OGALLALA, Neb. — Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Independence Day with the return of the Keith County Community Fireworks Show on Saturday, July 4, when the skies over Ogallala will be filled with a professionally produced fireworks display designed for the entire community to enjoy.
The fireworks are scheduled to begin at approximately 10 p.m. mnt, or after dark, at the Western Diamonds Sports Complex. Organizers are encouraging families to arrive early, find a comfortable viewing location and enjoy an evening celebrating the Fourth of July together.
This year's display will be produced by J & M Displays and is expected to feature approximately 20 minutes of fireworks. According to organizers, the show will include more fireworks and larger shells than in previous years, making it one of the largest community displays Keith County has seen.
Another feature returning this year is a synchronized musical soundtrack. Spectators are encouraged to tune their vehicle or portable FM radios to FlatRock 100.7 FM to hear the music that has been choreographed to accompany the fireworks. Organizers note that using an FM radio will provide the best experience, as online streams may have a slight delay that can affect synchronization.
Keith County Chamber of Commerce Member Director Dawn Haney said the event represents months of work by community members and supporters.
"One thing I'm especially excited to share is that this truly has been a community effort," Haney said. "Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, organizations, government partners, and individuals, we reached our fundraising goal and are bringing this celebration back for everyone to enjoy."
Haney said the Chamber is especially grateful for the support received from the Keith County Foundation Fund, Lake Mac Casino Resort & Racetrack, Keith County, the City of Ogallala, as well as the many sponsors and donors who contributed to making the event possible.
The annual fireworks show is designed to be a family-friendly celebration that residents and visitors alike can enjoy together. Haney recommends arriving early to secure a good viewing spot. Popular viewing areas include the Western Diamonds Sports Complex, the Wild West Soap Box Derby grounds and nearby open areas surrounding the ballfields.
Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, snacks and drinks, and bug spray if desired. Haney also recommends bringing a portable FM radio or listening from a vehicle to enjoy the synchronized soundtrack throughout the show.
With larger fireworks, synchronized music and widespread community support behind the celebration, organizers hope this year's Keith County Community Fireworks Show will provide a memorable Independence Day experience for families across the region.
