&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott L Porter, 52, reunited with his dad, Gary, unexpectedly on September 18, 2024. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, grandpa, and coach/teammate/friend, who will be deeply missed by all.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott was born on March 25, 1972 in Hastings, NE. He graduated from Clay Center High School in 1990 and went on to play football and pursue his Bachelor’s of Science in Education at Wesleyan University. Scott met Tandi (Kramer) in Lincoln, NE in 1996 and they were united in marriage on May 23, 1998. He took his first teaching/coaching position at Silver Creek, NE in 1997, which later consolidated to Twin River. While in Silver Creek, Scott and Tandi started a family with two beautiful girls: Bailee and Shaye. In 2004, Scott and Tandi moved to Blue Hill to continue his career, where they were blessed with two more daughters: Karstyn and Bentlee. In 2015, Scott’s career led him to Cambridge, NE. Scott continued his career at Hitchcock County in 2018, where this would unknowingly be his final field. This is also where he was proud of his new role of becoming a grandpa.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott’s lifelong passion was sports, where he was known for his dedication to offer his guidance and support to the youth. He was a devoted dad. In his free time, he enjoyed following his girls in their activities, coaching young men and women on the field or on the court, spending time with his dear friends and family whether it be playing cornhole, going to the lake, watching football, chasing storms or just sharing stories.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Coach Porter’s greatest accomplishments started in high school where his team was the state champion in 1986. As a high school and college player he received numerous accolades. As a football coach he was a four time state finalist with two state championships with over 90% of his seasons ending in the state playoffs.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Scott is survived by his loving wife, Tandi; children: Bailee, Shaye (Keaton) Soucek, Karstyn, and Bentlee; and his granddaughter, Porter Soucek; parents, Cindy and Duane Pool of Raymond Ne; sister, Lisa (Eric) Bales of Lincoln; in-laws, Chet (Danele) Kramer of Lemoyne, Karma Kramer of Arthur, NE, Margaret Kostman of Arthur, NE, Tara (Brian) Bender of Kearney, NE, Reed (Micki) Kramer of Oshkosh, NE, and Jalen (Jesse) Snyder of Salida, CO, and numerous “favorite” nieces and nephews, aunts/uncles/cousins.

Mary Jane Cohn, 97, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Linden Court.

Mary was born on March 20, 1927 in North Platte, NE the daughter of Clarence and Fern (Greeley) Stearns. &nbsp;

Mary grew up and attended school in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School. &nbsp;She married Wilbur “Shorty” M. Cohn on October 13, 1946 in Oberlin, KS and together they had 5 children. &nbsp;Mary was a member of the First Christian Church, Moose Club, Eagles Club, Old Timers, RSVP, R&amp;R, and the Shriner’s Auxiliary all in North Platte. &nbsp;She and her husband Shorty did a lot of traveling and camping over the years. &nbsp;She volunteered in recent years with the Thrift Center and Great Plains Health Hospital.

She is survived by her children, Dennis Cohn of Topeka, KS, Larry (Shirley) Cohn of North Platte, Kathy (Steve) Mentzer of North Platte, and Dannie Cohn of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Wendi, Brandon, Alicia, Melissa, Tracy, Cindy, Travis “T.J.”, Jeremy, Amber, Daniel, Nicole, Ashley, and Savannah; 26 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Claire Shields and Shirley Simpson both of Omaha; sister in laws, Jean Stearns of North Platte, and Laurel Cohn of Grand Island; daughter in law, Brenda Cohn of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews.

Stanley Eugene Bonde, 84, of Kearney, formerly of Callaway, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society - St. Johns in Kearney, Nebraska.

He was born on January 22, 1940, in Callaway, Nebraska to Oscar and Dorothy (Sterner) Bonde. He attended school in Callaway and graduated from Callaway High School with the class of 1958. After school, he entered into the Army Reserves where he spent six months on active duty. On August 3, 1962, Stanley was united in marriage to Judy Griffith and two boys were blessed to this union: Frankie and Jamie. Their marriage would later end in divorce. He spent the majority of his life living in Callaway until 2023, when he moved to Kearney.

Stanley enjoyed the simple things in life. He spent many years doing what he loved the most, farming and ranching. When it came time for him to slow down, he still managed the farm with his knowledge of market trends, cattle prices, and connections with those that rented his land. He still drove, stopped at Co-op, Peg Stryker would get him a Mountain Dew, and he would be off to check on land and cattle, and visit with farmers. In his free time, he enjoyed trips to Lake McConaughy, demo derbies, tractor pulls, and going to cattle and bull sales with his son, Frank.

Those left to honor his memory are his sons, Frank (Susie) Bonde of Kearney, and Jamie (Lori) Bonde of Callaway; grandchildren, Dylan (Kailey) Bonde, Tiana Bonde, and Ty Bonde, all of Callaway; great-grandchildren, Carson Bonde, Brooklyn Bonde, Brock Bonde, and Brianna Bonde, all of Callaway; sister, Mercedee (Rod) Clifton of Providence, Rhode Island, as well as extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar Bonde, Jr.

