It is shared by the family with sorrow that Tina Tyan left us peacefully on August 29, 2024, at Linden Court in North Platte at the Age of 58. &nbsp;

Tina Delores Tyan was born on August 10, 1966, in Sutherland, NE, to Edward and Cleo (Slater) Tyan. &nbsp;

At a young age, Tina lost both of her parents and took on the selfless responsibility of caretaking for her younger siblings. &nbsp;After attending North Platte Public Schools, Tina went on to complete some college and then began working as a self-employed interior painter. &nbsp;She brought two sons into the world: Joshua and Chandler. &nbsp;She was so proud of her boys.&nbsp;

Tina was known to be stubborn but incredibly strong and was always the “mom” to those around her. &nbsp;She loved to read, garden and scrapbook in her spare time. Tina was no stranger to anyone and loved to visit and talk. If you know Tina, you know that she had a story for everything.&nbsp;

Survivors of Tina include her son, Chandler (Danin) Tyan of Edmonds, WA; siblings, Camie (Matthew) Cox of Wauneta, Tim (Tracy) Tyan of Wallace, and Dusty Tyan of Godley, TX; a close niece, Heather (Mitch) Pappas of Godley, TX; along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family. Tina is also survived by many friends that she considered to be family.&nbsp;

Those that preceded her in death are her parents; son, Joshua; and brother, Corky.

Tina D Tyan (1966-2024)

Misty Kay McDaniel was born on February 12, 1971, in O’Neill, Nebraska to Connie and Curtis Hood. Later in life, Misty gained a stepmother, Alisha, when Curtis remarried in 1986. The family then moved to Ogallala, where Misty attended school.

&nbsp;Misty and Kevin Davison welcomed a baby girl (Katie) into their lives on November 19th of 1995.&nbsp; It brought her so much joy and happiness to become a mother.

&nbsp;Misty worked at Hoke’s Café as a waitress for many years and later managed the kitchen at the bowling alley in Ogallala. She enjoyed fishing, and cheering on the Huskers, and she almost always solved the Wheel of Fortune puzzles before anyone else.

Later in life, Misty met Rhett Morlang and was able to find true happiness and friendship, although the two would frequently battle each other over rounds of Yahtzee. Misty had recently been able to take a camping trip and use a friend's fifth wheel, which she referred to as “glamping” because all she had known growing up and as an adult was roughing it in the tent, no matter how bad of a storm there was at Lake McConaughy.

Misty was a dear friend and mother-like figure to many, and she will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Katie Davison; Sister, Tina Graham and her daughters Jenette and Paulette, and brother Curtis Hood, half-sister Kendra Schlem (Randy) and their children Logan, Joshua, Kenian, and Heather, half-sister Brandy Rowe and her son Zachary, stepmother for many years, Alisha Siebenthal, aunts Tammi Parker, Mary Skinner, Cathy Casey and her children Ralphy and Darla, best friends Donna Crain and Lori Roberts, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, four-legged companion Buddy, and a grand puppy, Moose.

Misty McDaniel (1971-2024)

&nbsp;On Saturday morning August 17, 2024, during Betty’s last days of her stay in the Perkins County Hospital, Elizabeth Joyce (Fhuere) Frederick, age 89 a resident of Imperial, NE, took up her citizenship in heaven and is now seated in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3).&nbsp;

&nbsp;Betty was born November 19, 1934 in North Platte, NE to Louis S. and Thelma R. (Wells) Fhuere. Betty was the second child and only daughter in her family of five children. Betty lived her childhood in North Platte and then on November 25, 1951 Betty was united in marriage to John A. Frederick of North Platte. The newlyweds made their first home in North Platte. While living there God gave them three daughters: Rogene Katherine, Frances (Fran) Elizabeth, and Jacqueline Patricia. The family then moved to Papillion, NE where God gave them a son, Stewart Paul Nelson and later a foster daughter Heidi Jo.

&nbsp;Betty was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker, active in raising her children. Betty was a master working with needle and thread. Betty made the majority of the families clothing and taught her daughter to be thread artists also. Betty enjoyed sewing, knitting, crochet, various types of embroidery and quilting.

&nbsp;Bey realized because she was a sinner she was separated from God and her good deeds could not please God enough to outweigh her sin. The earnings of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Betty also learned that Jesus the Perfect Lamb of God shed His blood on the cross in payment for and the forgiveness of her sin. Betty put her trust in this truth of forgiveness. One of Betty’s favorite Bible verses is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."&nbsp;

&nbsp;One of Betty’s favorite activities was being a part of the ministry of The Gideon's International. For 48 years Betty was a member of the Auxiliary. Betty was a prayer warrior and zealous about distributing scriptures and telling people how they too could know the forgiveness she received from God.

&nbsp;In January of 1975, Jack and Betty moved to Grant, NE where Jack and Betty purchased a motel and trailer park, then the Dairy Queen in Ogallala, NE, raised ostriches and eventually retired in Imperial, NE. Betty was a caring, loving, praying, and giving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Her family has been greatly blessed by her influence and love.

