Storm set for home opener at Viaero Center

The Tri-City Storm is set to host the Sioux City Musketeers at the Viaero Center for the 24th Home Opener in organizational history. The Storm will host the Musketeers again tomorrow night at 6:05pm CT to complete the team’s two-game Opening Weekend at the Viaero Center. Tickets for tonight’s home game in Kearney may be purchased online at www.StormHockey.com, or by calling the Viaero Center Box Office during Box Office hours at 308-338-8144. Puck drop for tonight’s Home Opener is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.

Ticket specials for tonight’s game include a $5 Kids’ Friday, and $10 College Student Tickets. A ticket discount for military members and senior citizens is also available for $12. Advance ticket pricing prior to game day is available for all ticket tiers for individual games at the Viaero Center.

Tri-City (2-0-0-0) returns home to host Sioux City in back-to-back games this weekend following consecutive one-goal victories last weekend to open the season at the 2023 DICK’S Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic. The Storm posted back-to-back wins over the Youngstown Phantoms and the Sioux Falls Stampede at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania to lift the organization’s win streak at the Fall Classic to six games. Tri-City has not lost a matchup at the Fall Classic since dropping a three-goal decision to the Youngstown Phantoms on September 27th, 2019. The Storm opened the 2023-2024 regular season with a 2-1 win over the defending Clark Cup Champion Youngstown Phantoms on Wednesday, September 20th. Nolan Roed and Dallas Vieau each scored their first career USHL goals in the victory for Tri-City. Cameron Korpi turned away 23 of 24 shots on net to record the win in goal for the Storm. Korpi’s only goal allowed in the contest was with under a minute to play on an extra-attacker scoring play. He made a save on a penalty shot attempt by Youngstown’s Charlie Cerrato at 12:17 of the 3rd period.

The Storm posted a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over the Sioux Falls Stampede on Thursday, September 21st to complete the event with a perfect 2-0-0-0 record. August Falloon scored the Storm’s only goal during regulation time with less than five minutes to play to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. Falloon netted another goal during the overtime period to lift Tri-City to a come-from-behind victory over Western Conference foe Sioux Falls. Cameron Korpi denied 33 of Sioux Falls 34 shots on net, including 5 during the overtime period, to record another win in goal for the Storm. Korpi was named the USHL’s Goaltender of the Week for his efforts at the Fall Classic. He has now notched a career record of 15-4-3 in games played with the Storm. Tri-City has posted an 18-9-1-1 record in head-to-head matchups against Sioux City in games played over the past five seasons. The Storm dispatched the Musketeers in a series sweep at the Viaero Center in the opening round of the 2023 Clark Cup Playoffs.

Sioux City (0-0-2-0) surrendered back-to-back overtime losses to begin the team’s sixty-two game season at the Fall Classic. The Musketeers dropped a 3-2 decision to the Chicago Steel in a cross-conference battle to open the season on Thursday, September 21st. Sioux City carried a 2-0 lead into the 3rd period, but surrendered three consecutive goals and dropped the game in overtime. Colin Kessler, and Hagen Burrows netted goals in the loss for the Musketeers. Samuel Urban dropped the game in net for Sioux City. The Musketeers outshot the Steel by a wide margin of 42-22, but dropped the opening game of the year. Sioux City dropped another overtime decision to the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday, September 22nd. Sam Court, Brian Nicholas, and Ethan Gardula netted goals for the Musketeers during the matchup. Jakub Krbecek recorded the loss in net for Sioux City in the cross-conference battle. The Musketeers have posted an overall record of 6-8-0-0 in regular season games played in Kearney over the past five seasons.

Season Tickets, and Single-Game Tickets are on sale now for the 24th season in Tri-City Storm history. The organization will play thirty home games at the Viaero Center throughout the 2023-2024 USHL regular season. Following opening weekend, promotional dates will include Military Appreciation Night, Teddy Bear Toss Night, Concrete Cares Night, a New Year’s Eve Game, Scouting with the Storm, Kool-Aid Night, Puck’s N’ Paw’s Night, Youth Hockey Night, and Fan Appreciation Night.