Stanley Eugene Bonde (1940-2024)

Leona Marie Loveless, 80, of Gothenburg, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 15, 1944, in Venango, Nebraska, to Edwin and Elnora (Suhr) Steinke. She attended school in Venango and graduated from Venango High School with the class of 1962. She transitioned to community college where she received her Associate degree in Business. On May 25, 1984, she was united in marriage to Carl William Loveless at the Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada, Colorado. They made their home in Arvada before moving to Lexington, Nebraska in 1995, where she spent many years working in the loans and receivings department at the Homestead Bank before retiring. In 2014, the couple made their home in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Leona loved spending her days outdoors, working on her garden, watching her stargazer lilies bloom, and taking an evening to go fishing. If she wasn't outside, she was meticulously working away on a quilt or playing cards with her friends and family. She enjoyed spending quality time with her children but always held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, making sure they felt her love wherever they were.

Leona was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington for many years until her move to Gothenburg, where she began attending their Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a woman with an unwavering faith which helped her endure and persevere during some of the toughest moments in life. She rarely missed a Sunday service. Over the years, she assisted with teaching Sunday school, managed finances at her local church, as well as being a member of their Bell Choir.

Those left to cherish her memory is her children, Peter (Roxanna) Graham of Omaha, Veronica (Gene) Shepherd of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Patty (Ian) Stewart of Maxwell, Nebraska; grandchildren, Sarah Marie Shepherd, Josephine Nicole Stewart, Trace William Stewart, and Kort James Stewart; sisters, Eileen (Larry) Lacy of Juanita, Nebraska, and Linda (Gary) Newth of Venango, Nebraska, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Loveless.

Leona Marie Loveless (1944-2024)

Robert Keith Brennan, known to many as "Bob," was born on November 5, 1951, in Brush, Colorado to John and Anna Mae (Randall) Brennan. Bob passed away on September 17, 2024, in Kearney, Nebraska. Bob's journey was one of relentless dedication and a passion for fishing and hunting that many will remember fondly.

From his formative years in Stratton, where he graduated from Stratton High School in 1970, Bob developed a character molded by hard work and traditional values. In his earlier days, he embraced the rugged life of truck driving and construction. Bob later lent his work ethic to Midlands Construction, though the call of the open road eventually led him back to owning his truck.

Life for Bob was not only about work; it thrived in the richness of familial bonds and friendships. His beloved wife, Linda Rains, whom he met in high school and the two were later married at St. Joseph Catholic Church on March 11, 1972. Linda stood by him as a partner in every sense of the word. Together they nurtured a family that filled their lives with abundant love and laughter. Bob cherished every moment spent with his children, creating lasting memories that will linger in the hearts of the entire family.

Bob's passions were woven deeply into the fabric of his life. He found joy in the wilderness, hunting and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to share his knowledge and love for nature. His heart soared with pride as he watched his grandchildren grow and shared with him the love of hunting and fishing. As a devoted leader in 4-H, he focused on shooting sports, guiding young minds into the beauty of the great outdoors and securing a sense of safety when it came to handling firearms. His commitment to the community didn’t stop there; he was actively involved in the Stratton Boy Scouts and served dutifully as Chief of the Stratton Volunteer Fire Department for several years, embodying the spirit of service that so many admired.

He had a special bond with his horse, Jack, and his favorite dog, A.J., companions that accompanied him through life's ups and downs. Bob's personality shone brightly with a sense of humor that endeared him to many. His laughter will echo in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him, a reminder of the warmth he brought into their lives.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda; his daughters, Jody (Adam) Parsons and Laci (Tommy) Glatfelter; his son, Clint (Dana); grandchildren, Caleb, Corey, Samantha, Emma, Parker, Ella, Hudson, and Huntley; brothers, Buck, Paul and Frank; and his sisters, Carol Hanes and Mary Brennan. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Bill, Joe, Jake and Kenny.

His heart soared with pride as he watched his grandchildren grow and shared with him the love of hunting and fishing. As a devoted leader in 4-H, he focused on shooting sports, guiding young minds into the beauty of the great outdoors and securing a sense of safety when it came to handling firearms. His commitment to the community didn’t stop there; he was actively involved in the Stratton Boy Scouts and served dutifully as Chief of the Stratton Volunteer Fire Department for several years, embodying the spirit of service that so many admired.He had a special bond with his horse, Jack, and his favorite dog, A.J., companions that accompanied him through life's ups and downs. Bob's personality shone brightly with a sense of humor that endeared him to many. His laughter will echo in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him, a reminder of the warmth he brought into their lives.Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda; his daughters, Jody (Adam) Parsons and Laci (Tommy) Glatfelter; his son, Clint (Dana); grandchildren, Caleb, Corey, Samantha, Emma, Parker, Ella, Hudson, and Huntley; brothers, Buck, Paul and Frank; and his sisters, Carol Hanes and Mary Brennan. Robert Keith Brennan (1951-2024)

&nbsp; Ruth ‘LaVonne’ Hudson, age 90, died peacefully on September 17, 2024, in Walnut Creek, CA. She was born on July 14, 1934, in Spearman, TX. LaVonne is survived by her daughter, Marta Lucille Hudson, brothers Butch Baker [Irene], Phillip Baker [Diana], and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Russell Baker, mother, Ruth Lucille Baker [Tevebaugh], husband, Donald Byron Hudson, son, Nicholas Byron Hudson, an infant son, and brother, Don Russell Baker [Barbara].