&nbsp;Preceding her in death are her parents, Louis and Thelma; father and mother in-law, John and Margaret Frederick; brothers: Alison and wife, Ann; Orville and wife Verlaine; David, and brothers and sisters in-law: Lawrence Frederick and wife, Ernita; Douglas Frederick; James Frederick and wife, Helen; Ruth Luree Swedberg and husband, Melvin; Jack Stone.

Elizabeth Frederick (1934-2024)

Owen Max Foster, age 15, of Big Springs, NE passed on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Children’s Hospital in Aurora, CO as a result of a tragic auto accident on May 18, 2024. Owen was born March 15, 2009, at Julesburg, CO to Kendall and Jennifer (Loomis) Foster.

He attended South Platte Schools and had just finished his Freshman year of high school. While he hated the schoolwork, he loved the social aspect and being around teachers and friends. In school, Owen was involved in football, basketball, track, Knight vision and FFA.

Owen enjoyed spending his Wednesday evenings at the Assembly of God church learning God’s word while participating in the Royal Rangers Youth group. He also attended pow-wows at Lexington where his teams often won the obstacle course race.

He was also highly involved in the Pride of the Plains 4-H Club and loved showing his animals. He has taken many static projects over the seven years he was enrolled in 4-H. He has shown lambs, goats, pigs and beef at fairs. The beef had become his favorites and he had set a goal to win a buckle with a steer out of his own herd.&nbsp; He was also involved with the South Platte Shooters 4-H Trap Team and participated in many trap shoots including the Cornhusker State Trap Shoot at Doniphan. He was also a member of the Deuel County Shooters where he participated in hunting skills, BB gun, air rifle, pistol and archery.

Outside of his busy schedule, he loved to ride motorcycles and four wheelers, go hunting and fishing with friends and family, welding, working on his pickup, riding horses and raising his own cattle. He had a profound love of music and could always be found listening to it. Mostly, Owen loved spending time talking to people, friends, family, and anyone that would take interest in his stories.

Owen is survived by his parents, Kendall and Jen Foster, brother Kris Kopetzky and fiancé Megan Orth, grandparents Greg and Deb Foster and Diana Loomis, great-grandmother Mary Krems, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Raymond Loomis, great grandparents Max Krems, Evelyn and Charles Foster, Samuel and Maude Loomis and Elmer and Helen Mundt.

A Celebration of Life will be held, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. in South Platte High School Auditorium with Pastor Todd Lanman officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Big Springs Cemetery in Big Springs, Nebraska.

Owen, your kind heart, ornery smirk, big smiles, contagious laugh, and those beautiful blue eyes will forever be missed by all.

Owen Max Foster (2009-2024)

Betty JoAnn Bernhardt passed away on August 25, 2024, in Imperial, Nebraska. She was born on November 1, 1939, in Greeley, Colorado to Philip and Pauline (Stroh) Williams, she was the youngest of two children with her brother, Kenneth. JoAnn, as she was known, brought immediate joy to the family.&nbsp;

From her early years spent in the Gill, Colorado area she never shied from helping on the farm or tending to chores with the livestock, always wanting to be with her dad. This led to a strong work ethic which carried out the rest of her life until her passing.&nbsp;

&nbsp;She attended school in Gill from elementary until high school where she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen, graduating in 1957. While in school she became a social butterfly with a personality that attracted many friends whom she carried the rest of her life.&nbsp;

On December 2, 1957, at St. Paul's Congregational Church in Greeley, Colorado she exchanged vows with her husband Donald Bernhardt with the marriage lasting until his passing in 2021. To this union they welcomed sons Kerry and Kurt with daughter Darcy completing the family. Together they raised their children on a small farm in the Gill area. Joann was always very active in her children’s lives during school, 4-H, FFA, and livestock shows.&nbsp;

In pursuit of their farming dreams, the Bernhardt family took a chance and relocated to Champion, Nebraska, in January of 1976. Joann played a key role in establishing their family farm, whether it required driving a tractor, flood irrigating or driving a truck during harvest. Later in the 1980s she helped establish Triple B Commodities, a family trucking company where she took care of the record keeping and dispatching the many trucks where they needed to be. This endeavor continued until her health began to fail in 2018.&nbsp;

Joann found joy in gardening and keeping an immaculate yard after her and Donnie purchased their home in Imperial in 1989. She was particularly a good cook specializing in German dishes. When Joann served a meal, small portions were never an option. In early years, Joann enjoyed going to Dutch Hop dances and found comradery in the sport of bowling. Yet, her greatest joy came when she became a grandparent and was able to cheer on her grandchildren at their many activities. She also cherished the many trips she was able to take to Ft. Myers, Florida to visit her daughter.&nbsp;

For over two decades JoAnn embraced her role at the Imperial Inn as a front desk clerk, where she formed lasting connections with guests and took pleasure in creating a welcoming atmosphere. Her positive and joyful attitude always helped uplift the spirits of her coworkers, making her an invaluable team member at the Inn.&nbsp;

As a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, Joann found fellowship as well as being a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. Her community involvement reflected her unwavering commitment to helping others and bringing a smile to anyone she came into contact with.&nbsp;

JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Donald; and her brother, Kenneth Williams.&nbsp;

