, hosted by American Legion P.R. Halligan Post #163, will be held on Sunday, March 16, at 6:00 p.m., at 2020 East 4th Street. The public is welcome to attend.

As The American Legion continues its mission into its second century, its dedication to veterans, national security, youth mentorship, and patriotic service remains stronger than ever.