LaVonne graduated from high school in Cheyenne Wells, CO in 1953. After graduation, she attended secretarial school in Denver, CO. On December 29, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald B. Hudson, at the United Methodist Church in Cheyenne Wells. As a devoted wife and partner, LaVonne supported Don during veterinary school at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO by working as a receptionist for an ophthalmologist and cashier at Safeway. After graduation in 1960 Don and LaVonne purchased a veterinary practice [Twin Forks Clinic] in Benkelman, NE, and started their family. LaVonne fielded after hours veterinary calls to Don on the Motorola Radio and shuffled Marta and Nick to 4H Horse Shows, while actively serving the community. In 1977 Don and LaVonne sold the veterinary practice and moved to North Platte, NE, where Don accepted a position as UNL Extension Research Veterinarian.

LaVonne was a classy lady, devoted homemaker, mother, and community member. She was an active member of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary, Nebraska Cattlewomen, United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge, Extension Club, Winter Dance Club, North Platte Senior Center, and PEO. When Don pursued his passion for steer roping, LaVonne traveled with him across the country to the PRCA Senior Steer roping events. Reflecting on his cheerleader wife, Don once said that “LaVonne could have fun in a dirt storm”. &nbsp;As a side note, Don had to take ballroom dancing lessons in exchange for steer roping. When Don retired, LaVonne took great pride in the refurbishment of the century old house at Clearview Ranch in Benkelman. On the ranch, there was always a place for cowboys to congregate in LaVonne’s kitchen for a homecooked meal, laughter, conversation, and a pitch card game [which she won]. LaVonne enjoyed gardening, cooking, dancing, and entertaining. Her love and compassion for her kittens, Corgi dogs, and Marta’s cow herd were a source of joy in recent years. Throughout her life, she was an avid rodeo fan. She was loved by all who met her and encouraged others always to have a positive attitude.

Ruth "LaVonne" Hudson (1934-2024)

Roger Nice, 83, of Fayetteville, NC, died August 28, 2024 at his home.

Roger was born April 21, 1941 in Alliance, NE, to Aaron and Eleanor (Stroy) Nice.

Aaron, Eleanor, his brother DeLane and Roger moved shortly after to Broken Bow, Nebraska, where Roger attended Broken Bow schools and graduated in 1959.

After high school he worked doing electronics repair, and also obtained a private pilot's license. In 1964 he married Charlene K. Golden and together they had a daughter, Sheila Marie, in 1965.

He enlisted in the army in 1968 and was sent to Vietnam in 1970-1972. When he returned to Nebraska, Charlene and Roger parted ways and he moved to Fayetteville, NC. In 1973 he was stationed at Ft. Bragg. During his military service he was deployed to Germany for a short time and then returned to Ft. Bragg, where he volunteered in 1978 to go to Ft. Bliss for paratrooper training before returning to Ft. Bragg to finish his military career, where he retired with an honorable discharge. During his army career he received the Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Pro. Development Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Parachute Badge, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

After his army career he started driving truck for a few different companies before starting his own business, Nice Transport. He drove for himself until his health stopped him from doing so at age 78. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with electronics, home repair, flying, motorcycles, boating, gardening. Roger resided at his home until he passed away on August 28, 2024.

Survivors include daughter, Sheila Marie (Kevin) Brown of Curtis, NE; four grandchildren, Joel (Melynda) Linden, and their children Kenna, Caleb, Kameryn, Cicely (Ben Gitzen), Higginbotham, and their children, Garrett, Maddison, Christopher, Logan Brown, and his children Renesmae, Jaxon, Evangeline Brown, Rylie Jo Henderson.

Roger was preceded in death by parents, Aaron and Eleanor Nice, his brother, DeLane Nice, nephew, Terry Nice.

Graveside Services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, September 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm.&nbsp;

Donald Dean Chartier was born December 25th, 1931, in Yuma County Colorado to Frank and Bertha Chartier and he passed away in Globe, Arizona while visiting family September 6th 2024. &nbsp;Donald served in the Army during the Korean conflict and since was a member of the American Legion. In 1956 he went to Voc-Tech school in Milford to be a watchmaker. He also drove a truck for many years with CF and had never been in an accident and was a member of the Brotherhood of Teamsters.

 Donald moved to North Platte Nebraska and started his own business called Windbroom in 1981, which was a parking lot cleaning, marking and stripping business. He was very proud of his business working until he was 89 and still wore his Windbroom hat all the time even after retiring. Donald was involved with 4-H and the Lincoln County Fair, he would donate funds for awards, ribbons, and belt buckles and never missed a fair. He also volunteered time and donated funds to the hospital in North Platte, you can find his name on one of the benches there. 

Donald loved driving trucks, cooking, baking, and canning. One of the things that Donald treasured was his Rodeo Belt Buckle that he won for bull riding when he was a young man. He also had over 75 clocks running in his house that he bought broken and fixed as a hobby, his beloved watch that he wore he would hand wind every day. 

He is survived by two sisters and one brother, Phyllis Lowe of Crete, NE., Shirley Trembly of Globe, Az., and Dallas Chartier of Benkelman NE. 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and eight other siblings, he will be laid to rest beside his mother Bertha in Wray, Colorado at his request.

 There will be a grave side service on September 25th, 2024 at Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado at 2pm.

Don Chartier (1931-2024)

Sister Shirley Ann Simmons, OSU, 99, died in the 82nd year of her religious life on June 9, 2024, at Nazareth Home-Clifton. A native of Heartwell, Nebraska, she graduated from St. Patrick High School, in North Platte, where she was taught by the Ursulines, then received a scholarship to attend Ursuline College in Louisville. She entered the Ursulines in 1942 at age 17.