 </figure>Betty JoAnn Bernhardt passed away on August 25, 2024, in Imperial, Nebraska. She was born on November 1, 1939, in Greeley, Colorado to Philip and Pauline (Stroh) Williams, she was the youngest of two children with her brother, Kenneth. JoAnn, as she was known, brought immediate joy to the family.&nbsp;From her early years spent in the Gill, Colorado area she never shied from helping on the farm or tending to chores with the livestock, always wanting to be with her dad. This led to a strong work ethic which carried out the rest of her life until her passing.&nbsp;&nbsp;She attended school in Gill from elementary until high school where she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen, graduating in 1957. While in school she became a social butterfly with a personality that attracted many friends whom she carried the rest of her life.&nbsp;On December 2, 1957, at St. Paul's Congregational Church in Greeley, Colorado she exchanged vows with her husband Donald Bernhardt with the marriage lasting until his passing in 2021. To this union they welcomed sons Kerry and Kurt with daughter Darcy completing the family. Together they raised their children on a small farm in the Gill area. Joann was always very active in her children’s lives during school, 4-H, FFA, and livestock shows.&nbsp;In pursuit of their farming dreams, the Bernhardt family took a chance and relocated to Champion, Nebraska, in January of 1976. Joann played a key role in establishing their family farm, whether it required driving a tractor, flood irrigating or driving a truck during harvest. Later in the 1980s she helped establish Triple B Commodities, a family trucking company where she took care of the record keeping and dispatching the many trucks where they needed to be. This endeavor continued until her health began to fail in 2018.&nbsp;Joann found joy in gardening and keeping an immaculate yard after her and Donnie purchased their home in Imperial in 1989. She was particularly a good cook specializing in German dishes. When Joann served a meal, small portions were never an option. In early years, Joann enjoyed going to Dutch Hop dances and found comradery in the sport of bowling. Yet, her greatest joy came when she became a grandparent and was able to cheer on her grandchildren at their many activities. She also cherished the many trips she was able to take to Ft. Myers, Florida to visit her daughter.&nbsp;For over two decades JoAnn embraced her role at the Imperial Inn as a front desk clerk, where she formed lasting connections with guests and took pleasure in creating a welcoming atmosphere. Her positive and joyful attitude always helped uplift the spirits of her coworkers, making her an invaluable team member at the Inn.&nbsp;As a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, Joann found fellowship as well as being a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;William Seymour "Bill" Richardson, age 82 of Valentine, Nebraska, was born on November 19, 1942 in Valentine, Nebraska to William J. and Ennis Lovejoy Richardson.&nbsp; He passed away on August 25, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Bill attended Valentine Elementary and Valentine High Schools.&nbsp; He later attended El Centro, CA and Chadron State College and ran track.&nbsp; Bill married Julie Kotrous on January 2, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada and on July 26, 2018 in Valentine, Nebraska. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Bill was a retired rancher and truck driver.&nbsp; He was a 50+ year Master Mason of the Silver Cord Lodge No. 244 and attended St. John's Episcopal Church.&nbsp; He had a great lover for Harley Davidson Motorcycles and that started with a ride on his Uncle Lorne's Harley in the 1960's.&nbsp; Buying his first brand new Harley in 1978, that same motorcycle still remains in the family today.&nbsp; He enjoyed being on the road, whether it be a day trip or a two week trip, gathering over 4 million miles in a semi-truck.&nbsp; Bill loved to visit, whether he had known you for&nbsp; years or just met, he always loved to engage in conversation.&nbsp; Bill had a very strong work ethic which he has passed down to his children.&nbsp; After a long week of work, Bill would enjoy a Black Velvet and water (the amount of water depended on if any speeding tickets were involved that week). &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He was very proud that at 73 years old, he had all of his points on his driver's license since first getting his license at 16 years old.&nbsp; After his 3rd retirement, he enjoyed yard work and scooping snow for his neighbors, having coffee with his friends and motorcycle trips with his motorcycle gang.&nbsp; Bill was always a willing dance partner, a constant jokester, a phenomenal friend, and a seamless father. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Preceding Bill in death were his parents, William J. Merlyn grace, age 83, of rural Lewellen, Nebraska passed away Thursday evening, August 22, 2024 at the Garden County Health Services Hospital in Oshkosh, Nebraska after a courageous battle with cancer.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT at Ash Hollow Cemetery near Lewellen, Nebraska with Brenda Tophoj, PMA officiating.&nbsp; A time of fellowship and a meal will follow at the Lewellen Tiger Den.&nbsp; Please come as you are, cowboy boots and jeans are just fine, and share stories and memories of Merlyn.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Merlyn George Grace was born on July 22, 1941 to Dale and Vi Grace at their home on the ranch near Lewellen, Nebraska.&nbsp; Merlyn attended school in Lewellen, graduating in 1959.&nbsp; As a little boy, many days were spent spearing catfish in the river with his brothers.&nbsp; While in high school, Merlyn was active in all sports, as well as a member of band, chorus, and a boy's quartet.

After high school, Merlyn moved to the family ranch in the Sandhills, 40 miles north of Lewellen.&nbsp; This is where he would call home for the next 37 years being a rancher.

