GRANT, NEB. - It's an early Friday afternoon kick off for today's Sandhills Post Area Game of the Week featuring Sandhills Valley (0-5) traveling to Grant to take on Perkins County (4-1) with kickoff scheduled for 2:30 mountain/3:30 central.

Perkin's County is led by first year Head Coach Brendan Geier and under his staff, the Plainsmen boost a 4-1 record heading into their week 6 matchup. The Plainsmen got things rolling after they were defeated in Week 2 by Dundy County Stratton 34-20. Since then, the Plainsmen have been on a roll getting wins over Bayard (47-8), Kimball (55-0), and getting victory over Sutherland last week 46-16. In Perkins County last three games, they have outscored opponents 148-24.

The Plainsmen are a run heavy style of offense this season. Through 5 games, Perkins County has rushed for 1,464 yards and are averaging 293 rushing yards a contest. Through those 5 games, 5 Plainsmen have rushed for over a hundred yards. Leading the rushing attack is Oscar Boldt with 496 rushing yards and 9 Touchdowns. Ryder Potts has rushed for 353 yards and has found the endzone 4 times. Jackson Wykert has accumulated for 208 rushing yards, quarterback Dawson Tjaden has run for 178 yards and Nolan Foster has helped ran the ball for 144 yards.

Sandhills Valley is led by head coach Luke Connell. Despite being 0-5 on the season, this team is better than what their record shows. The Mavericks have lost 3 games by one possession. Sandhills Valley, who were district runners-up a season ago, lost a good senior class. Despite having juniors in the line-up, this is many of those players first year as a starter and have shown growth from week 1 to week 6.

The Mavericks lean more on the run in the offensive scheme but also can throw the ball when needed. So far through 5 games, Sandhills Valley has rushed for 976 yards and have thrown for 571 yards. leading the rushing attack is Cayson Johnston who has ran for 486 yards while punching in 2 touchdowns. BJ Goforth is second on the team in rushing yards as he has 337 yards and a team high 4 rushing touchdowns. In the air, Layton Connell has been moving the ball well. Connell has passed for 571 yards and has 10 passing touchdowns. Top target this season for Connell has been Kyle Kramer as he has 22 catches for 300 yards and 5 receiving touchdowns.