Sister Shirley Ann began her 55-year ministry as a teacher in Louisville at St. Boniface parish school in 1944, then later taught at Our Lady of Lourdes parish school and served as principal of St. Elizabeth parish school. She also taught in Cumberland, Maryland and in Omaha and North Platte, Nebraska. She served as principal at three schools in Nebraska: St. Patrick Elementary in Sidney; Blessed Sacrament School in Omaha; and St. Luke School in Ogallala from 1975 until her retirement in 1999. She then served in parish ministry in St. Luke parish until she returned to Louisville in 2012. She volunteered at United Crescent Hill Ministries and in the Ursuline Sisters' archives for several years.

She earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from the former Ursuline College (now Bellarmine University) in Louisville, and a master of arts degree in education from Creighton University, Omaha.

Sister Shirley Ann is the daughter of the late Niles and Ella Porterfield Simmons. She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Joe Dodson; brother John "Jack" Simmons; and brother and sister-in-law Niles Simmons and Joan Cohen. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as her community of Ursuline Sisters and Associates.

Robert Thomas White (1954-2024)

Ronn Franklin Castle passed away 8/30/2024 at his residence in Lakewood, Colorado. Ronn was born in Chappell, Nebraska in 1939 to Wilmer and Maureen Castle. The Castle family lived two miles south of Chappell. They were a strong part of the Chappell farming community, raising wheat, corn, and livestock.

Ronn was a life-long member of the Chappell Methodist Church. His absence is dearly felt by many who loved him. Ronn was an excellent student with a deep love for athletics, starting with his position as high school quarterback and point guard for three years. His senior year, the basketball team was undefeated until the last game of the season. An all-around athlete, Ronn won the John Statler Athlete of The Year Award in 1958. He would spend spring and summer running track, pitching for the Junior Legion and “Town Team,” and playing both golf and tennis. With his quiet good nature, he was a leader on and off the field, and elected as the Homecoming King for Chappell High School his senior year. Ronn took his competitive athletic talents to Hastings College and then joined the Huskers at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. During the summer months from school, Ronn returned to Chappell to work with his father and Uncle “Bud” on their farms. He loved golfing and playing tennis with his Chappell and Denver buddies throughout his life.

Ronn graduated from Denver University with a degree in Business and Finance. He then joined the banking industry in Denver working for American National. After his banking career, he became an Investment and Financial Planning Advisor. He was with American Express prior to joining LPL Financial in 1997 where he remained an active financial planner. Ronn was well respected in the industry and enjoyed helping his clients achieve their financial goals.

He is survived by his two step daughters Teela Craik and Dana Green (David) of Greeley Co., grandchildren Ashleigh Titus (Cajun) Greeley Co., Brandi Sosa Denver Co., and Austin Green (Alyssa) Gardendale Tx., great grandchildren Thailar, Akira, Leo, Aydn, Lelia and Taylor, sister Connie Goddard and nephews Chris and Luke. He also remained close to his “Chappell Cousins,” Linda and Gary Smith, Jim Castle, Larry and Joyce Castle, and Glenda (Gary pre-deceased) Castle.

The Castle family lived two miles south of Chappell. They were a strong part of the Chappell farming community, raising wheat, corn, and livestock.Ronn was a life-long member of the Chappell Methodist Church. He would spend spring and summer running track, pitching for the Junior Legion and “Town Team,” and playing both golf and tennis. With his quiet good nature, he was a leader on and off the field, and elected as the Homecoming King for Chappell High School his senior year. Ronn took his competitive athletic talents to Hastings College and then joined the Huskers at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. During the summer months from school, Ronn returned to Chappell to work with his father and Uncle “Bud” on their farms. He loved golfing and playing tennis with his Chappell and Denver buddies throughout his life.Ronn graduated from Denver University with a degree in Business and Finance. He then joined the banking industry in Denver working for American National. After his banking career, he became an Investment and Financial Planning Advisor. He was with American Express prior to joining LPL Financial in 1997 where he remained an active financial planner. Ronn was well respected in the industry and enjoyed helping his clients achieve their financial goals.He is survived by his two step daughters Teela Craik and Dana Green (David) of Greeley Co., grandchildren Ashleigh Titus (Cajun) Greeley Co., Brandi Sosa Denver Co., and Austin Green (Alyssa) Gardendale Tx., great grandchildren Thailar, Akira, Leo, Aydn, Lelia and Taylor, sister Connie Goddard and nephews Chris and Luke. He also remained close to his “Chappell Cousins,” Linda and Gary Smith, Jim Castle, Larry and Joyce Castle, and Glenda (Gary pre-deceased) Castle.

Ronn Castle (1939-2024)

David Childers, age 81 of Ansley, died September 10, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

David George Childers was born October 1, 1942, in Valentine, Nebraska. He was the youngest of three children born to Amos Robert "Bob" and Mary Elizabeth "Maribeth" (McMurtrey) Childers. David's formative years were spent on the Erba and Muriel McMurtrey Ranch in Cherry County where his father was working (they were his aunt and uncle). Dave remembers the blizzard of 1948-49. School was canceled for about 3 weeks.