He met Arlene Mekelburg while attending the stock show in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp; They later married on may 14, 1967.&nbsp; Merlyn and Arlene had two daughters, Geri in December 1969 and Julie in October 1973.

Merlyn was the definition of a true cattleman; God made him to be a rancher.&nbsp; He loved the Sandhills and his family.&nbsp; He had a great compassion for the cattle and believed in working hard for the family brand.&nbsp; Living in the Rackett community, Merlyn always felt grateful for all the good neighbors.&nbsp; Every first Saturday in June, at the Grace branding, was the perfect example of the value of good neighbors and friends who gathered from miles around.

Merlyn also had a passion for flying, following in his dad's footsteps, he got his pilot's license at an early age.&nbsp; Whether he was checking cattle, windmills, fences on the summer range, being the "eye of the sky" locating grass fires for the Rackett Volunteer Fire Department, or making that quick landing by a blowout to look for that perfect arrowhead, Merlyn always loved the view of the Sandhills from above in the Supercub.

Merlyn and Arlene retired and bought a home outside Lewellen in 1997.&nbsp; After moving closer to town, Merlyn stayed actively involved in the family farming operations.&nbsp; In the snowy months, on non-Husker gamedays, of course, Merlyn discovered a new hobby of woodworking in his shop.&nbsp; Being self-taught, he spent many hours building wishing wells while listening to the songs of Marty Robbins, Willie Nelson, and Merle Haggard.&nbsp; Merlyn and Arlene celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in may 2024.

Merlyn is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Lewellen, Nebraska; daughters, Geri (Larry) Alworth of Oshkosh, Nebraska and Julie (Rick) Kreuter of Big Springs, Nebraska; grandchildren, Melissa (Brandon), Jenna, and Nick; great-grandchildren, Jailyn, Ember, Conner, Peyton, and Sage; sister, JoAnn Podkonyak; brother, Butch (Jeannie) Grace of Lewellen, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Echlyn Michael Ogier, who left us too soon at the age of 17 on August 15, 2024.

 A cherished son, brother, and friend, Echlyn was known for his infectious energy, kind heart, and bright future. Born on May 15, 2007, Echlyn was feisty, hard headed and determined. He loved listening to music, dancing, playing sports and hanging out with friends. 

Echlyn is survived by his parents, Amber and Jason Grafford of Minot, ND and Paul and Jami Ogier of Alma, NE; his siblings, Brayten Ogier, Zaxtyn and Kortyn Grafford, and Kaylan and Hendryx Ogier, and numerous other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He is remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the countless moments of joy he shared with those he loved. 

A memorial service to celebrate Echlyn's life will be held on Saturday, August 31 at 10:00 am at Draucker Funeral Home with Pastor Wesley Harmon of the New Life Church in Ogallala officiating. Echlyn Michael Ogier (2007-2024)

John Irwin Lloyd Piepho, 66, passed away on Friday, August 23rd, 2024. John was born in Keystone, Nebraska on February 20th, 1958 to Lloyd Carl Piepho and Eleanor Irene Graham Piepho. John graduated from Ogallala Senior High School in 1976. He went on to earn an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from Eastern Wyoming College in 1979. 

He married his wife Kimberly Ann Robertson on May 15th, 1982 and the two made a life together raising their two children: Meghan Xanthe Piepho who was born May 8th, 1984 and John Clements Piepho who was born May 10th, 1987. John was a dedicated man who lived his life in service to his family and his friends. He went to work for Haythorn Land &amp; Cattle at the age of 15 and he spent the next 46 years being a cowboy - the only thing he had ever wanted to be. 

In 2019, John and Kim moved into town and he began a new career with his son at a plumbing company where he learned a new way of life and got to serve his community in a new way. He was a champion, a husband, a father, and a man of God. John loved God with all his heart, soul and strength. He was the spiritual leader in his home and offered guidance, support and wisdom to others. John was known for his strong sense of purpose in work and in his faith. 

John is survived by his wife Kimberly Ann Piepho, his daughter Meghan and Tyler Griffin, his son JC and Megan Piepho, his two twin granddaughters, Jem and Belle Griffin, and his sister Julie Piepho and David Bee. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Eleanor Piepho and his grandparents Carl and Della Piepho and Lloyd and Mabel Graham. Memorial Services will be 3:00 pm Thursday, August 29th, 2024 at the New Hope Church in Ogallala with Pastor Matt Waitley officiating.

Eugene Marion “Geno” Vapenik, 76, of Cassville, Wisconsin, passed away on May 14, 2023.&nbsp;

Born on November 4, 1946 in Imperial, Nebraska, he was a devoted father, brother and friend, known for his compassionate spirit and dedication to his community.&nbsp;

Gene graduated from Madrid High School in 1964 and furthered his education at McCook College, graduating in 1966.

Shortly thereafter, he entered the United States Navy, where he served valiantly during the Vietnam War. After basic training, he attended Basic Hospital Corps School and Field Medical Service School. Gene was attached to a Marine unit, earning the title of “Devil Doc.” His service included commendable achievements and he was honorably discharged in November of 1970, decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Cross Gallantry, Vietnam Service Medal with Marine Corps device and one bronze star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V.”

