Fire crews are reporting progress on the Morrill Fire, which is now 18% contained.

The fire has burned 572,084 acres, according to the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 1. Crews made key advances Sunday, completing a containment line along the southwest portion of the fire.

Firefighters continue working to strengthen lines and mop up hot spots, while also targeting areas of active fire. Structure protection efforts are focused on the southeast side, where fire remains in cottonwood areas.

Officials say vegetation such as cottonwoods and cattails on the north side is still holding heat, requiring continued attention from crews.

Two unmanned aircraft systems will assist with monitoring fire activity, though strong winds expected today could limit the use of other aircraft.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect, with winds forecast to reach up to 50 miles per hour, increasing the potential for fire growth.

A Temporary Flight Restriction remains in place over the fire zone, and officials remind the public that drones are prohibited in wildfire areas.