In 1953, Bob and Maribeth purchased a farm just east of Ansley, NE. All three children graduated from Ansley High School. During high school David raised sheep and worked on the farm and part-time at the Thompson Gas Station in Ansley doing mechanic work. It was at this station, in 1959, where a truck tire exploded, the blast tossed him to the ceiling and caused major damage to his right foot. He had surgery to pin the foot but has had problems with it, but it does a good job of predicting bad weather for him! David enlisted in the Marine Corps, leaving for boot camp on his birthday, 1960. However, the damage to his foot interfered with training and he was given a medical discharge in 1961. He returned to Ansley and worked on a road construction crew.

In 1961, David and Karen Lucille Jarusek were married. He was employed at a gas station in Broken Bow and later he worked on the Merritt Reservoir southwest of Valentine. In 1962, he, his wife Karen, and daughter Patricia, moved to the McMurtrey Ranch in Cherry County where he worked as a ranch hand. Son, Roger was born in Valentine, while they were on the ranch. The ranch is located 75 miles from Valentine.

The family moved back to Ansley in 1964. They rented a farm just 1 /2 mile south of Dave's parents and he went into partnership with his father. In 1965, Dave's parents moved to Kilgore, NE, to a ranch owned by his cousin, Homer Hoffman.

Dave and family moved to his parents’ home. They raised Angus cattle and had sheep and hogs. The crops consisted of alfalfa, corn, milo, and oats. The farm (1/2 mile south, where they had lived previously) came up for sale. The 160-acre place was bought, and the house remodeled, and Dave and Karen moved in.

David was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob, and sister Mary Frances “Mitzi”.&nbsp;

David is survived by wife Karen Childers of Ansley, daughter Patti (Laddie) Kruml of Sargent, and son Roger (Bonnie) Childers of Ansley, six grandchildren; Ashley Brink-Wurm, Cecilia Morlan, David Childers, Broc Childers, Joseph Kruml, and Kaylee Kruml, three great-grandchildren; CeAnn McIntosh, Harper Morlan, and Ruben Childers.&nbsp;

Ruby D. Rittenhouse, 96, of Lewellen passed away Monday morning, September 9, 2024 at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Lewellen Wesleyan Church with Pastor Cliff Transmeier officiating. Burial will follow in the Ash Creek Cemetery north of Lewellen.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Ruby Deane (Younger) Rittenhouse was born on September 23, 1927, in Elbert County, Colorado to Bruce E. and Cora D. Younger. She began life in a log home in the pine forest east of Monument, Colorado. When she was five, she became big sister to a set of twins, Norman and Norma. When she started school, her mother would walk her through the forest to a one-room school. Later she would attend elementary school in Monument and graduate from Palmer-Lewis High School, also in Monument.&nbsp;

After graduating high school, she worked in an office at Fort Carson where she met Army Tech Sgt. Dallas Rittenhouse. They were married in Colorado Springs on April 21, 1946, and moved to a farm/ranch near Lewellen, Nebraska where they spent their married life and raised a family. To this union four children were born: Dianne, Dennis, James and Judy.

As a farm wife, Ruby was instrumental in providing for the family by helping on the ranch, raising chickens to butcher and a large garden, canning and freezing produce. Eventually she conscripted four extra sets of hands to help in those processes. Who can forget plucking stinky wet feathers from countless chickens or spending hot summer days on hands and knees pulling weeds from garden rows or picking potato bugs from a hundred potato plants. She was a wonderful cook and made so many tasty meals from her home-grown products. Ruby was also an excellent seamstress, sewing draperies for her home and clothing for herself and her daughters including prom and wedding dresses.

In addition to working for a number of years at the Lewellen Grocery, Ruby was an active member of her community. She became a leader for a local 4-H club for many years, instructing 4-Hers learning to sew, cook, bake, and create proper table setting. She even mentored boys through a couple levels of entomology, the collection, study and identification of insects. When she was widowed, she joined a student mentoring program in the schools. Some of her mentees kept in touch with her for years. She joined the Giving Bee Quilting Group, making hundreds of quilts for children in foster care programs. In 2014 the group was recognized as the Outstanding Volunteer Group of the year by the First Lady of Nebraska, Sally Ganem.

&nbsp;Ruby is survived by children, Dianne (Rich) Kleist, Dennis (Sherrill, dec.) Rittenhouse, Jim Rittenhouse and Kae Carlson and Judy (Barney) Steger; Grandchildren, Lindsay (Travis) Anderson, Dennis (Bryan) Bond, Jennifer (Andrew) Moskowitz, Lisa Rittenhouse, Colton (Angela) Yauk, and Victor Yauk. Great grandchildren include Blake and Sutton Anderson, Madison, Gabriel and Joshua Moskowitz, Wyatt, Carter and Nevaeh Yauk, Adalynn Yauk, and Felicity and Cecily Rittenhouse; Sister, Norma Lavelett and many nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;Ruby was preceded in death by husband Dallas, parents Bruce and Cora Younger, daughter-in-law Sherrill Rittenhouse, brother Norman Younger, brother-in-law Ralph Lavelett and all of Dallas’s siblings and spouses.

&nbsp;Her children fondly remember her reading books to them in the evenings and the family sitting around the kitchen table playing rather intense games of Monopoly. One perhaps little-known fact is that Ruby was an absolute card shark at Pitch and Pinochle games and a master of Cribbage right up to the week she died. They will miss her very much.