Following his military service, Gene relocated to Wisconsin where he continued his career in the medical field. He obtained his PA license and dedicated many years to caring for others as a Physicians Assistant and later as a nurse, until his retirement.

Gene had a passion for the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He was skilled in various crafts including gun tinkering, carving, engraving, and gardening. An avid collector and sharpener of knives, Gene also enjoyed sitting back, smoking his pipe and watching the birds, especially hummingbirds that visited his Wisconsin home.&nbsp;

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers were his favorite dog breed and he had several. Horus was his last and best “Chessie,” and Gene later shared him with Tim and his family. He also kept a keen eye on governmental affairs, which he followed with great interest.&nbsp;

Gene is survived by his son Christopher of Los Angeles, California; his former wife and friend Eileen Vapenik of Los Angeles, California; his sister Maxine Stewart of Walla Walla, Washington; his brother Tim (Deb) of Wallace, Nebraska; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Dawn Marie-Elizabeth.&nbsp;

Military Services will be held on August 30 at 11 a.m. CT at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska. A luncheon will follow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at 3301 Echo Drive, North Platte.&nbsp;

Gene’s life and service will be honored in a manner benefitting his significant contributions to his country and community.&nbsp;

Dan and Shirley moved to Hamlet, NE where Dan taught school in Wauneta while Shirley's professional journey was diverse and noteworthy. She held various roles throughout her life, including positions at Hamlet Elevator and Wauneta Care Home. Additionally, she served as a van driver at Imperial Manor and successfully ran her own upholstery business for four to five years, showcasing her adaptability and strong work ethic.

Shirley's love for life extended beyond her professional endeavors. She had a remarkable talent for gardening and yardwork, nurturing a passion for grooming flowers and reviving nearly dead plants purchased from Walmart. Her friends and family often remarked on her extraordinary "green thumb," a testament to her nurturing spirit and dedication to breathing new life into the world around her. She was also a fantastic seamstress going as far as making her dress and the kids' and Dan's outfits for their wedding.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Earl Dees.&nbsp;

Shirley is survived by her husband Dan Andrews, sons Richard Andrews, Derek (Eliza) Andrews, and daughter Deanna Scofield; thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:00pm (MT) at the Hamlet Union Church in Hamlet, NE with Pastor Terry Lytle officiating. Inurnment to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, NE.&nbsp;

Shirley Andrews (1948-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

Eugene Henry Baumfalk (1935-2024)

Nola Elaine Troxel-Straub was born January 7, 1943, at home at the Troxel Farm three miles south of Wauneta, NE in Chase County. She departed this life on August 19, 2024, at the age 81 years 7 months and 12 days. Her parents, Charles Orley and Luella May Bush Troxel had three children, Norma Ellen, Neoma Evelyn and Charles Robert, all ready to welcome her to their family.

She started Dist. #31 “Sunny Side School” 3 1/2 miles south of Wauneta, NE. In the fourth grade, because of the consolidating of schools, she attended the grade school in Wauneta and rode the bus to school. Nola Troxel graduated in May 1960 from high school there. Harry Straub had moved to Wauneta and attended high school in 1956 and graduated in May of 1960 also.

In August of 1960 they were married in a ceremony at the Church of Christ on August 14, 1960. They made their home in Wauneta.

Harry left for the U.S. Air Force in 1961. After basic training, Nola Straub joined him in Wichita Falls, TX where their first son, Harry David Jr. was born in 1963.&nbsp;

After they moved back to Nebraska, their second son, Robert Wayne was born in McCook, NE in 1967. The family moved with Harry’s job to Cortez, CO, Kaycee, WY where their oldest son David married Lori Christensen. Robert married Amelia Greaves in McCook, NE.&nbsp;

Nola enjoyed learning to paint, gardening and babysitting the grandchildren that came along in the next few years before they moved to Rock Springs, WY. In Rock Springs, she started college and received her bachelor’s degree in Art. Harry retired in 1999, and they moved to Wauneta, NE to be closer to their brothers and sisters. She continued to enjoy painting with several classes at McCook College and started quilting with a guild. She also enjoyed wood carving. In the spring of 2004, they moved back to the farm where she was born. They both were born in the country and enjoyed the sun rises, sunsets and watching the weather change. She enjoyed her Bible Studies and Church. There is peace in the country and a feeling for nature like no place else. A place to garden and enjoy flowers, fruits and vegetables.

Nola’s grandparents Charles D. Troxel and Phoebe C. Dinnel – Troxel and Catherine E. Winsor – Bush preceded her in death before she was born. Grandfather, Manuel Benton Bush and brother, Charles Robert Troxel died when she was a child. Her parents, Orley and Luella, sisters, Neoma E. Miller and Norma E. Bodeman, two brothers in law Donald R. Miller and Gerold A. Bodeman preceded her in death.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Harry, son, H. David and wife Lori, son, Robert and wife Amy; seven grandchildren: Brianna, Kelsey, Shawn, Kaleb, Bill, Seth and Kaden Straub; and 10 great-grandchildren: Archer, Darcy, Carver, Coren, Emry, Barrett, Madelyn, Nikita, Colt and Oakleigh.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 11:00 A.M. (Central Time) at Church of Christ in Stratton, NE with Pastor Randy Hayes officiating. Viewing one hour prior to service. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, NE at 1:00 P.M. (Mountain Time).&nbsp;

Nola Elaine Straub (1943-2024)

Carroll Eugene Greene, passed away on August 12, 2024 in Imperial, Nebraska. He was born on March 17, 1930, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Joseph Greene Sr. and Vera (Bricker) Greene.

