Community Connections Press Release
[North Platte, NE] – Local mentors, mentees, and their families had an exciting night at Mid-Plains Community College, cheering on the Knights as they took on Lamar Community College from Colorado. In a thrilling matchup, the Knights secured the victory, making the night even more special for attendees.
As honored guests, the group enjoyed the game from the VIP lounge overlooking the court, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Mid-Plains Community College. Attendees were also treated to complimentary popcorn, adding to the fun and lively atmosphere.
A highlight of the evening was the presence of Miss Nebraska, Raechel Warren, who joined in the festivities. She not only cheered on the Knights but also engaged with mentees in friendly rounds of Uno cards and shared some of her favorite children's books, inspiring a love for reading.
“We are incredibly grateful to Mid-Plains Community College for providing this opportunity,” said Angela Hipp, Community Connections Mentoring Coordinator. “Events like these help strengthen the bond between mentors and mentees while fostering a sense of community.”
The Unique Impact of Community-Based Mentoring
One of the key advantages of community-based mentoring is the opportunity to explore different spaces and meet new people. Mentors and mentees can visit museums, sporting events, art classes, and other engaging events that spark meaningful conversations and inspire growth. These experiences help expand a mentee’s horizons, build their network, and connect them with valuable community resources.
By engaging in fun and enriching activities, youth have the chance to experience new adventures, build confidence, and deepen their relationships with mentors. These shared moments of enjoyment foster trust and create opportunities for impactful discussions that shape brighter futures.