Ruby Rittenhouse (1927-2024)

Marietta Marilyn Perlinger was born August 1, 1937, the 13th child and youngest born to John and Maggie (Kowalski) Mazankowski at the rural Litchfield family farm in Sherman County, Nebraska.

Marietta attended the Scott Center, District 63, School in Rural Sherman County starting at the age of 4. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1953 at the age of 15 and then, that fall, began teaching at the same Scott Center School she attended as a child. She had three students. After a year of teaching, she moved to Kearney, Nebraska, where she roomed with her sister Dorothy and was employed at various jobs.

Marietta met the love of her life, Francis Perlinger, in August of 1956, and they were married on January 26, 1957, at Saint Gabrielle's Catholic Church in Hazard, Nebraska. They made their home in rural Perkins County, Nebraska.

They were blessed with two adopted children, Michael Joseph in 1961 and Susan Marie in 1963. Marietta's life was busy raising her children, attending household chores, and aiding in the business of farming and church work. As the children grew, she was able to work alongside her lifelong friend, Phyllis Theiler, in Elsie, Nebraska, at the Wheatland Elementary School as a cook. They served many students delicious meals along with smiles and hugs. The two were a fixture behind the glass of the kitchen counter for many years and are fondly remembered by the students.

As the years went by, Marietta enjoyed spending time spoiling her five grandchildren with love, backrubs, and homemade goodies of all kinds. She also enjoyed challenging them to rowdy games of Pitch around her kitchen table. She later played Bridge with several card groups in Elsie, Grant, and Paxton, Nebraska.

Marietta moved to Grant in November 2006 and enjoyed small-town life, walking to the Post Office and visiting with friends and neighbors, including special neighbors DeeAnn and Bob Tatum.

In October of 2021, Marietta moved into Parkridge Assisted Living in Grant and continued enjoying visits with family and friends.

She moved to Bethseda Gardens Memory Care Center in Loveland, Colorado in June of 2023 to be close to her daughter, Susan. They shared many great times together in her final months here before Marietta received her welcome home to God's heavenly kingdom.

Marietta passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, September 8, 2024. She had reached the age of 87.

In addition to her parents, Marietta was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, in 2010, two infant brothers, two brothers, and eight sisters.

She is survived by one son Michael and wife Lori of rural Elsie, Nebraska and one daughter, Susan McLaughlin of Loveland, Colorado; five grandchildren, Mary Leiker and husband Ken, Matthew McLaughlin and wife Laura, Anne Ollanketto and husband A.J., Traci Dieckmann and husband Tyler and Lindsey Cunningham and husband Logan; 12 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Alan David Suhr, 53, of Ogden, Utah, passed away August 11, 2024. Born on March 26, 1971, to Dr. Lyle and Karen (Nordwall) Suhr, Alan lived a life marked by passion, service, and a deep commitment to others.

Alan exemplified the importance of thinking of others – a core value that defined his character. His journey led him to study Chinese Medicine in Santa Cruz, where he discovered his passion for healing through acupuncture, herbs, and holistic practices. His daily practices included Qigong, Kung Fu, meditation, and journaling – always striving to find peace and clear his mind of negativity.

Alan was a devoted father to his son, Caspian. He was thoughtful, deliberate, and always put Caspian first, ensuring that his son experienced the full wonder of childhood. Alan limited screen time and instead encouraged reading, outdoor adventures, and meaningful conversations. They shared countless beautiful moments — reading stories, playing games, sledding, skiing, swimming, camping, and exploring nature together. Alan promised Caspian that when it was time to go to heaven, he would watch over him and send his love.

Alan was an avid music lover, hiker, adventurer, and admirer of nature. His life was a beautiful example of love, curiosity, and kindness. A true free spirit, Alan traveled with the Rainbow Family, lived in his VW bus at times, and prioritized the welfare of others over material possessions. Alan lived fully, embracing every opportunity with an open heart and a dedication to serving others. He touched countless lives with his compassionate spirit, humor, and warmth.

He is survived by his son, Caspian Suhr; father, Lyle Suhr; sister, Kristin Suhr; nephew and niece, Trey and Karenna; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Alan’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew him, yet they find comfort in the cherished memories and enduring love they shared. Alan is remembered as a remarkable man who made the world a brighter, better place.

Larry Dean Jameson was born March 10, 1938, to Ralph and Edith (Ricks) Jameson on the Dismal River Ranch south of Thedford, NE. Larry was the second to youngest of eight siblings. Larry attended K-8th grade at a country school on the Dismal River. He then attended and graduated from Thomas County High School- class of 1955.&nbsp;

After attending a semester at Nebraska State Trade School in Milford studying Diesel Mechanics, Larry was needed back on the family ranch to help his dad.

On September 30th, 1961, Larry married the love of his life, Betty Ann Ewoldt at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Thedford, Nebraska. Larry and Betty established their home out on the Jameson Ranch on the banks of the Dismal River. They had two daughters, Donna Kay and Teresa Lynn.

After 44 years of married life on the Dismal, Larry &amp; Betty moved to BJ Ranch Co on the east side of Highway 83 south of Thedford where they have lived the past 19 years.

Larry has been a member of Bethel Assembly of God church for the past 68 years. During those years he has served on the Deacon Board for several terms with several different pastors. Larry also served as Assistant Sunday School Secretary for many years. Most importantly, Larry loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart, soul, and mind. He loved his wife and family deeply. Larry also enjoyed ranching, John Deere tractors, and old cars (especially Ford retractables).