Carroll led a fulfilling life as a Farmer and Rancher on the South Divide Line, embodying the values of hard work and dedication. Growing up his family regularly attended the Prairie Rose Country Methodist Church. He was educated at Ashgrove Elementary Country School and later, the halls of Wauneta High School, graduating with the class of 1948. Carroll played in every sport in High School with baseball being his favorite.&nbsp;

During the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, upon being drafted, Carroll served in the Army with distinction. For two years, he honed his skills as a field wireman and communication staff sergeant, demonstrating courage and commitment to his country.

Aside from his military service and agricultural pursuits, Carroll enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in his earlier years. His love for sports carried on as an adult, being a big fan of the Nebraska Huskers, rarely missing a game. Carroll met the love of his life Ruth Lorraine Goble at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Denver, CO. The couple married in 1962 and eventually made their home in Imperial, NE. The couple danced together for over 40 years and were especially fond of traveling to the Elks Club in McCook to dance, where Carroll was a longtime member.&nbsp;

One of Carroll's many accomplishments was his membership at Frenchman Valley Coop, a testament to his strong work ethic and community spirit.

Carroll is survived by his loving daughter, Lori Ann Greene, who will cherish his memory forever. He is also survived by his grandsons, Sean Loeffler and Joshua Loeffler; great granddaughters Nia Marie Loeffler and Alani Lucia Loeffler, soon to arrive in November, great grandson Oliver; nieces, nephews and cousins. Their lives have been touched by his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love.

In his passing, Carroll is reunited with his wife, Ruth; his parents; his brothers Joseph Greene Jr. (Gloria), Glenard (Colleen) Greene; his sister, Virginia (George) King, and his niece Sylvia Large.&nbsp;

Carroll Eugene Greene's legacy as a devoted family man, a skilled farmer, and a proud serviceman will endure through the generations.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 6, 2024 at Imperial Methodist Church with Reverend Brian Loy Officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

 </figure>Carroll Eugene Greene, passed away on August 12, 2024 in Imperial, Nebraska. He was born on March 17, 1930, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Joseph Greene Sr. and Vera (Bricker) Greene.Carroll led a fulfilling life as a Farmer and Rancher on the South Divide Line, embodying the values of hard work and dedication. Growing up his family regularly attended the Prairie Rose Country Methodist Church. He was educated at Ashgrove Elementary Country School and later, the halls of Wauneta High School, graduating with the class of 1948. Carroll played in every sport in High School with baseball being his favorite.&nbsp;During the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, upon being drafted, Carroll served in the Army with distinction. For two years, he honed his skills as a field wireman and communication staff sergeant, demonstrating courage and commitment to his country.Aside from his military service and agricultural pursuits, Carroll enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in his earlier years. His love for sports carried on as an adult, being a big fan of the Nebraska Huskers, rarely missing a game. Carroll met the love of his life Ruth Lorraine Goble at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Denver, CO. The couple married in 1962 and eventually made their home in Imperial, NE. The couple danced together for over 40 years and were especially fond of traveling to the Elks Club in McCook to dance, where Carroll was a longtime member.&nbsp;One of Carroll's many accomplishments was his membership at Frenchman Valley Coop, a testament to his strong work ethic and community spirit.Carroll is survived by his loving daughter, Lori Ann Greene, who will cherish his memory forever. He is also survived by his grandsons, Sean Loeffler and Joshua Loeffler; great granddaughters Nia Marie Loeffler and Alani Lucia Loeffler, soon to arrive in November, great grandson Oliver; nieces, nephews and cousins. Carroll Eugene Greene (1930-2024)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Juana Davila Rivas, on August 18, 2024, at the age of 92.

Juana was born on June 19, 1932, in Nacimiento, Coahuila, Mexico, to her parents Tomasa and Francisco. She grew up with her three brothers, Clemente, Ignacio, and Ernesto, and her five sisters, Tomasa, Marina, Francisca, Rosaura, and Manuela. The family eventually settled in Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico. As a child, Juana enjoyed helping her mother in the kitchen and fondly recalled making mud pies with her siblings.

As a young woman, she worked as a maid, where she met her future husband, Luis, who was employed as a gardener by the same family. They fell in love and married in October 1951 and started their family, having 12 children—6 boys and 6 girls. In November 1966, they moved to Texas and then ultimately settled in Ogallala, Nebraska. Ogallala became their forever home, and it was the perfect town to raise their beautiful family.

Eventually, after separating from her husband in 1977, Juana was left to raise her family all on her own. Despite the challenges of single motherhood, her strength and determination never wavered. She continued to work hard, securing a job at the Keith County Courthouse, where she worked for 20 years. Through her perseverance, she purchased a home at 500 E J Street, a place that became a cherished destination for all of her family. It will forever be part of the family, filled with the memories and love she created with her loved ones.