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph &amp; Edith Jameson; his brother, Edgar Jameson, his sisters, Shirley Jameson, Betty Neal, Deloris Little, Irene Piester, and Elsie Carr; and his grandson, Zachary Dailey.

Larry is survived by his wife-Betty Ann Jameson of Thedford, his daughters- Donna Kay Higgins (Terry) of Thedford and Teresa Lynn Dailey of Papillion, NE, his grandsons- Jared Jameson Dailey (Jordan) of Mishawaka, IN, and Trevor Dailey of Papillion, NE, his younger sister- Thelma Haynes (Dallas) of Syracuse, NE, as well as, numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Lisa Kay Waterman, 55, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Medical Center of Aurora after a three-week battle with cancer.

Lisa was born to Mike and Kathy (Tex) Smithberg on August 23, 1969 in Omaha, Nebraska. After high school, Lisa married Scott Glinn, and together, they had a daughter, Kelli. Later, they divorced, and she married Chad Waterman, and they had two boys together, Seth and Laine.

Lisa always had a love for animals and that gift stayed with her throughout her lifetime. With a love for dogs, she went to work at Cloverleaf Dog Track in Loveland, Colorado, until it was closed. She then moved back to Ogallala and went to work at the Perkins County Veterinary Hospital in 2012 as a dog groomer. Throughout this job, she met many clients who became close friends. In 2023, she decided to start her own business, Bubbles &amp; Biscuits Mobile Pet Salon, which grew rapidly successful. She absolutely loved working with all the dogs. She also had found other passions and adventures in the last couple of years with her best friend, Cody Stickley. They would go antler shed hunting in the spring. They would also go out and find arrowheads, rocks, and other artifacts. She enjoyed polishing the rocks they would find and collect. She has always been an outdoor person, but in the last few years, it has been her place of peace. When she wasn't outside, you could find her inside watching and rooting for her favorite football team, the New Orleans Saints.

She is preceded in death by her father, Mike Smithberg; grandfather, Clarence Tex; grandparents, Mable and Bill Palmer, and Kenny Smithberg.

Lisa Kay Waterman (1969-2024)

&nbsp; On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Donald Wayne Fleecs peacefully passed away at his home in Sutherland.&nbsp; He was 91 years old.

Don, the son of Charles and Alice (Rourke) Fleecs, was born in Sutherland on February 11, 1933.&nbsp; He attended country school then Sutherland High School, graduating in 1950.&nbsp; Don farmed with his father for three years before being inducted into the U.S. Army.&nbsp; After his honorable discharge in 1955 Don returned home.&nbsp; He continued farming, earned his private pilot's license, and was owner/operator of Fleecs Brothers Trucking with his brother "PeeWee".

On December 29, 1956, Don married&nbsp; Peggy Ann Priel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland.&nbsp; They were blessed with six children and 62 years of marriage.&nbsp; The family lived south of town until 1965 when they built their forever home just west of the church.

He was active in the Sutherland community and the church.&nbsp; Don served on the school board for 15 years, Twin Valley Co-Op for 25 years, and Sutherland Rodeo Committee for 34 years.&nbsp; He also served on the Sutherland Co-Op, fire district, Chamber of Commerce, 4-H Council, Lincoln County Extension Board, American Legion and Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; More notably, Don was District 3 Lincoln County Commissioner from 1993-2002.

Don was a farmer, loving husband, and a good father and grandfather.&nbsp; He and Peggy enjoyed traveling; their most memorable trip was to Italy where they met Pope Francis.&nbsp; After Peggy passed away in 2019 Don anxiously awaited their reunion but in the mean time, he stuck to his routines, was independent and a bit stubborn. 

Don was known to many around town as "Tiger" or "Chief" and could often be seen picking up cans while riding his scooter downtown to mingle with the town folk and tell his stories. Then, as his health declined, he took up residence at The Maples at Centennial in North Platte in 2023 and looked forward to visiting his home on the weekends.&nbsp; Before returning to The Maples, Don would pick flowers from Peggy's garden to give to the girls when he got back.&nbsp; And a passion of Don's was dancing- he was always looking for a dance partner at The Maples.

One of the last pleasures Don had was taking a drive across the new Sutherland bridge the morning of his passing.&nbsp; He was one of a kind and always had a smile!

Along with his beloved Peggy, he was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Alice Fleecs; parents-in-law, P.E. and Isabell Priel; brother, Jerome "PeeWee" (Norma) Fleecs; brothers-in-law, Tom Hoatson and Bud (Betty) Priel; sister-in-law, Mary Bryant; son-in-law, Stewart Williams; and nephews, Robert Hoatson and Jerre Rome Fleecs.

Don is survived by his children, Diane McConnell of North Platte, Jackie Williams of Kansas City, MO, Pat (Ruth) Fleecs and Joe Fleecs of Sutherland, Liz (Chris) Skov of Hershey and Tina Fleecs of Kansas City, MO; his sister, Kathleen Hoatson of North Platte; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other family.

Donald Wayne Fleecs (1933-2024)

Faith Santo Hanzal, 97, of Stapleton, Nebraska, passed away on September 7, 2024 at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska. Beloved only daughter of Frank Lee Santo and Cecyle Leila (Hamm) Santo, Faith was born in her grandparent’s sod house west of Stapleton on October 4, 1926. &nbsp;

Riding on horseback to attend a country school in northwest Logan County, Faith completed the 8th grade there, and then for two years she attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis. She then moved to Stapleton, living with the Teichert family, and graduated from Stapleton High School in 1944. &nbsp;Continuing her education at Kearney State Teachers College in Nebraska, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Home Economics in 1950. Faith met her future husband, Joseph Hanzal, in a history class at Kearney. On July 8, 1950, Faith Lee and Joseph A. Hanzal were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church in Kearney, and from that union were born three daughters: &nbsp;Beverly Jeanette, Amy Elizabeth, and Carla Marie. Faith and Joe both taught school at Hayes Center, Nebraska, for two years and at Gresham, Nebraska for four years. &nbsp;

In 1956, Faith and Joe returned to the family ranch, Santo Land and Cattle Company, in northwest Logan County. The ranch began as a Kinkaid Homestead acquired by her father, and the young Hanzal family answered the calling of stewardship for the Sandhills, wildlife, water, and cattle. Returning to the ranch came naturally to Faith, and for 49 years she and Joe worked tirelessly to improve the ranch and cattle. &nbsp;As a girl, Faith had enthusiastically helped her father with feeding cattle, checking wells, and milking cows. She vividly recalled the 1934 drought, when the ranch received a massive herd of starving cattle from Kansas. Shipped by rail to Gandy, the cattle were driven north to the Sandhills, where the ranch’s abundant water saved the cattle, whose coats were thickly encrusted with dirt. The north side of Faith’s home was black with flies escaping the heat, and she and her mother shooed them with dishcloths, as they prepared the food for the hired help that built fences, moved the cattle, and tended pumpjack engines that ensured constant streams of water. The dusty winds that blew that year deposited new seeds, ultimately improving the ranch’s forage. &nbsp;

Faith’s childhood also included some remarkable adventures with her mother’s family, including attending the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair and viewing the original 1939 screening of The Wizard of Oz at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.

She then moved to Stapleton, living with the Teichert family, and graduated from Stapleton High School in 1944. &nbsp;Continuing her education at Kearney State Teachers College in Nebraska, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Home Economics in 1950. Faith met her future husband, Joseph Hanzal, in a history class at Kearney. On July 8, 1950, Faith Lee and Joseph A. Hanzal were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church in Kearney, and from that union were born three daughters: &nbsp;Beverly Jeanette, Amy Elizabeth, and Carla Marie. Faith and Joe both taught school at Hayes Center, Nebraska, for two years and at Gresham, Nebraska for four years. &nbsp;In 1956, Faith and Joe returned to the family ranch, Santo Land and Cattle Company, in northwest Logan County. The ranch began as a Kinkaid Homestead acquired by her father, and the young Hanzal family answered the calling of stewardship for the Sandhills, wildlife, water, and cattle. Returning to the ranch came naturally to Faith, and for 49 years she and Joe worked tirelessly to improve the ranch and cattle. &nbsp;As a girl, Faith had enthusiastically helped her father with feeding cattle, checking wells, and milking cows. She vividly recalled the 1934 drought, when the ranch received a massive herd of starving cattle from Kansas. Shipped by rail to Gandy, the cattle were driven north to the Sandhills, where the ranch’s abundant water saved the cattle, whose coats were thickly encrusted with dirt. The north side of Faith’s home was black with flies escaping the heat, and she and her mother shooed them with dishcloths, as they prepared the food for the hired help that built fences, moved the cattle, and tended pumpjack engines that ensured constant streams of water. The dusty winds that blew that year deposited new seeds, ultimately improving the ranch’s forage. &nbsp;Faith’s childhood also included some remarkable adventures with her mother’s family, including attending the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair and viewing the original 1939 screening of The Wizard of Oz at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.Known for her love of birds and chickens, Faith had a particular affinity for winged creatures. Migrating butterflies would see the beacon of Faith’s flower garden. She and Joe awoke one fall morning to see the cedar tree ablaze with thousands of monarchs. &nbsp;Faith’s heart radiated with joy and gratitude. &nbsp;She loved her family and remained eager to hear all the news about her grandchildren. She was devoted to her community and dedicated her life to service. &nbsp;She loved to visit, and could usually determine how she might be related or know someone who was connected to you in some way. &nbsp;Faith had a particular gift for gardening and feeding people abundant meals. She remained devoted to her community throughout her life and participated in the Presbyterian Church Lifeboat Mariners, Lone Valley Extension Club, Farm Bureau, Sunshine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nebraska Cattle Women, and VFW Women’s Auxiliary, and was a member of the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.Faith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant brother, Greyson Ray, and granddaughter Rachel Denise Johnson.She is survived by daughters, Beverly (Gregg) Johnson, Amy (Mostafa) Kashi, Carla (David) Hanzal; grandchildren, Holly (Bobby) Graves, Kari (Shawn) Gerber, Michael Johnson, Evan, Ryan and Alex Kashi, and Helena Hanzal Childress; and great-grandchildren, Ryder, River and Rikely Graves.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stapleton Splash Pad Fund, the Logan County 4H Council or the Crane Trust.Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 13, 2024 at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Stapleton, Nebraska. &nbsp;Rev Mark Rohrback will be officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. following lunch, at the McCain Cemetery, Stapleton, Nebraska. &nbsp;Visitation will be from noon-7:00 P.M. on Thursday with family receiving friends from 5-7 at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