Known for her kindness and open heart, Juana helped raise many of her grandchildren, and her home was always open to everyone, family or not. She treated her grandchildren as if they were her own, and she cherished the summers they spent with her. She kept everyone happily fed with her freshly homemade flour tortillas and classic homemade meals—atole, eggs and beans, goulash, and Arroz con pollo. These staple dishes of hers will be greatly missed, but her cherished recipes will carry on through her family.

Juana is survived by her 15 children: Adela (Jose), Luis (Laura), San Juana, Maria Dolores-Lola (Edmundo), Julieta-Julie, Maria Elena-Nena, Rosendo-Randy, Guillermo-Memo, Gabriel (Sandy), Eugenio, Romeo (Kim), Cesar (Sarah), Genaro (Amanda), Toby (Cheri) and Diana-Nani. She leaves behind 41 grandchildren, including Lorena, Marisa (Jorge), Martin (Neva), Jeremy (Renee), Eric, Sarah, Nasencio (Alexa), Jesus, Sergio, Bianca, Lessette (Mauricio), Ezequiel, Edmundo Jr. (Ana), Ariana (Tim), Sasha(Hector), Luis (Endi), Emilio, Michael, Jasmin (Eddie), Juan, Abel, Caesare, Shandelle (Jeremy), Nicholas (Vanessa), Karissa (Andrew), Vanessa (Carlos), Nathan, (Shelia Jimenez) Mother of Emilio, Acacia, Cisco. (Donna Jayne)-Mother of Nathaniel, Chayenne. Isaiah, Gabrielle, Carlee (Micha), Mateo, Savannah (Nick), Isabella, Marine (Liz), Yracema, and Ivan (Reyna). She was also blessed with 70 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Juana was preceded in death by her husband, Luis; her parents, Tomasa and Francisco; her eight siblings; her son-in-law, Jose Cabada; and her daughter-in-law, Kim Rivas. A devout Catholic, Juana was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala, Nebraska. She was the backbone of her family, always putting them first and finding joy in seeing them together.

Though her family mourns the loss of Juana, they find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering. In her final days, she shared how proud she was of each and every one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, totaling 129 descendants. Her family is eternally grateful for the strong legacy she leaves behind.

Visitation will be in The Draucker Funeral Home Chapel, Ogallala, Nebraska on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Rosary and wake service will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 6:00 P.M. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala with Fr. Suresh Bandha as Celebrant.

Juana will be laid to rest at the Ogallala Cemetery in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Her family closes this tribute with a message of hope and inspiration, one that Juana would undoubtedly want them to carry forward. Even in the toughest times, she always found a way to shine light and remain positive. Her resilience has taught us all that, no matter what challenges we face; our family bond will be the strength that gets us through. Juana Rivas (1932-2024)

Mark Edward Armstrong, age 71 of Big Springs, Nebraska passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024, with his wife Michelle (Soper) Armstrong by his side.

Mark Armstrong was born on July 20, 1953, in Grant, NE to Allen and Arlene (Donahue) Armstrong of Big Springs, Nebraska. Mark graduated high school in 1971 in Grant, Nebraska. Mark then married his sweetheart Michelle (Soper) Armstrong on September 8, 1979, and have been married for 45 years. Together Mark and Michelle enjoyed raising their family together.

Mark enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking trips to Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Texas. He loved fishing in Estes Park, Colorado, and Wyoming.

Mark lived in Brule, Nebraska, Whitman, Nebraska, and Big Springs. In his adventures in his lifetime, Mark enjoyed his ranch life, raising cattle and having his roping horses. Mark was involved in team roping in which he won several jackpots.

He held offices involved in the American Quarter Horse Association. Mark also loved doing the wild horse races and riding cows at the local fairs. Mark also served on the Junior Board at the elevator and 4-H in Deuel County.

Mark enjoyed going on trail rides on horseback with his children. He loved dancing at rodeos it was one of the highlights of life that brought him so much joy, he even once danced at the Elks Lodge in Westminster, Colorado. If there was a rodeo dance, you would more than likely find Mark kicking up his boots.

Over the years Mark worked for Garth Ogier, of Whitman, Nebraska, Duanne Hoover of Brule, Nebraska, Max Soper of Big Springs, Nebraska; as a self-employed farmer for a time, HS&amp;S of Brule, Nebraska and; Darrell and Brian Armstrong of Brule.

Mark fought prostate cancer and bone cancer for five years traveling to North Platte, Nebraska, Fort Collins, Colorado, Seattle, Washington and Blaine, Washington for treatments. When Mark wasn’t traveling for treatments, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Mark is survived by his wife Michelle (Soper) Armstong; his children, Kandace (Alex) Footman of Blaine, Washington, Dixie (Tim) Chilzer of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and Chase (Emma) Armstrong of Sidney, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Zander, Savii, Mark, and Riggs; three siblings, Beverly (Jerry) Baker of Northglenn, Colorado, Connie (Jack) Barker of Knoxville, Tennessee and Roger (Elaine) Armstrong of Berthoud, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Arlene Armstrong; his grandparents and infant sister Gloria Armstrong.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. in The Assembly of God Church with Chaplain Robin Storer and Pastor Jared Mitchell officiating in Big Springs, Nebraska.

Inurnment will be in the Big Springs Cemetery, Big Springs, Nebraska.

A memorial has been established for The Big Springs Fire Department.

Mark Edward Armstrong (1953-2024)

Dan "Digger" Nelson, the son of Owen and June Nelson, was born December 13, 1941, in North Platte. &nbsp;He peacefully passed away at his daughter's home in Sutherland on August 18, 2024, at age 82.

Dan was born at home, the seventh of 10 kids, and grew up in North Platte. &nbsp;After graduating from N.P.H.S. he went to work for Central Nebraska Packing. &nbsp;In 1962 he started working as a mechanic for Ace Kinnaman then returned to Central Pack a year later and was with them until 1968 when he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad. &nbsp;Dan was a Brakeman/Conductor on the Third District. &nbsp;He also worked part-time for Melvin Bayne at Hershey and dug graves at the Hershey and Sutherland cemeteries, thus earning him the nickname "Digger".

On March 17, 1962, Dan married Sandra Harshfield. &nbsp;They made their home in Sutherland and raised four children, Natalie, Virginia, Gregory and Matthew.

Dan was a member of UTU Local #200, past member of the Sutherland Jaycees, and active in the Sutherland community. &nbsp;Baseball was always of great interest to Dan; he loved playing and coaching . &nbsp;He also volunteered a lot of time and effort into the rebuilding of Mainard Coker Baseball Field in Sutherland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and June; siblings, Willo, Glenn and Julian Nelson, Patricia Chittenden and Anieda Mobley; and daughter, Natalie Crooks.

Dan is survived by his wife, Sandy; children, Virginia "Ginny" Medina (Joe) and Gregory Nelson (Nancy) of Sutherland and Matthew Nelson (Lena) of North Platte; grandchildren, Adam Huggans (Jessie), Sean Huggans (Kalpana), Mikaela Metzger (Michael), Cassandra Medina (Bradley Whitworth), Marley Nelson, Kristen Ruiz (Kyle), Jocey Taylor (Tyler), Lauren Nelson, Maximilian Nelson, Chloe Nelson and step granddaughter, Emma Wareham; brothers, James Nelson (Kathy) of Franklin, Richard Nelson of Harmon, IL, Harold Nelson of Lincoln and Albert Nelson of Franklin; 12 great-grandkids, 2 step great-grandkids; and many other family members.

Family visitation will be Thursday, August 22 from 5-7 p.m. at the St. Patrick's Parish Center in Sidney, Nebraska. Services will be Friday, August 23 with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sidney with Father C.P. Varghese officiating.&nbsp;

Cremation has taken place, and interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery following the service.

(McHugh) and Harold C. Perkins. The Perkins family moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas in 1943. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1956 and attended college at Fort Hays State in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;While attending college, Harold met Norma Browning. They married in 1959 in Phillipsburg, Kansas and celebrated 64 years together. From this union, three children were born-Terri, Tammy and Tom.Harold started working for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Co. (KN Energy) in 1962 as a laborer. He soon worked his way up to District Manager. During his years with the gas company, he and his family moved to several towns in Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming and Kansas. Harold and Norma moved to Sidney in 1989, where he worked as the District Manager for KN and was promoted to Division Manager until his retirement in 1998.&nbsp;His greatest joys were spending time with his family and helping others. He also had amazing leadership qualities that he shared through volunteering in his church and community. Harold served as an usher at St. Patrick’s Church for 30 years and served on the St. Pat’s Catholic Foundation and St. Pat’s Finance Committee. He was active in the Cheyenne County Chamber serving as President in 1999 and later an Ambassador. Other volunteer positions in Sidney included The Planning Commission, Airport Authority, Cheyenne County Community Center, SALT (Sidney Area Leadership Training), as well as several other City Boards, WNCC Endowment Association, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, Sidney Elks Lodge, Panhandle Senior Golf, and Sidney Flyers.&nbsp;His community and business leadership were also instrumental in the previous communities his career took his family, including: Scott City, KS; Casper, WY; McCook, NE; Chadron, NE and Julesburg, CO.Harold also had a few hobbies. He started playing golf in 1952, playing for his high school and college teams. He continued to be an excellent golfer for over 70 years and enjoyed teaching his family to love the game. He also liked to fly, starting with U-control models to RC model airplanes and even holding a pilot's license for several years.Survivors include his wife, Norma, his children, Terri Strand and husband Ron of Rapid City, SD, Tammy Miller and husband Steve of Sidney, and Tom Perkins and special friend, Susie Hart of Scottsdale, AZ. Grandchildren, Jennifer Vasquez and husband Sev, Michelle Haynes, Kelli Haynes, Blake Miller, and Arianna Perkins. Great granddaughters, Izzy, Addy and Emmy Vasquez. Brothers, Gerald Perkins and wife Becky, Verlyn Perkins and wife Kaye. Several nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold C. and Evelyne Perkins.
